Thanks for the offer Rob, I actually already have them was just asking before I set them up tubeless.

Bump this up again, I’m going to run these both front and rear following Rob’s enthusiasm on here. Has anyone tried reversing these on the back or just run them as normal?

Well I like Olso more than a lot of people on here it seems. there are some good museums hidden away and with only a day there this[/url] is well worth spending a few hours on.

I was in the same postion but a bit more flexible on dates, still I booked that week with the White Room, hopefully see you there although it sounds like I may be left in your dust!

Sorry to go slightly OT, I am getting a set of the 2009 wheels and wondering if they have the same issues as Stans in recent years with Tubeless ready tyres (Schewalbe and Geax TNT for example) being very tight to fit. I have my eye on thos cheap Geax tyres on On-One.

More great ideas, I will get on it. BC looks like a hell of a fun trip if the flights aren’t too pricy!

I have an Anthem, it’s a evry capable bike beyond just racing whereas I think the Scalpel is a thoroughbred race tool.

Looking at those specs the Scalpel will be considerably lighter and looks better value. If you want it for racing I’d go for that.

Great suggestions here guys, really wet my appetite for getting something booked up. Thanks! I’ll be off to find out what availability is like through late summer.

I built up a Carbon whippet from a second hand frame bits I had lying around. My route is pretty flat and only half your distance but I set it up singlespeed with rigids and it does the job nicely. With the spares I had I think it only cost around £300 to do.

As above I have a set of the 9/4 750 risers and they’re now bolted to a Fox 36 via a Thomson stem. I notice no flex from the front end. Only negatives I have ever seen said about them is due to preconceptions (too light/ too thin to trust them). For me they have been fit and forget.

    Hi Gee,

I bought them in the summer of last year but I didn’t actually weigh them on the scales. Very light for sure but sadly can’t give you a gram figure.

I took them out to the alps in the first week and they survived a crash which broke the stem so I consider them pretty tough.

I have the riser version, very light, nice shape, shown no signs of wear or fatigue (have not snapped!). Would heartily recommend them.

Stans Olympics on Pro 2 with DT Aerolites. Not that light by today’s standards but have held up pretty well as I’m not that light or particularly gentle with them.

I had the on-one, the stem itself is a lovely piece of kit but the one I had the bolts did seem to be made of a particularly soft kind of cheese. After that I spent just over £10 more and got a Thomson.

10.5 miles each way on a fairly beat up old city bike, hoping to get a Whippet built up with spares to run as a single speed commuter in the next few days.

I’d avoid superstar kevlar pads, the sand in Swinley seems to eat them in just a couple of rides, I’d go for the sintered version.

I ran 160mm floaters with elixir 5 and elixir mags, no issues I noticed, didn’t seem to be any strange rubbing or wear.

I think Wiggle usually sell aftermarket bits, I got one from there at Christmas on a similar deal to the one that just came up. It came complete with bleed kit and all the other bits and bobs.

Possibly give you clearance issues at full travel, it’s at least worth checking for.

I’ve had both custom built Merlin and CRC wheels, both have been faultless, I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

Frogleek – I’m really interested to hear that, I had the exact same problem and spent hours trying to get sufficient clearance even though it buggered up my shifting. My frame is back with them and I’m waiting for the issue to be resolved, however knowing that it requires a new drive train is making what looked a good deal seem otherwise.

I don’t really want to have to replace a perfectly good Sram x0 drive train and if I had known I would have gone elsewhere.

Not able to help with the 100m fork issue but I’m your height and had an 18″ as I wanted it to be quite chuckable and it was, surprisingly it was perfectly comfortable to ride XC too.

I ran mine with 150mm zocchis and it was great till some scummers nicked it.

I got through a set in two days of alpine riding. They haven’t lasted much longer in wintery UK conditions either. Quiet and powerful though, I’m temped to save them for summer in case that’s when they prove a little more durable.

    How much is your budget?

I have a set of 2001 SIDs and whatever you go for will be a huge improvement. I don’t think you’d go wrong with a set of Rebas.

Not quite what you’re after but I put a thread up on here a few months ago about the riser equivalent. Had mixed responses but they mainly feel into two camps: “don’t have them and they’ll break” and the others were “do have them and they haven’t broken”.

I bit the bullet and got myself a pair, very happy with them. Ridden and crashed them in the alps, and no reason to doubt their strength. Nicely finished, very comfortable. I’d recommend going for them, they do have some pedigree with carbon.

Thanks all, glad it’s not as stupid a question as I first thought. It’s a Novtech hub so I will try it on the drive side and see how it goes.

I bought an exotic carbon bar which I’m very happy with, they do a very wide flat version too.

Just seen it’s only 6.5 degree sweep but it might be worth considering.

Top man, searching through pedals and for ‘Saint’ yielded no result. Now off for an eye tests.

Looking forward to world cup level deceleration.

Milko – that’s a bargain but can’t see the Saints on Evans, am I blind or have they just sold out?

Just heard mine is delayed from being a couple of weeks to another 6 weeks, quite disappointing.

I am! Waiting for mine to replace the over-low BB frame I had, very happy with On-One’s service, but really hoping they’ll come in early so I can build it up next week.

It’s a genuine raw finish so shows the true aluminium finish so you will see some scuffs which you will add to over time. However unless you look closely these aren’t noticable.

I haven’t got any new close ups of mine but there are some on the shedfire blog if you have a search.

I wouldn’t recommend Mountain Trax, I had a wheel built there spoke came loose within a couple months and the wheel now is less than straight. Given it’s a heavy duty rim it’s pretty disappointing. It may well have been a one off though.

Is the string between axles and measuring the offset sufficent for you to know if it’s one which was subject to the jigging error

    yes

Measured mine and the drop is about 10mm. Explains the large number of pins in my pedals that are now just stumps!

Hi Brant, I received mine shortly after the new V3 was launched. Is the string between axles and measuring the offset sufficent for you to know if it’s one which was subject to the jigging error or is there a better way to tell?

@Pridds, thanks very much for the advice, I’ll give them a call in the morning.

@Pridds, thanks for the information. I spent a while fettling with the shock in the alps to try to get the last of the travel. No matter how hard I hit things I was getting the same results.

When you say call them do you mean TF or On One?

Sorry for the thread hijack! FWIW I still love the bike and would wholeheartedly recommend it.
