Title says cycle path. If it was a cycle path I would have some sympathy.
Shared use, you have to expect the unexpected and ride accordingly. Shared use paths I treat as a sidewalk (sorry for the Americanism) that I don’t have to get off and push and ride in the same manner as I would if were on the pavement, which would be not much faster than walking pace.

Only the op knows how fast he was going but encountering a dog on a share used path is not even unexpected. If the op was pootleing I would say the dog owner would be at fault, but if he was pushing his speed I would consider his behaviour dangerous on a shared use path and consider his actions a contributory factor.

Has a CS-HG31 cassette so free hub.
Again surprised me for the money as the comparative road bike is freewheel.

I must have missed that, I opted to pay cash on collection if that made a difference.
My opinion is based on experience not hearsay Neil.
But I am an optimist, I must be as I own a hoodoo, subway, and now the crixus, everyone bought new from a different store in hope.

All great bikes in the end.(especially considering the price paid)

I was not given the option.
I reserved online and received an email saying The great news is we’ll ring to confirm the best collection time – then get busy building your bike.

This afternoon I rang them as I had heard nothing just to check they had my order and was told it was already built.

I have had halfords uxbridge previously try to send me home without a crown race before and when at halfords ruislip heard a mechanic throw his toys out the pram because “why do I get to build all the shit bikes”.

The best service I had from halfords previously was at ruislip when the usual chaps were not there but a 16 year old kid, who new his stuff, was meticulous and super polite.
    Never saw him again.

The pads are really close to the rims, surely the whole point of cantis was mud clearance.

Spannering aside the bike is pretty good for the money.

Picked my crixus up today from watford halfords, got a cab there to ride back.
When I got there I found the gears not indexed properly and the chain rubbing on the front mech in the top two gears. And The rear brake like this.

But I thought these are things I can fix at home and if as they said the bike was built today and not given me the one that was on display yesterday but coincidentally was not on display today as it had been “put in there portacabin” I rather they did not go near it again.

Then on the way home the gears kept jamming due to the black gear lever behind the brake lever not returning so pushed the bike the last two miles home.

When I got home I rang as I would not get back there before closing to say I was not happy and would be bringing it back tomorrow for a refund out of frustration from there piss poor spannering.
I was assured the bike was set up correctly but they would check it and give me instruction how to ride it. 😀

After I put the phone down I realised the problem was a bent lever so physically bent it back and problem solved. And will now accept halfords mechanics don’t give a shit and sort the rest out myself.

Apart from that it rides really well.
(If that back brake is set up correctly some one please correct me)

What because I am not temporary blinded every time I pass an oncoming car.

    bollocks.
Driving at night on the road, every time you pass another car you’re temporarily partially blinded such that you can’t see what’s immediately behind the other car.

Not me, a trip to spec savers is in order for you.

Apparently 8.4s for SRAM and campag and 9s for shimano.
I thought cantis had to be replaced with mini Vs instead of proper Vs due to position of mounting lug on cantis being different to V brakes.

Could be completely wrong (usually am)as I have only been looking into this this morning.

I nearly canceled this in favour of their karkinos road bike for £50 more for the calliper brakes.

But the karkinos has a tourney groupset and a freewheel instead of a cassette, the same freewheel as my old subway.
So even if I spend another £75 on some decent mini vs the crixus is still the way to go.

    Do they work well.

What are the brakes like for stopping, as the cantis are the one thing that are making me think I may regret my order.

I need to lose a few pounds (serious understatement) and have been using my beaver shod 1x rigid on evening Tarmac rides to burn of the calories.

I have just ordered a crixus purely for this now and to give the 500 mile a month challenge a serious go. Are there any puncture proof cx tyres as don’t fancy doing repairs out at midnight.

Now, once the results are published in full, you would be welcome to read through them and questions the results scientifically.

Tubeless repair kit with a couple of patches
    Mini pump
Small handy pack of tissues in case caught short.
    £20 note

Tiny retractable abus cable lock (for securing bike in beer garden while nipping to the bar of country pub)
The times I have not brought this and stood outside a pub assessing the chances of a scroute stealing my bike while ordering a pint only to air on the side of caution and reluctantly pedal off with beer on my mind.

So if it’s a bare frame, will they just be pressing in the cups and sending you home with the rest of headset in a box or fitting your forks too.

If every bike related subject could only be covered ten times never mind once the forum would have had to close down years ago.

This forum is super friendly to new members compared to others I have known where new member baiting is a sport that seemingly resulted in as many new members getting banned on their first day as made it through the deliberate flaming/trolling initiation.

Wheeling In a complete bike and handing them a new boxed headset to fit.
£25 does not sound too steep.
Surely bike mechanics can’t all pay their mortgages in beer and biscuits.

    Great stuff!

Is suspension/pads/helmet really necessary for a trail like that though?

Only if you crash (helmet and pads anyway)
Even then not necessary but definitely preferential.
I don’t think pants are necessary but I still wear them.

I have my light on the right side of my bars next to my shifter angled down and to the left so it puts its main spot from 0 to 10-15 foot in front of me. So not only is it not pointed at windscreen height but not pointed in the direction of the oncoming lane.

If I am on unlit country roads I will increase the power setting when no oncoming vehicles if I feel I need to but will turn down again when oncoming vehicles approach, it being nay bother as it’s close to hand.

I am not sure portraying black person as a monkey can be called “sailing close to the wind”. Its just racist.

    Depends if there was intent.
Don’t know the cartoon you speak of but if meant as in the the term you pay peanuts you get monkeys as in useless or I will speak to the organ grinder as in not the man in charge.

My sister said to a new black mother a friend of my niece of her baby, he’s a cheeky little monkey.
The mother took offence where non was meant.
My sister calls all little boys “monkeys”

To be racist is to believe you are better than someone simply based on the fact you believe you are of a superior race than them.

Until there is scientific proof there is a god,
Peoples right to believe in god goes hand in hand with peoples right to say how ridicules such a belief is.

Religious people have the right to draw cartoons mocking my lack of faith, I am not allowed to shoot them,

Not sure about an ism chip but bigotry or simply prejudice are words that would work pretty well for you.

Thanks for clearing that up grum.

Also what is the correct “ISM” for discriminating against a person of a certain Religion.
It would not bother me if we had a black, brown or south East Asian prime minister if they were Christian or atheist but I would be decidedly nervous about a Muslim prime minister irrelevant of their/or lack of colour.

A few years ago i would not have been so, so what ism am I suffering as I am definitely not racist as I would never discriminate against a person based on the colour of their skin or think that I was better than anyone else simply because I was white and they was not. but I would based on their beliefs or more to the point how their beliefs cause them to discriminate against others.

A good person with faith will do good in the name of their faith.
An evil person with faith will do evil in the name of their faith.
What bothers me is, could an evil person with faith use their faith to cause a good person with faith to do evil.

To me religion is poppycock and I have the right to say so and It is impossible for me to blaspheme if i have not religion.
People have the right to believe but don’t get so bent out of shape at others who don’t and consider it no more believable than fairies at the end of the garden.

And in such circumstances should think that is your opinion and you are entitled to it not,

This extends to all religions, when jade goodie called shilpa sheti (probably spelt that wrong)
A Chapati or some thing like that in the big brother house they were burning effigies of jade on the streets of India.

I can not take that behaviour seriously, I am no fan of Christianity but at least now it is being forced to join the modern world.

As far as links between racism and islamophobia… Would Barack Obama be accused of being a muslim if he was white?

Probably with a name like Barack Hussein Obama which is African with Arabic origins.
What happened in Paris is terrible and seeing everyone on the streets in peaceful vigil for the dead and in support of freedom gives me hope that the evil of the like that was seen in Paris yesterday will never triumph.
Nor will the people who would have us return to the dark ages with their warped religious ideology.

Read in one of those readers digest booklets in the dentists a section dedicated to the things children say.
A woman wrote that while sat in a very busy but silent waiting room at her doctors surgery her very young daughter said loud enough for everyone to hear,
“Mummy is the doctor going to shine his torch up your bum again today”

She then just wished the ground would open up. 😀
