One every now and again is bad enough. But when you have a couple In quick succession makes you wonder if golf may be a better option.

Last year I had a hundred where I got up with a giggle to myself. Then two real bone crunchers, second not long after recovering from the first.

Did not make me question my skill as I have always known I am shite.
But instead made me question my impact resistance.

So this year I hope to drop some timber and add a bit more muscle in hope that will help me bounce better.
As I don’t think increasing my skill set will stop me crashing, just make me crash while attempting harder stuff.

To be fair to the as yet unnamed shop,
Are you mental, I am sat here with my recently sharpened and oiled pitchfork in one hand and a slice of marmite on toast in the other.

Would be interested to here any replies you receive.

I had the same crank on my hardtail.
Removed once to replace bb and twice more to remove bb for a clean and re grease.
Never had any problems removing the arms.

If it is knackered I would upgrade to a deore hollowtec or slx if your budget allows.
And get your bike shop to do it as your bb shell may need facing .

The new parachute looks excellent, looks like an xc ff’er you could pedal in with chin protection that actually looks fit for purpose. I have a cratoni c maniac that I bought for peanuts, where the chin guards looks to provide not much more than token protection .

And seriously, have you seen the way the sort of people who may mock you dress, they are either under nourished justin bieber hairstyled sisters jean wearing or baggy jeans with a baseball cap at a jaunty angle.

I read recently somewhere that someone worked for 6 years at a bike park where first aid was constantly required either by the walking wounded or other less fortunate souls who were stretchered out to an awaiting ambulance.
And of these people suprisingly few were the proverbial storm trooper types.

I recently bought two ff lids.
A 661 comp shifted and an ixs phobus.

The phobus was more expensive had more (removable) padding and felt like it would hold up better in a serious crash.
But just felt too heavy, too bulky and just not very nice to wear on the off chance.

The comp shifted was a different kettle of fish, it looked and felt like a lessor helmet protection wise, more of a ff lite helmet.
It felt much more comfortable, lighter, less cumbersome and a lot cooler.

If I was a big balled freerider I would definitely go for the phobus as it was very similar to my old mx helmet I had for my kmx.
But I am not, I am an over cautious middle aged numpty who crashes a lot, mainly because I let my speed get away from my competence and then my bike and I are parted.
So the 661 seemed the perfect choice and the ixs went back.

This thread’s turning out to be far more sensible, and dull, than I ever imagined.
Let’s hear some opposite, but equally authoritative, opinions based on anecdotes, and some childish insults.

29″ wheels for people who wish to travel swiftly with little effort over mildly bumpy terrain.

26″ wheels for people who throw themselves off cliffs in order to shred the Gnarr.

650b wheels for people who while growing up were asked a lot “would you put your head in the oven if you were told to”.

If it’s the stealth stuff you are talking about, it’s excellent.
Best chain lube I have used, dries quickly and chain, cassette and rings stay gunk free which makes cleaning your chain line a doddle before reapplications.

May be a touch expensive but Goes a long way due to the pipette.

I like mtb vids and there are some real corkers out there of people with super skills which make wonder how they are not dead.

But I have just come across this one that given this thread and my contribution has made me feel a proper lady garden.

My rp23 I have the pro pedal set at 3 and there is a lot of difference between that an open.
I leave it open most of the time, but sometimes forget to put back to open after a climb, only soon reminded as instead of the normal plush ride I start to get bucked out of the seat as if being kicked in the behind.

I like to get a little air and would like to be more awesome.

But I am older and my body somewhat Broken down.
In the past stupid antics have nearly killed me and left me laid up hospitalised with a fractured spine so came close to being in a wheel chair.

That was the point I think I went from being fearless to fearful . Now I will look at a situation and see pain and injury, where as when younger death and injury never occurred to me.

Also a middle aged man turning up in a taxi on crutches having to explain to his wife he will be off work for six weeks because he cased a jump, i am guessing rad will not be one of the things his wife will be calling him.
Then you have call your boss who I am also guessing will not be stoked.

If you like to jump, more power to you. Post up some vids and if you are as good as you think you are people will congratulate you.
But don’t put other people down for not thinking of mountainbiking in the same way you do.

I like an adrenaline rush now and then. But I also like to walk in the woods, so therefore I like to ride my bike in the woods.

Some people like to jump , some people like to get round as fast as they can.
And some people like to just get out.
Do your thing and let others do theirs.

    There, is that better.

Perfect. Now we just need to work out where your question mark has gone… Maybe it failed due to those low temperatures. What’s the normal operation temperature range of your keyboard
    (dammit, mine’s gone too!)

I would like to apologise for the absence of my question mark, but, I do not believe in the concept of the question mark.

I would like to hope that the situation does get resolved, once the dust has settled.
I’d like to see more correct use of the quote facility on this website. Sadly, that just seems like a pipe dream to me…
I’m amazed that, even after 8 pages of this, Brant is still behaving in such a curmudgeonly, harrumphy manner! It’s almost like he thinks he can recover his company’s reputation by apportioning blame to the customer! He can’t. Unfortunately, the customer is always right. And when you’ve taken money off someone, no matter how much it sticks in the craw, you have to be nice to them.

Slightly OT but am I the only one that is now worried about getting on a flight…….carbon fibre not coping with big temperature variations……like ground to 35,000 feet. Eek!

That depends are on one making planes now. .D

    A little uncalled for .
Ops bike failed, on one choose to save a few quid and not help as they did not have to.
Op feels aggrieved , vents spleen. Toys come out of the pram from all parties.
Man left down a frame , company loses a possible few thou in possible future sales possibly. Surely there can not be much more to discuss.

I would like to hope that the situation does get resolved, once the dust has settled.

The op may have been unlucky enough to receive 2 lemons,
But was treated poorly in my view, and if you treat customers poorly they become unhappy customers and then not customers at all.

All companies can have fantastic customer service when things go well and they are taking your money,
It’s when the shit hits the fan you find the true mark of a company.

I agree the garantee does run starting from the original purchase so legally you are not getting shafted.
But also believe your experience shows the frames to be a bit crap, so would not buy a carbon frame from them again at the very least.
But that said I was of the impression on one frames were cheap and cheerful so to speak.
Agree surely you could have the frame easily repaired,

2014 pikes tapered only, after this year revs will be tapered only.
Sektors are a more lower/mid level capable am fork that are currently being heavily discounted everywhere at the moment for what ever reason.

I bought the revs this year despite not really being currently economically flush because I wanted to get them while I still can.

I have sektor DPCs on the five because they were all I could afford when building the bike and will look into having them upgraded if I can soon.

You can google for two minutes and find a suspension fork no problem, look at an on line retailers entire range of forks and see how few are 26″ straight steerer, and the choice Is only getting smaller.

    chip
    Free Member

Yes but not the forks of my choice, but instead make do, or buy a replacement frame That would take tapered forks.

I have a 2010 5 also ,with 1-1/8 headtube, and started looking for the newer 26″ frame with tapered headtube,
But then thought better of it as I would not be surprised if the steerer standard changed again.
And decided instead to carry on with what I have and worry about when the time came, which is basically what you are saying.

I have no problem with other standards but the quick and deliberate killing off of recent standards just to force the market.

That numptie from giant saying they had an endgame in mind for 29ers sums it up, they will try to kill it before it has run its natural course.

And when all the 29er riding people here start bleating that the industry is trying to kill the standard they enjoy I will laugh, probably not actually, knowing my luck I would have bought one the day before.

I am guessing it would feel some what bigger, longer chain stays, longer wheelbase.
Wether it feels taller, may do, despite maybe not being so.

    chip

My hard tail currently has 140 revs with straight steerer in 44mm head tube using internal headset.

To use tapered forks (the current standard) I would have to fit external bottom cup and sacrifice 10mm travel to keep roughly the same angles.
Then if I have to then buy 650b forks I would then have to sacrifice another 10mm of travel.
So I will mention forks, if that’s alright with you.
