I’m assuming it’s the double crank which I’m running on my boosted Intense Spider frame with no issues at all. One Up have a handy guide and basically the outer position on a double crank is aligned fine for boost as it’s further out than the middle ring would be.
I think with a 30t ring it offsets it slightly further inboard for clearance issues, I haven’t tried that but I don’t think it should cause you any trouble. From playing with chainline on a non boost frame, being slightly further inboard is much preferable to being too far out.
chillidaveFree MemberThanks John! I appreciate your help and I think you’re right, it looks like a pretty uniform ring inside the tube, I really don’t want to take sandpaper to the frame, especially as it’s a fairly imprecise job but it’s a shame not to be able to run a nice long drop post.
I may send Merlin a mail, at least I know it’s not an issue on all Spiders, mine is also an XL.
chillidaveFree MemberI picked up one of these frames for the same price but my build is going incredibly slow, great to see you’re happy with it John.
I have an issue with the seat tube though, I can only insert the post about 200mm till it hits a ring of carbon that stops it going further. It doesn’t look like it but does yours have the same issue?
chillidaveFree MemberI’ve used it to tape a few wheels, seems very similar to the Specialized Roval tape I originally used. It’s quite plasticy so installing requires a fair amount of work to stick down properly but it works fine and is very cheap. I found it better than the Easton tape.
chillidaveFree MemberAs a Copenhagen resident, but non fish eater I only feel partly qualified to help but I’ve heard good things about Kødbyens Fiskebar. It is a shortish walk from the central station, through some fairly ‘interesting’ areas. It’s in the old meat halls area which is now very hip.
You can catch a train direct from the central station every 20mins or less and takes about 15 mins. Standard 3 zone ticket, one of the few cheap things here is getting to the airport.
chillidaveFree MemberThanks all, I may give it one more go., I’ma lso tempted to shell out for a proper headset press like the Unior one with the stepped guides.
Do these work with these wonky, angle adjust headsets thought, they seem to rely on both cups being perpendicular to the headtube. I’m very tempted if they made the job easy but I’m a bit worried it would be a waste of cash.
chillidaveFree MemberI had a set of 09 36 Talas fork and used to service them regularly, it was the same process as for a standard fork. There were in depth instructions for this but they seem to have gone from the Fox website. Just remove the lowers, dust seals and use a spanner to pry out the seals if needed. Squirt in some new oil and away you go.
chillidaveFree MemberThanks, I’m glad it’s not just me then! I had them in the freezer but they quickly warmed up. I’ll chuck them back in over night and have a go again in the morning following your advice Kenny.
chillidaveFree MemberTried the freezer and grease and tapping with a mallet to straighten it up but it just doesn’t seem to what to go straight. I’ll have another crack though thanks.
chillidaveFree MemberYou’re very welcome 🙂 I was running the same combo on my 26er for about 5 years. I don’t think you’ll go far wrong for the money.
chillidaveFree MemberI’m running Chunky Monkeys front and rear with the TE on the front, works great tubeless, grips very well in everything but heavy slop and cheap.
chillidaveFree MemberI went out 3 years ago and it’s safe to say you’re one lucky man!
I just made the decision to head North from DK again this year rather than heading south to the Alps and this has put me right in the mood. Hope the Scandinavian summer holds out another 3 weeks!
chillidaveFree MemberI’ve been running them tubeless for 3 years now, pretty much the easiest to get inflated that I’ve tried personally. They were doable with just a track pump and I’ve only had one puncture in that time.
chillidaveFree MemberHappy to help, just rebuilding mine, still very fond of it despite it being all kinds of unfashionable these days 🙂
chillidaveFree MemberThe 26″ version is 44 top and 49 bottom, I’m definitely running a Type F Hope headset on the bottom and I believe it’s a Type 2 on the top. That’s to run a tapered steerer fork.
chillidaveFree MemberI commute but usually stretch post ride only. I try to do at least some basic stretches for hamstrings, glutes and quads, when I have a little time though this has been very helpful and I’ve really noticed a difference in recovery and an improvement in long standing niggling aches.
chillidaveFree Member“I was looking at that Rango recently and saw that you can get the very same frame from China with forks from another seller.”
To be fair they are not identical, geometry is slightly different (for all On-One’s geometry can be trusted), but the Rango has a much more sensible 31.6 seat post size than the 27.2 on the chiner.
I’d actually be quite tempted by one if they didn’t muck their pricing around so much, you could be sure of geometry and when they say they spec a certain group set that it actually came with that proper group set.
chillidaveFree MemberI’d look at a secondhand newer card for that price, technology has moved a long way fast, it will also depend on your system, what kind of psu you have will also dictate which cards you can run as some will require an extra power supply.
A simple choice would be the Geforce 750 Ti as it doesn’t need any extra power and has just been superseded by a newer model, it should be well capable on games from the last few years. I’ve been running one and just upgraded to the 1050 Ti so have one spare (this wasn’t meant to be a thinly veiled advert!).
chillidaveFree MemberIt has been an awesome year for me too, seen a couple of bands and artists I’ve waited many years for and a few surprises.
5, Angel Olsen (DR Koncerthuset) – seen her before but she’s matured, a much more engaging performer.
4, Steve Mason (Ideal Bar) – performed an acoustic set to about 20 people, a bit like having one of your heroes playing in your living room.
3, At The Drive-In (Roskilde) – 16 years waiting and they somehow didn’t disappoint.
2, A Moth of Dust (Kleine Donner) – Another hero of mine, played a song I requested, special experience.
1, Le Butcherettes (Loppen) – TGB is the closest I’ve come to a true modern rock star, aggressive, strutting, screaming and utterly compelling yet hugged the entire audience after.Next year has a lot to live up to, hopefully Girl Band will tour again as they cancelled their show here.
chillidaveFree MemberHave you seen the Pinkbike review? As said above I think it depends on what you want it for, it seems like a great all round bike and 70 degrees seems to be middling ground for a 29er.
I’ve been tempted by that bike a number of times, lovely looking though I was more tempted by the Pike/X1 build but it seems that has sold out.
chillidaveFree MemberHave been looking for a reasonably trail friendly XC 29er, and quite tempted by the Maccatuskil for £450 as it works out cheaper than the equivalent Chiner frame, are they any good? Don’t see too much about them.
chillidaveFree MemberSensible choice, I stuck a 120mm fork in my, much older than yours, Anthem and it’s a very capable bike. I also stuck an offset bush in the top shock mount which took another half a degree off the head angle and could be something worth trying too.
chillidaveFree MemberNot at all surprised that it was a Schwalbe to go, I had two tyres fail at the sidewall long before the tread showed any sign of wear.
chillidaveFree MemberI stayed at Twin Trails B&B last time I was there, close, very reasonably priced and the owners couldn’t have been more helpful. Great fry up to start the day too.
chillidaveFree MemberI’ve been running that bar for 4 years, very light and nice shape. I’ve also used it in the Alps and other bike parks and it has stood up to everything.
Personally I’d avoid the carbon wrap stems, they just seem heavier and more expensive with no real benefit over the alu ones IMHO.
chillidaveFree MemberWow, just wow. Had me on the edge of my seat there. Delighted!
chillidaveFree MemberIt’s working for me but I opened the player before the coverage starts so it’s probably an issue with the app. Hope they fix it soon for you all. No spoilers from me.
chillidaveFree MemberThanks everyone, some great stuff here. I have a piss pot type helmet and some mtb knee/elbow guards that were skin eaters while pedaling all day which I think could do a good job. A full face I’ll look in to.
Steve – I’m not really sure which area I’d use it most, I’m thinking something quite all-round would be good, if such a bike exists.
Mathew – it’s a lovely looking bike but I have two issues, I can’t find the sizing online and I’m in Copenhagen so postage would probably be prohibitive.
Mildred – I saw your thread on that cruiser, utterly lovely looking bike, I quite fancy going all in and trying the 20″ wheels.
Pickle & Nash – thanks I had spent a while on there but sifting through to find the right size meant I got a bit lost. Appreciate the recommendations for their service though and the suggestions, that Subrosa is quite tasty at first glance.
chillidaveFree MemberUberbike race matrix are my favourite aftermarket pads: good power, not noisey other than when wet and last ages.
chillidaveFree MemberThis may not work for you but did for me with my Anthem to discover what caused the creak.
Take a ride and find exactly how to provoke the creak then spray a little water on each potential culprit. I found just the tiniest amount on the upper shock mount shut mine up for 10 minutes, one new bushing later and all was good again.
chillidaveFree MemberHi Wilko, if possible I’d be happy to take them off your hands. I’m in need of a set as my Hope X2 brake is completely gone now.
chillidaveFree MemberOops, really sorry for causing more confusion but that’s what I was told by planet x. Will order myself a set if any are left now.
chillidaveFree MemberI spotted this yesterday and asked PX if it was a pair, just had a reply and unfortunately not, it’s just for one brake.
chillidaveFree MemberI bought a pair a couple of months ago, I must have put on 1000km by now. Very happy with them, they were slightly under the claimed weights without the superstar tape. They’re holding up very well so far, considerably lighter than the Forza wheels they replaced. Braking was shocking initially but they’ve bedded in nicely.
The only downside is I feel a bit cheated at £100! At current prices I’m tempted to buy another for spares.
chillidaveFree MemberThanks to OP, DMR Vault MGs for £62, hopefully will bring an end the days of shredded calves.
chillidaveFree MemberDid anyone see the chap running a Specialized Epic (I think) with rigid forks and a metal brace instead of a shock? Is that a swap people make for easier stages?
Would love to have a go at one of these races one day, if I ever get close to that level of fitness.
chillidaveFree MemberI should have known most of those who are up at this time on a Saturday may not have control of the remote!
I quite enjoyed that anyway, incredible scenery and as said above some inspiring stories. It has motivated me to get off the sofa and get the bike fixed to get out for a ride.
chillidaveFree MemberI’ve tried quite a few and as above the Saguaros are the stand out tyre. I run a non TNT one tubeless on the front with a Mezcal II on the back and not had a puncture yet. The Mezcal works well as a fast summer tyre, it slides all over the place in the slick though but it’s in some way predictable.
Also tried the Gomas which disappointed me, tends to slide on any kind of moisture on stones. The AKA seems just a heavier, more draggy Saguaro so I don’t see the point. The Datura is a great mud tyre, especially in the ‘light’ version. All go up tubeless well, though some needed a cola bottle compressor.
