Moving my gaze from the sheer beauty of Simonjjs transition to saccades bike below was a real shock to the system (no offence intended saccades).
That could only be replicated by having testicles gently heated with a hair dryer for ten minutes before then being kicked into a wheelie bin filled with ice water.

    I think I actually flinched. :D

    sorry saccades.

I think (does not mean I am right) people use balloon tyres ( your words ) because they work better at lower pressures, which is desired to soak up the bumps and thumps, a first line of defence for you suspension.

Which you would still benefit from with bigger wheels.

I understand that a 26″ bike with 650b wheels will not be the same as a 650b bike as the geometry has been adapted to allow for the bigger wheels.

Which some people must not as they either wish to fit bigger wheels to there current bike to join the 650b train.
Or tell me that my concerns are unfounded as I could simply in future fit a 27.5 fork to my bike if 26″ forks became unavailable.

I suggest these people do not understand geometry.

Also one of my bikes has a higher bb and I understand that I genuinely feel more aloft and less at one with my bike than I do on my other bikes .
I am not saying this has anything to do with wheelsize apart from would be the case if I just fitted bigger wheels to my current frames .

I, a size 10 shoe, because I choose to wear chunky boots and trainers now know what it is to be a size 12 and feel the pavement come alive as my huge clown boots bridge the uneven terrain below. :D

I could probably fit bigger wheels on the 26 ragly frame I recently bought but would not want to as the bottom bracket would be too high for me. That is a part of geometry that I really do notice a change in when riding. Just a small increase in what I am used to and I feel really high up and less balanced.

    Why doesn’t that make sense?
    POSTED 5 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

Because surely the 650b wheels also can (and will)be fitted with fat tyres or are they limited to skinnys.
if the latter was true it would make the change truly pointless if the case .

The only way I could see myself buying a whole brand new bike is if mine was stolen.
The 1 1/8 steerer 26″ fork choice has greatly shrunk this year alone so I believe next year it will be even less.
I think in 3 years max it will be hard to get any 26 ” non entry level fork full stop.

Also halfords are now selling an entry level 650b carrera titan hardtail for £300.
If this proves to be a great seller I can see them really pushing the 650b option and putting the final nail in the coffin .

The correct, mature response here is:
    ‘Your MUM is very distracting’

    It’s not the 1980s don’t you know.
The modern default playground based response would be,
    ‘Your Gay’.

I live in a village where the few routes in and out are all unlit country lanes.
And there are always plenty of cyclist about especially at weekends and occasionally when in the car at night there will be one riding towards you with two banks of multiple led lights set to retina scorch.

So I return the favour and stick my lights on high beam the same as if they were an inconsiderate motorist.

HG50 on my hardtail, complete bargain at CRCs prices, used in the worst weather and conditions for a year now.
Still shifts well and no sign of rust, the chain is at the point where I should replace it, but will be going 10 speed in the spring so providing it does not start to skip or shift badly I will leave it on till then.

It’s all about grip diameter these days.

Missus always says grip diameter is far more important than effective top tube length. :D

Sir here we have a brand new item, to you £500,
And here we have a second hand item that was returned to us broken that we repaired using canabolised parts from other second hand items also returned broken, also £500, which would you prefer.

I know where my money would go.

Refurbed are other units that people have sent in as faulty that they have fixed prior to your return.
If the item had been used for a period of time then outer casing would be replaced to appear as new.

Either way not new. If you had say three months use out of yours before returning I would say accept the refurb as you would be getting like for like with the bonus of looking brand new.
But not if the fault was apparent straight out of the box, you should get a Spanker or a refund .

So is dangerous driving not a crime or leaving the scene of an accident.
If so people should be prosecuted whether they cause injury or not.

The police force, armed forces and national health services are fast becoming token gestures.

What winds me up, if you watch these police camera shows, the police catch criminals often known repeat offenders.
Then at the end it will then often state so and so was released with out charge or given a meaningless sentence.

No wonder these people have no respect for the police/law/justice system if they can do what they want and get away with it even if they get caught.

If someone knocks someone off a bike and drives off they should end up in court end of and if the driver is a professional driver they should be convicted of something that stops them ever being a professional driver again.

It’s not the knocking off of as we do occasionally have accidents it’s the driving away that should end their career.

What the thieving bastards valuable time.

I thought maybe that if enough people complained some one may see sense ( highly unlikely I know)
But if no one complains nothing will change.

I thought a keyboard warrior was someone who caused personal offence.

Well I emailed Royal Mail before Xmas to ask if they could explain their actions and received this today.

    reference: #######

    Dear ######

    Thank you for your email.

I can confirm this issue has been fully investigated and a response was provided to the complainant outlining our position. You will appreciate however that as a third party I cannot go into detail with you regarding another customer and their enquiry.

    Kind regards

So did the buyer accept your withdrawal of acceptance of his offer and bid thereafter.
Or is he still expecting to pay the £60.

Is it your understanding that he will be paying £67 or have you offered to sell for the previously agreed figure out of good will as he has won the bid anyway.

Either way If I did not hear from him I would look into the correct procedure on when and how to go about offering to the second highest bidder.

    chip
    Free Member

So was the x amount more or less than the winning bid.

If less he had a result if he pays and you have if he does not pay as you can give the second highest bidder the opportunity to buy at what would be I am guessing also above your agreed fee.

If the winning bid was less than the agreed price he may be peed off that he could have won it cheeper just by bidding and decided not to buy, in which case you would be on shakey ground I should imagine as eBay tell you not to accept offers outside of the auction.

And if the auction was deliberately manipulated by false bidding by seller or friends of to put up the price , that’s fraud I think iremember someone going to prison for deliberately bidding on their own auction of a minibus to put up the price.

I thought 3 days was the accepted time frame.
Then send them a message then give them another 3, then if still nothing contact eBay.

As said, some people do not use computer everyday and could have forgotten bidding or end of auction time.

I once bid on something ending soon before going out to dinner . Twenty minutes after auction ended I started getting angry messages demanding I make payment.

It would save some confusion if the offers ended at midnight instead of the afternoon, but i personally always find crc spot on.

When I recently bought a new frame I forgot to apply the voucher code,
It was late at night so rang them the next day and told them so.
Was told I could not be refunded then £10 as the order had already gone to the warehouse but would email me a code for £10 credit, which I immediately used to buy a spare mech hanger for said frame.

I am waiting on some wheels I won on eBay just before Xmas and a freewheel I ordered from another bike store also before Xmas, but due to the festive season I am not so surprised I am still waiting.
Yet I ordered a new xt triple crankset from crc on Saturday and that arrived yesterday.

As said above I would have no more than 10mm of spacers above the stem.
    Enjoy .

    chip

Bar height is a preference and stem height depends on bars.

On my five I have a 10mm spacer above and below my stem.
The stem is a 75mm +6 degree stem which is turned upside down so my bar height is actually 2mm lower than it would be with stem the right way up and slammed with no spacers.

This way I get to keep an extra 20mm of steerer incase I swop bikes or sell it.
    Here’s a handy stem calculator.

In a perfect world my hardtail would be my only bike.
I would happily commute on it, but due to thieving gits I am not happy about leaving it locked up while I go off .
So making my commuter hack necessary.
And on any thing more technical than my local woods start to give my back aggravation due to an old injury, necessitating my FS.

I could cut the three down to two by using my FS for local woods as well as bike parks.
But again, I live in an area not uncommonly frequented by individuals of a light fingered nature.
So would not want to ride it out of my front door to and then around local woods and back through fear of planting the seed in there head or heads to try and liberate my bike either by force or through stealth In order to facilitate the acquisition of skunk, meow meow or what ever else the kids are taking these days.

Can’t say I have dreamt about bikes.
Last night I dreamt an x Girlfriends dad ( deceased for some years ) hid my keys which I eventually found buried deep under a newly planted tree.

Have no idea what that means.

Long story short, my van along with most of my tools was stolen.

Two weeks later get a call from port of Dover police two people were arrested after trying to drive my van on a ferry with false plates.
They were caught because some one noticed the plates did not match reg number on tax disc and did a check on that number which revealed it to be my van.

Picked the van up from Dover , some of my tools were still on board but a lot were missing.
I asked the officer in charge what will happen to the people caught driving it to be told they were released without charge.

When I asked why I was told that the case belonged to the police force where the van was stolen (met) and that he had rang them told them the situation and that he had two prisoners for them to come and collect.\
He was told it was too far and to just let them go.

The officer was just as pissed off as I was about it and said if it had been the other way round he would have sent someone to collect them.

I do spend more time thinking about my bike than I do riding it, and the time spent on this forum to time spent in the saddle ratio is embarrassing.

I ordered stuff recently , heard nothing for a week then was refunded .

Reminds me of a story a friend told of when he was the manager of a white goods shop that was part of a small chain.

A woman came in an wanted to buy a washing machine that was from a brand the shop did not stock.
He told the woman that he was pretty sure he could not get the washing machine she wanted but would call the owner and ask.

He rang only to be told that he was right in as much as they would not be able to supply that machine but to take her money anyway and tell her to come back in two weeks .

And when he asked why, if he would only have to refund the woman in two weeks anyway he was told that the money would be better off in his ( owners )bank account for two weeks than hers.

Well I am sure the next person to post a shock and then have it stolen by the pirates at Royal Mail who then posts the fact on here will not be met with the same levels of sympathy from the stw hordes as PG.

And instead find themselves at the center of a more typical flamefest
And rightly so if you post via Royal Mail knowing your stuff may be pilfered by captain pat only then to find out it has been , well then you can not complain.

Cutting the steerer was easy with a fairly cheap stanly adjustable pipe cutter.
Just took my time adding a little pressure at a time.

What I did do was drop the forks in a black bag and taped it closed around the bottom of the steerer so just the steerer was exposed and poked a little cloth down blocking the steerer just past where I would cut.
As I was paranoid swarf from the cutting or filings from cleaning up the edge would find there way on to one of the new lightly oiled stanchions only to cause trouble later.

I am sure most people would have just cut it and given them a wipe down.

Bought one of the marley frames a little while back and have most of the parts I would need to build it 90 % new already put by for a previously planned upgrade of my current hardtail.
But I dont need or want a new bike right now as I am happy with what I have got, so it is safely boxed and filed until that situation changes, if it changes.

So could be built next year, 10 years or never.

My last build took 6 months to source all the parts and then built over a few evenings as at the time I had no knowledge or understanding of the process.
So googled the job in hand whether installing the chainset or fitting a deraileur, then did so once I understood what had to be done.

Some sites instruction was better explained than others but by far parks online guide was the best .
Step by step instruction that was easily grasped.
