Only done 700 miles on my X2 EVO’s so not exactly a long-term comment – but haven’t replaced anything yet, pads or otherwise. Only had to shorten the hoses on initial fitting. Love the feel, and plenty powerful enough IMHO. :D

    +1 for Creamegg.

Better the devil you know sometimes I reckon. So it’s Nobby nics for me, come rain or shine. Used ’em with tubes, and for a while now tubeless. It’s not always about getting what you want as much as wanting what you’ve got. And at my age I tend to run out of nerve as often as I run out of grip if you see what I mean! 8O

Couldn’t agree more! Love my X2’s. Beautifully engineered, and such a great feel in use.

Blimey, that makes Haldon look like the journey from my lounge to the front door.. I’d probably be in that hole too.

Depends what you’re after, but if you’re looking for stainless capscrews try Anglia Stainless. Not sure whether they’re ‘cheaper’ than anywhere else – depends how long you want to spend on google etc. vs. going out riding. :-)

Full length with tongues works fine Onzadog, at both mechs anyway. Use the plastic tongued end, it’ll fit straight through the rear mech housing, then I just shortened the rubber boot slightly to get enough clearance/travel for the (XT Shadow) mech.

Paul, if you’re bottom-pull, Winstanleys sell a clamp on cable doofer so you could convert to top pull & run continuous if desired.

Full length SP41 with XTR tongued ends, seal the outer to the end cap with a little liquid electrical tape. And cable tie to frame (shudders at thought of trying to make a neat job of drilling out existing cable guides) :-) Just over 1000 miles now through all sorts of sh!t and still as smooth as a very smooth thing, with no intervention of any sort.

My SID’s were a bit ‘sticky’ till they’d had some use. I don’t expect they’ll need any lube – I’ve recently fitted some new ’07 model year forks (Fox not that it would matter), and they’re fine despite five years on a shelf! HTH

Never mind the stem, he’s making a super job of riding no-hands whilst carrying a car door and a set of railings.. top engineering that, Fred Dibnar must be turning in his grave!

[ On the Humvees the map sits behind my thigh and doesn’t impeed my pedal stroke especially if you cut the cardboard cover off the map.]

I tried that with my Singletracks – and wore through a goodly portion of a map. There’s no flap on the thigh pockets, so if you hit anything wet the map takes a beating. Odd design choice really, because I can’t see what else you’d want to store in those thigh pockets? Maps are a pain – the rear pocket on my Gridlock jacket is too small to take an OS map ‘flat’ – shame they couldn’t have made the pocket an inch or so wider.

At the expense of possibly sounding thick – what’s actually applying any preload to the bearings if the nearest clamped item is 8 – 10mm away?

Thanks Rob. I checked it before setting off, and most of the ride felt fine. I thought whilst I was out, that the rear had gone soft, but it was fine – I suppose the front was offering so much more grip it was making the bike feel weird. We only did a few more miles after that, and not at any wild pace. I only noticed how low the front was when I’d driven home and was cleaning up. I’ll keep an eye on it. Cheers each.

Cheers guys; I thought I’d have noticed it at the time (assuming it was all lost at once), but wasn’t aware of it. I’ve cleaned & carefully inspected the tyre, and couldn’t find any obvious puncture, and it’s now holding 43 psi (I tried it in a pan of water to look for leaks). It’s done plenty of miles with no issues, though admittedly I’ve been pushing it a bit more recently.

Extra pressure would help I guess, but the thing grips so much better with less. I wondered if anyone had tried adding a few extra turns of rim tape to stabilise the tyre?

Just finished fitting a set of Fox Talas 140-120-100 forks to my hardtail – bargain from Rose last week, less than £200 delivered. Hopefully riding will now include an element of ‘cake and eat it’ adjust-ability. 8)

Years ago, I was part of a lottery syndicate. There were 16 of us. We won a tenner, just ahead of the Grand National. Choosing not to split 10 quid 16 ways, it was dutifully placed as bets on four horses in the race.

One never ran, the second fell at the third fence, and they shot the other two.

    So no, not really.

Discovered push bikes again about 23 months ago, taking my (then) 20 month old son around the New Forest on the back of a BSO. Couldn’t believe how enjoyable it was, or understand how I’d managed to go so long without a bicycle. Subsequently gave up smoking shortly before my daughter arrived a few months later, and brought myself a hardtail. It’s kept me off the fags – if ‘er indoors asks why I’m fettling it, I just reply ‘well, I could be out smoking..’ – and I’m fitter now than I have been for years. I use it for work, for taking ‘is nibs round the forest and for racing. And I love it.

Had the same thing Friday, to the point where I phoned them to check what the deal was. I didn’t get to the bottom of why nothing showed up in ‘previous orders’, but was told that they’d received & processed the order for dispatch on Monday.

Edit: just had a look and it does appear now.

Better still than tyre lever – take a wooden clothes peg apart and use the two wooden wedges in opposition to gently push the pads in.

Can’t compare Tevas with Five-tens as never worn five-tens, but the depth of the sole pattern on the Tevas is shallow. I swapped the standard pins in my nano’s (7mm long) for 6mm long ones, and the soles now sit down on the pedals, instead of merely touching on the tips of the pins.

As above, can’t say how they compare with other shoes, but that pedal mod made a huge difference in feel/grip for me with the Tevas.

Having tennis elbow, not sure how I feel about the lever position ( I tend to angle mine down a fair bit to lessen the wrist/arm angle), but as stated previously, it won’t cost you anything to try it eh?

Altura attack for me. Pretty watertight if washed in techwash type stuff. Cordura arse panel stops ’em wearing through too quickly too.

Ok, so my mission for this year is definitely to learn to manual & bunnyhop & jump properly. Sadly at the moment I reckon I’m nearer the second video end of the spectrum, rather than the Wade Simmons end of things! The Shift clip’s Me First & The Gimme Gimme’s soundtrack was up there with the soundtrack of that Mabie video IMHO. :D

How many miles are people getting out of this kit? Suggesting stuff’s a year old or whatever doesn’t really quantify how much work it has done.

I traded up to an XT crankset(& BB) after the original octalink BB failed at 1100 miles. The XT bearings are still fine after 1600 miles, as are the chain rings – just wondering how much further I could expect them to last. Apologies if that’s a slight hijack.

Not sure what the context is, but it makes no sense to me – unless they’re suggesting a size range between 480 & 490 but then the notion of a tolerance (can’t read it clearly, but it looks like plus2 / minus0) would be nonsense. Couldn’t begin to tell you why they’ve used the division symbol though.

I’d ring them and ask them for clarification; as the drawing’s pants.

Just managed to open the FSA download – on page 8 lies my headset, which has indeed an OD of 44mm – so I could run a fork with a tapered steerer using an external lower bearing / regular upper one. Sorted. Cheers for that link IA.

I’ll have to wait til I get home to download 15meg – internet here’s worse than watching paint dry..

It’s semi-integrated I reckon, there’s a (pressed) steel flange just showing, so I’m hoping it’s 44mm ID. But there’s been such a fuss made about the ‘new’ 44xx standard, I’m surprised Cube hadn’t made more of a meal about it in their marketing bumpf.

I’ve contacted Cube & asked the question, but I’ll look at the FSA download later. Cheers again one & all.
