I dislike riding full stop. I just post on here instead. It’s like being just to cycling without the effort. Think I might buy an EBIKE just to get some strava KOMs and annoy everyone.

… I am of course joking, off on a night ride tonight and if I’m honest I’m looking forward to the pint at the end more. However once we get going I’ll be grinning I’m sure.

I like the am45s… however they weigh a ton. Cam anyone recommend a robust shoe that doesn’t feel like I’ve got a brick on each foot?

Could always join Natsmtb… rides most weekends in the peaks. Get to know a lot through those guys.

Can anyone tell me if there is different types of shimano olive and barb?

I’ve pinched a hose of another brake I had (slx) but had to cut 8t down as it was super long.

I’ve seen what appears to be a silver and a brass coloured barb… will either be OK with an xt brake from circa 2014?

I’ve got a draw full of formula and sram brakes. Are any if the hoses compatible?

That’s why it won’t unscrew then. Pants… not bothered about the buying a new hose… it’s the fact I’ve got to re-route the flipping cable!

Need to buy a new hose then

Thanks for the input folks. Returned my 32t chainring and ordered a 30t.. I’m going to run the 11-46t with slightly too easy top end through the winter grime then switch to an xx1 10-42t when the weather gets nicer. That way all the winter grime won’t be wearing a very pricey cassette from new.

That’s the thing cpon… it’s not a few grams it’s a few hundred compared with my old 10sp 11-32. Guess that’s why I’m noticing it.

On the flip side I’m blown away by how light the xt m8000 cranks are!!!

Thinking about this a whole 1lb stuck right out back is not a good thing, I’m thinking about when you want to flick the back end sideways etc.

Might price up a sram driver and cassette. Can I run 11sp sram cassette with shimano 11sp chain mech and shifter?

    Just Google it… 460g. Isn’t that a whole 1lb?

Very good Mike. For the record I can deadlift 200% bodyweight. I don’t normally bother at all about weighing parts or even investigating their weight… but this 1 parts is actually noticeable. The back end of the bike feels noticebly heavier as I pick it up.

Can anyone tell me what the 11-46t xt weight. I’m thinking it’s north of 500g

Can anyone tell me supposed weight of the xt 11-46t? I’ve fitted it now and can’t be bothered to remove it to weigh it.

    Felt REALLY heavy.

Look up TNC on Facebook. Group gets out every Tuesday night for some local trail riding and has a few trips to Wales etc a year.

Also as to where to live. West Bridgford is brilliant but very expensive.. feels like a nice London pricey suburb. Beeston is quite studenty but much more reasonably priced and has good local amenities and plenty of pubs etc

I think you’ve got to consider people can’t always own 5 bikes too. I’ve got a 100mm xc race type hardtail and a 160mm slack enduro bike. That way I can take the 160mm machine on peak District all dayers and still have a great time with it in the alps or at uplifts. Having a 140mm trail bike and a DH race bike would be better but I’ve got 1 bike to fit both those scenarios.

My hardtail is great for rises out with the family and also light xc type duties such as a blast round sherwood pines.. I’d rather have 2 Hartails where 1 is almost cyclo cross and the other something like a Cotic bfe but again it’s one tool for a few jobs.

I heard the shimano ones aren’t proper narrow wide and drop chains a bit easier than a narrow wide?

Can anyone advise what standard I need to order then? Want a 32 narrow wide that will fit. Links would be amazing

Yeh I know how to measure a diameter. I’ve never seen anything like on the xt m8000 cranks, it’s like the x has been squashed if you were to draw lines from the centre of each hole to one another, rather than making a square it makes a rectangle?

What’s with all the Trek hating? They make and have made some great bikes!

Is the Bfe slacker? I thought they had the same geometry but the Bfe has heavier gauge tubing?

Don’t stand up much unless it’s extremely steep (seems to be on the road bike).

I could be over tightening the straps, I’ll try them looser.

What about the saddle? How does this cause it?

I’m not asking for like for like. I’m asking for a sheet of the same/similar uv resistant material so Im not paying £75 for someone else to have cut it to size.

Anyone got one of these. I’ve got a 58cm head and worried the medium might be too small being right at the top of the size range?

Cheers for all the info guys.

Been looking and it appears the sram cranksets are hard to mate up with BB92 so I’m going to stick with shimano for ease of replacing bb’s in the alps etc.

Johne, are you using a long or medium cage mech with the 46t?

    chilled76

Anyone know of any good deals on sram groupsets? Shimano ones are peanuts at the min on CRC, was just going to buy an XT 1×11 set up.

Thanks for all the info so far

Need a new freehub if I go SRAM :-( also In my personal experience I find it wears out quicker than shimano kit.

Can anyone answer the question about mech length? Can you use a medium cage with a 11-46t cassette?

Tends to be 4-5 hour rides in the peaks, mix of long draggy climbs and the occasional short sharp one.

I’m thinking 32t with 11-46 at the minute, however I really don’t like the look of a dinner plate on the back so may go 11-42t and just man-up!

    chilled76

One other question.. Can you get away with medium cage mechs for an 11-46t cassette?

    chilled76

    Thanks for that,

Had penned some similar calculations, was thinking the 650b vs 26 makes the ratios feel slightly harder thought right? For one revolution of the wheel you go slightly further so it’s more effort for the same gearing.

Anyone know the circumference of a 26 wheel and a 650b wheel with tyres on? Could factor a % in then

    Cheers so far guys.

I’m going to be running a normal pro2 evo hub that’s been converted using a wolf tooth boostinator. As far as I’m aware this puts the cassette in the same place as a proper boost hub as it’s just the non drive side cap that gets replaced and you re-dish the wheel.

Not going to run plus sized tyres etc, just normal 650b tyres.

It’s going in an sb6c frame if that’s any help?

    Cheers
