1-1/8 .you want 44mm internal top and bottom cup.
Tapered , 44mm external bottom, internal top cup.
1.5, 44mm external top and bottom.

Nukeproof warhead comes in all of the above.

Also the headtube is quite short so external cups don’t look out of place.

    Bought one last night,

Recommend 130-140 forks with external bottom cup (tapered or 1.5)
    140-150 with internal cup (1-1/8).

So plenty of fork options and will wait for a bargain fork to come up before building as my current hardtail has 120.

Before becoming a cyclist I would have a bit of anti cyclist banter at work if it came up, but it would be exactly that. A bit of banter. Much in the same way a might say something about the French for instance.

But I held no genuine ill will towards cyclists and always gave them plenty of consideration on the roads and would be no more likely to deliberately endanger a cyclist on the road than I would a French man.

Drivers who behave like angry Aholes on the road are in fact just angry Aholes in general.

I think there should be more public advertising educating people about cycling road safety.

I would be straight down the hospital with any suspected spinal injury.

I crashed a motorbike and fractured my spine resulting in 10 days flat on my back in hospital then released with a brace for a month.

Also have a friend who’s a sparks, whilst once on site walked into a room where some clown had decided to cover a large hole in the floor with a sheet of plasterboard for whatever reason.
Friend fell through and landed on his arse on the floor below resulting in a crushed disk and now has the two vertebrae fused togeather.

I really like the look of that Ancillotti.

But, I do own two halfords bikes, (and a five, walks away slowly casually whistling with hands behind back.)

I have a conti travel contact like that from new.
The tyre also has a very slight bulge In the sidewall that would almost be invisible to naked eye if it was not directly behind large writing making the lettering distort just enough to be visible .

Tyre used to be in the front but watching it wobble from side to side annoyed me so stuck it on the back and forget about it.

My xt brakes are excellent, I just have to learn to stop using them inappropriately.
What I need is ABS as I keep forgetting trying to change direction while still on the front brake normally ends with me on the floor trying to stop every cubic mm of breath from leaving my body, while thinking the whole time if I do not manage to take a breath soon I will surely die.

But the brakes them selfs are great.
    (ABS pleases, someone)

A few times I have had to sleep in a car I have so in a supermarket carpark where there were plenty of security cameras.
Some open 24hr but even the ones that were closed the shops were well lit with people to be seen doing stuff inside.

No one ever came out and asked me to move on, but then I would only be there a night or two.

I am defiantly not down with the kids and would not want to be.
But at 39 I am slightly over weight with rapidly failing knees and elbows.

Only two years ago I was the fittest, strongest I had ever been running 7 miles every other day, lifting weights and eating healthily, then the joints started to give me gyp.

And I have only recently realised I am actually knocking on a bit, and I am probably closer to the end of my life than the beginning.

Doesn’t help that many of the people who I knew who where in their prime when I was a youth are starting to die off.

Never, it detracts from the experience I find.
And I would like to be able to listen out for dogs, walkers and other cyclists.

When on the road I have talk radio on very low, so can still hear any approaching traffic and can only really hear the radio when all around is quiet.

I think its 1000mm right front 1700mm left rear.

There is a guide somewhere on the net on how to cut them down with out bleeding.
This involves removing pads and sandwiching some card between extended pistons , so once cut you push out any air in the system by pushing pistons back flush.

Very simple to do and worked a treat for me .

Most important part was having a good cutter to cut the hoses.

Last year when considering a second hand high end bike I saw some corkers, but if too far for me to collect they reluctantly got crossed off my list.

One mans mint is another mans shabby,
And some sellers where complete chancers who would con their own grandmothers.

Swop all the parts off current bike over to new then rebuild old with all the crap they had previously swapped out through wear. No point having high end components if they are knackered.

I would also prefer this option as a seller as I would know the buyer was happy.
And not claiming the money back saying the bike was not as advertised, which some people would pull if suffering from buyers remorse.

To send uninsured would be foolish I would have thought.

To claim against damage caused (if insured) would be down to whoever arranged transportation as they have the contract with courier.

What if it arrives damaged and the buyer blames this on poor packaging on your behalf , then there could be arguments.

Personally I the seller would send and only with the parcel insured for its full value.

And when you package it up ask yourself would you be confident it would survive being thrown out of a first floor window onto a concrete patio.

If the answer is no , repackage .

I have learnt my lesson the hard way.

Unless the rental can be written off in some tax scam I find it ridicules also.

It strikes me if you can afford to pay that amount in hire charges, you can afford to buy a decent bike on HP, and if it make you feel better after two years you can give it to me and get a NEW one also on HP.

And to use something that you had already decided was not what you wanted and not in full working order on receipt, I think is crazy.

My ht is currently shod in mud tyres (beavers 2.0).
Anyone know how these tyres performs on the fast hardpack bermy sections.

Usualy ride swinley on higher volume minion/high rollers which grip very well and just a bit worried that if i leave the beavers on i will lose traction and die.

Anyone ridden the hardpack on mud tyres .

    Thanks for the replies.
I have read that some 7 speeds use 9 speed hubs plus 4 mm spacers , so if this is the case I could be in luck
Unable to check till tomorrow .

    Ransos
My 7 speed set up works great sadly, absolutely no problems functionally wise.

But I wanted to convert my 9 speed alivio groupset hardtail (again faultless in operation) to 10 speed xt.
And I am more reluctant to do so as I have amassed lots of nine speed spares, multiple new cassettes, chains, cranks and rings even got a spare set new 9 speed shifters an mechs.

So I could I run my hardtail in its current spec for many years to come without spending a penny.
So therefore cannot justify going ten speed unless I can use all my nine speed stuff elsewhere.

What’s worse my hardtail works perfectly,so all I will gain by changing to xt 10 so is some weight loss and a little kudos (sad I know).

    I get that a lot.
I will look forward all week to a day off so as I can get out on my bike.
But when the day arrives I am knackered and find the thought of a day of rest very appealing and really don’t fancy a ride .

I know if I don’t it will probably be another week before the opportunity will come again so think I wiill go, and turn around if I genuinely feel not up to it.
But once on the bike I am very happy and end up gone for hours, Infact I find that by the time I am half way through getting all my kit togeather and clobber on my attitude has changed and I am raring to go.

Am I wrong , but the picture above , is the cycle lane just to the left of a left turn only car lane. So I take it the car lane will only get the green light when the cycle lane is stopped red.

I always thought kids were allowed, but you’re right.

    chip

Kids are allowed to ride on the pavement as their bikes are classed as toys.
And I would not let them ride on the road cycle lane or not unless I was confident in their understanding of the dangers involved and law.

    chip
    Free Member

I think all cycle lanes should be removed.
The roads are a carriageway and my bike is a carriage ,
I do not want to have a small part of the road set aside for me .

Most of the cycle lanes I have encountered are poorly thought out at best and outright dangerous at worse.
And when I choose to not use a cycle lane as I believe it is dangerous, I occasionally get shouted at but more commonly get passed very closely as I can only guess the driver has put his passing me so closely down to me not being in the cycle lane in the first place.
Not realising that the reason I have chosen not to use said cycle lane is it would be better labeled Door zone than cycle lane .

The money would be better spent on advertising that educated the non cycling public that cyclist choose to stay out of the gutter as this is where drainage grates and general debris accumulates and to pass with plenty of room as they could have to avoid hazards like pot hole.
And the reason you sometimes ride in the centre of the road when crossing a single lane bridge or country lane is not because you are an arrogant arse but because it would not be safe to overtake so there is no need to stay to the left aswell as protecting yourself from some one trying to push through.

They should also point out that the rules of the road should be followed by all who use them irrespective of your chosen vehicle and that a cyclist is not a pedestrian on a bike.
The campaign should high volume and consistent like the drink drive campaign at Christmas or the green cross code when I was a kid.

I order stuff to be picked up from my local store quite often as
Their Prices due to regular promotions can be very competitive.

And by ordering for collection rather than to be delivered to my house I have half a chance of smuggling parts in under the radar.

Last Xmas I nearly bought a spanking el gaupo frame for £599 as I really liked the look of them .
But instead bought a very nice 3 year old five frame for a little under £500 as I thought a bike that ugly would have to be blinking brilliant.

Looks the same as the alvio crank that came on my hardtail.
Never had any problems with it, shifts beautifully .

Recently swapped the big ring for a bash (£22 halfords),and the middle ring for a 36t deore ring (£10 CRC).
    Jobs a good’un.

Works just as well as my xt, just probably heavier.
