As has been said, you shouldn’t have made a fuss of the dog whilst to fireworks were going off. Best to carry as normal. Personally I’d give the dog another chance.

A quick search found his useful guide, he advice looks good http://www.dogsandfireworks.com/downloads/dogs_and_fireworks.pdf

Ended up on a mission to a 24hr petrol station (glowing like a space ship) and Ray Reardon was in there paying for petrol. He was so cool, especially considering the 4 acid casulaties who were totally freaked out at meeting a snooker legend in the middle nowhere.

John Kelly and Derrick May. Reminds me of the time me and few friends took acid. Synced up our Walkmans all playing the same JK & DM tape and went on a bit of a mad one for the night. Happy days!

chipsandgravy – why is it so useful to you/what do you use it for?

    I mainly use Evernote for:

Note taking – be it on phone, ipad, or laptop
    Project planning – to do’s
Grabbing and storing files, pdf web clips

Peace of mind that the all this stuff is in one place and nicely syncing across devices

    Evernote here. Not used Springpad.

Evernote gets a 10/10. Sounds sad, but I couldn’t imagine my digital/working life without it.

The UCI is one embarrassment after another. Cycling, of any kind, does not need the UCI. Each sport within cycling should breakaway and do their own thing. All run by people whose sole agenda is the good of the sport.

Had a pair on my Zesty. Freehub issues from the beginning. Had two new freehubs under warranty. The second one seems to be of a much higher quality. Despite the fix, I don’t have much confidence in the build quality. Mavic Crossmax STs from now on.

I don’t know what the structure is now. But back in the late 90’s I did, Dayskipper (theory & practical) followed by Yatchmaster (theory & practical)

Neither were too hard. Like anything in life, you put the time and effort in, you’ll be fine.

Loads of fun sailing a wayfarer rudderless & man overboard drills in the solent.

    Tubeless all the way here.

Fitting a tubeless tyre onto a UST rim is a doddle, takes no more than 5 mins (even with logos and valves aligned)

The hills looking down on Arrecife airport are a great place to stop and some plane watching. The planes step down the contours of the mountains on their approach and the wind makes landings a bit lively with quite a few landings aborted.

A couple of years ago I spent a week in October in Matagorda. Took my road bike. Most days 30-40 mile loops, with a couple of 80 mile rides. Managed to see almost all of the island by the end of the week.

Leaving Matagorda everything was uphill from there. Great fast downhills on the way back.
    Some pretty good climbs
Riding through the lava fields of Timanfaya National Park was quite surreal, especially when it was overcast and rainy.
    Wind can be an issue.
Plenty of other roadies are out there.

Take some spare tyres and tubes. Conti GP4000’s were over €60 in some shops.

An ideal cycling break to get you ready for winter.

    Have fun.

I bought a canyon nerve XC 18 months ago. When the bike arrived there were a few issues nothing major. I got them sorted and emailed canyon uk, who responded immediately and offered to pay the bike shop bill.

To be honest it doesn’t make sense that canyon uk are not responding.

I wonder if a fed up local bike shop would ever consider taking to a forum in an attempt to discredit canyon. Just a thought ;-)

MDMA & 90 mins in an MRI scanner. No thanks. Saying that being in an MRI is a bit like being at a gabba techno night.

I’ve come to my own conclusion on Armstrong. He’s a scum bag. Not so much for cheating as a cyclist (we all know pro cycling is a joke). More for cheating on the trust and faith cancer patients and their families have placed in him. He’s really let these people down.

Add to that, If I was Trek, Giro, Nike etc I’d be distancing myself from LA pretty sharpish. My Livestrong trainers are in the bin.

I’m curious to see what happens to Armstrong and his attempts to not open up and tell the truth. It would eat away at most people. He seems like such an accomplished liar, maybe he’ll take it to his grave.

Moyles and his team haven’t caused too much annoyance over the years. Nowhere near as annoying as the likes of Jo Whiley, Vernon Kay and Westwood.

To replace Moyles Radio 1 have gone for quite possibly the most irritating streak of floppy haired piss in the world, Nick Grimshaw. Hate is a strong word and one I won’t use unless I mean it. But I HATE Nick Grimshaw. King of the c*%ts.

I might down pop down the bookies to bet on how short Grimshaw’s radio 1 career will be.

Can’t help but think that pro cycling is a farce. It will be real shame if this “witch hunt” starts and ends with Armstrong. The “authorities” should go after every cheat and strip them of their titles.

Caught slap cheek syndrome off my kids back in April (prior to this hip issues have been present for the last three years, dramatically reducing time on the bike and exercise in general) It felt like someone had unplugged me, no energy whatsoever. This lasted for three months. Doctor diagnosed PVF and told me to got sit on a beach for 6 weeks. Yeah, fat chance! I’ve got a business to run.Right in the lowpoint of the fatigue I found it hard to cope with the pressure of running a business and the need to recover ASAP. This pressure wasn’t helping one bit. Something had to give, the wheels well n truly came of the cart. Never in my life had I felt so vulnerable. When sick in the past I’ve always chosen to MTFU. But this time MTFU was not going to work.

I went to cognitive behaviour therapy and took up meditation. Both allowed me to accept being unwell and immediately released a great deal of the pressure. Accepting PVF was a massive turning point. I’d learnt to ‘bend like the willow’ instead of standing firm like a stubborn old oak.

Now I’m definitely on the mend, taking one day a time to rebuild physically. All of which is bolstered by the continuing focus on developing mindfulness.

Looking back PVF was one of the most positive experiences in my life.

lgb I’m far from an expert but it seems your issues are far more than just cycling related. Maybe explore methods that will help you chill out in general. You never know this might trickle down to your riding.

Not something I would do to a dog of my own at 2 years old. The dog isn’t fully developed and your at risk of damaging it’s joints.

Also probably too far and too much (today’s heat) for a dog that isn’t used to that much exercise, regardless of age.
