I was pondering this last night, as I’d like to do a couple of UK events and maybe a Super Enduro event in Italy.

    I’m riding a Spicy 516.
Mods: 50mm stem, 780 bars & dropper post.

    I’m considering:
    Single ring upfront (1 x 9) What size 32, 34, 36?
Sprung rear shock (Cane Creek DB)

Our Labradoodle pup house trained in 6 weeks

    1. Crate (not used for punishment but as a safe place for the dog)
    2. Routinely take the dog out for a pee/poo every 3-4 hours (day & night). Praise the dog every time it goes to the loo.
    3. Accidents indoors – don’t make a big deal of it, Don’t punish the dog. Calmly take the dog outside. If it wees outside then praise it.
    4. Stick with the crate until 18 months. At nightime the dog will let you know it’s needs to go the loo.
    5. Buy Gwen Bailey “The perfect puppy”

I prefer Pilates to Yoga. Just as good for flexibility and really good for addressing muscle imbalances.

Went last Summer with a 2.5 yr old & 4 yr old. As has been said, keep your fear to yourself and the kids will be cool.

No riding for me at the mo. Took advantage of the frosty morning to pick up frozen dog sh!t from the garden. Much easier when they’re frozen compared to after a few days of rain.

I hope your dog is feeling ok today.

My dog has eaten everything that could potentially kill it. Raisins, grapes, holly berries, acorns, chocolate. After one costly visit to an out of hours vet on a bank holiday the vet advised me to induce vomiting by giving the dog a couple of teaspoons of salt ASAP.

Dorset nimbys are the worst of their kind. A few years ago they managed to bring to an end one the UK’s oldest motocross tracks, Matchams. More recently they’ve opposed the development of in indoor skatepark, in a building that’s been empty for the last three years. And now this! I really feel sorry for local kids having to encounter so much opposition in the pursuit of radness.

Merry Christmas to the miserable sods!

    Yep 2003 Pau – Bayonne.

Check out http://etape.org.uk/ Ron’s training advice was invaluable to me.

Learn how to ride in big groups.
Stay away from the nutters on the downhills.

Enjoy the training and the big day.

    Good luck.

I bought a Whyte Cambridge two months ago.

It seems very little thought has gone into the design.

    EG.
Heal rub on the drive side chainstay (even with flat pedals) Did the designer consider 6’2″ with size 11 feet?

Stock tyres are paper thin and contribute to the harsh ride. If you opt to change the tyre for another 700 28c (in my case Schwalbe Marathon) and run mudguards (as you would on a commuter bike) this results in sod all clearance between tyre and mudguard and loads of rubbish getting caught in the tight space. The frame gives very little room to alter the mudguard fitting.

    Conclusion: An irritating ride.

Stefan Everts. So smooth! This pass on Bubba at the 2006 MXDN still gives me goosebumps. Such a privilege to have been there.

Sharks are all over the place out there but they rarely decide to see how windsurfers taste.

Completely agree. However logic goes out the window when such a big fish is so near to you.

Maui locals far more scary than sharks.

Drove a car into oak tree at 80 mph. Luckily the tree was leaning in the direction of travel. The tree acted as a ramp and flipped the car onto it’s roof. Then slid down the road, upside down into oncoming traffic. Luckily me a my friends all walked away.

Windsurfing at Sprecklesville, Maui early in the morning. Could hear loads of shouting from the beach, people shouting “shark!” Looked behind me to see a 3m tiger shark. Sailed on a little further pulled the gybe of my life with the shark in the middle of the turning circle (albeit quite a large circle ;-) ) then sailed back right up onto the beach. 2 days later snapped my mast in the same place I’d seen the shark. Had a very scary paddle back.

Returning from Sunday road ride. Got hit directly behind by a Texaco petrol tanker. Flew left and upwards and landed on the roof of a parked car. Feel off the roof, down into the gap between the car and moving lorry. The bike was ripped from my feet and somehow I didn’t end up under the lorry with my bike. I ended up in the gap between the lorry’s wheel and the parked car. I got up and walked away, sure I was dead. Thinking I’m travelling into the next realm or something. Then a bystander shouted, “He’s alive!” at the point a massive rush of adrenalin hit me, the lorry driver turns up saying “Where the **** did you come from?” I then set about punching the lorry driver several times in the face. The police and ambulance turn up and look at me in disbelief that I walked away from getting run over by a petrol tanker.

Reformer Pilates. Excellent for firing up muscles that don’t used, resulting in better muscular balance all round. Having an excellent teacher and a small class of 3 really helps.

The whyte isn’t a size issue, it’s just horrible to ride, harsh as %€#¥. Sod all mudguard clearance, annoying heal rub (designers didn’t take into account size11 feet when designing the xl frame), soggy brakes and stock tyres made of paper. All things that would take a few rides and time with bike to realise.

Only ever bought one duff bike and that was my most recent one, a Whyte Cambridge. IMO an awful bike. Regretting not taking test ride first.

@Vern0n. Thanks for the positive reply, it’s good to read something encouraging. Pre-op and post op physio will be my focus. I feel the real challenge will be the need for patience and taking a slow approach.

Did you have any arthritis on the femoral head?

I’m going private, with a surgeon who is considered to be very good. I think a lot depends on what he sees once he’s in there.

Thank you all for the replies.

In my experience, 4 GPs, 3 chiropractors, 2 osteopaths , 3 physios were all wrong because they were all taking educated guesses. 3.5 years later one rheumatologist and one orthpaedic surgeon were right, because they had an MRI scanner to establish the facts.

GPs jack of all master of none, all too willing to just write a prescription and leave it at that. Slaves to the pharmaceutical industry.

Personally I’m not a fan of pain killers. Pain is your body telling you that something is wrong. Masking pain will not take the underlying problem away.

If you were to have a issue with the structure of the hip, masking the pain could hide arthritis which could result in hip replacement further down the road.

Take it from me don’t mess around with people guessing. Get a referral to an orthopaedic consultant and have an MRI.

I can certainly sympathise with long term pain and the frustration of not finding the true cause.

Get an MRI, X-ray, blood tests and establish the facts. Then treat accordingly.

I’ve had similar symptoms plus SIJ pain. The hip flexor/ psoas tightness & pain was caused by them over compensating for buggered hip. All caused by a labral tear in the hip cartilage, plus ankylosing spondylitis.

Having a hip arthroscopy Dec 14th (was originally Nov 30th but I wanted more time for pre-hab)

Get that MRI sorted and good luck!
