Thanks guys, this is some great advice and a pretty ringing endorsement for Pro 2s. It would be interesting to hear some experiences with the on one wheels, I suppose knowing the forum they can’t be too bad otherwise there’d be a fair few more threads moaning about them, unless of course no one has any!

The set they’re replace (Hope XC/Bulb on 321s) I’ve had for about 6 years now and have served me very well. But I need a bolt through set for my jumpy hardtail bike and it would be nice to shed some weight. I’d certainly hope to get similar lifespan from the next set.

My bike is silver frame and fork with black and red components here and there, not really any white. I fear I’ve reached a new cycling low in veing worried about rim colour.

Would Arch rims be a good middle ground? Shame they’re not available as ready made hoops, is there anywhere doing custom made ones for under £300?

Those Argyle RCTs are very tempting if they are closer to an air sprung Pike than a stretched out dirt jump fork. Does anyone have any views if they’d be an option for an all round ‘all mountain’ fork?

1.8 Mud x running tubeless here too, intended for use in muddy conditions but no call to switch them out this year Very impressed with them. I also have a set of racing ralphs if the summer ever arrives!

I’ve been living out here for 3 years now, it’s quite unique in that the centre of the city is much smaller than other cities and if you look out side that area (if you want a garden you will have to) then it’s much less desirable with Danes and the prices are much lower without being that far outside the city.

The further out you go the moore you get and by car you’ll never be that far out, just doon’t ask how much it costs to own a car.

I’ve done a few races including the 300ft marathon listed above (really not intended as a technical challenge, it can’t be if I did it) They’re very big on weight weenie XC here so if that’s your thing there are quite a few good marked routes not far from the city itself.

Oh yes just to confirm it’s very expensive, the Danes are hard to get to know, the language isn’t particularly alluring and is very hard to learn and the women are rather nice (but the Swedes are nicer). Feel free to drop me an email if you need any help.

Not at all, people have been running double and bash set ups long before dual ring derailleurs existed.

By the way, swtiching to a double (24-38) was the best change I made on my bike, go for it.

You make a very convincing case 😉

Sorry to be the one negative voice but perhaps I’ve missed something. I bought a set off here secondhand, Racing Ralphs on ztr Olympics and both gave out on a sandy section half way through a 103km race. Hacking out the valves wasn’t much fun!

But they were incredibly light and if I could believe I could get them working reliably again I certainly would. Is there a trick, how regularly should you replace the latex?

    Sorry for the slight hijack!

Thanks Ian, not the best news but better to be ready as I’ve ridden it through all kinds of filth since I’ve had it and I don’t really intend going easy on it.

Can I ask which model hope headset did you get, I didn’t realise they did semi integrated ones and where can you source a set of bearings? It might be worth having a few spares by the sounds of it!

I had one quite a few years ago, I think it was back in 2006 but I don't think they have changed too much, triple change ring and all. They are heavy but I used it for all kinds of riding (even commuted 20 miles a day on mine for a while).

If she doesn't mind the heft I'd definitely recommend it, it's a lot of fun to ride and I'd say that's the main thing.

Windridge look very impressive, the red metallic could be nice until of course it gets chipped the first time! Nols I'll be interested to see how it goes with your pitch.

Cheers guys, primarily I'd like them for riding, I'm not sure how suitable those Oakleys may be but do look great. The Enduras seem great value, well worth a try.

Bike 24 in Germany I think a fair bit cheaper than the Swedish lin above but that's still not what I'd call cheap!

That sounds superb exactly what I'd like, 1.5kg frame you can ride anywhere, I even quite like the unique look.

Now if only it wasn't a whole month until they have it in my size…. thanks for the feedback!

Looks lovely and I'm very tempted to build something with similar forks and carbon bits. How does it ride?

I run TA 24-38-Bash and an 11-34 block and rarely ever feel lacking in range. Best change I ever made.

Researching the same thing, if you look around online and don't mind going back to 2009 models you can get:

    Marin Attack Trail
    Specialized Enduro Expert
    Kona Coilair Deluxe

    or 2010 models
    Mondraker Dune R
    Commencal Meta 5.5 Team

I'm very tempted toward the attack trail or the dune personally, thought I'd share my research. Hope it helps a bit!

'sorry' guys 😉 I had a feeling 'what fork for' was just a level above 'what tyre for'. I appreciate the advice, I'm definitely edging closer to the Maverick.

Cheers guys, I'm afraid I'm not tempted toward the Maverick forks, I owned a set of SC32, it's not that they were bad but I couldn't get on with the twisty nature of them. So it's more about if a fox 120 or 140 is more suitable.

Vinneyeh how does it handle going up with the 140s?

Thanks everyone that's top advice, I'll give it a go at the very least I'll familiarise myself with the anatomy of a hub!

did this about 5 years ago in one of those not really thinking very hard moments. Crushed the nail inside the finger and it ended up falling off in tesco. By the sounds of it I got off lightly! Hope it heals up soon.
