Love the fact I’m being referred to as a beginner.

Agree with the comments about getting it working properly but, by the time I’ve paid someone to do it I’m considering including the upgrade too at the same time.

I’d like to do it myself but as has been pointed out its £40 for new seals etc first and it’s finding the time. I’m currently typing whilst entertaining my 6mnth old daughter plus am back at work Monday.

Yeh I always highly rated them ten years ago. Only got back into riding a couple of years ago and recommended them to my mate who got a bum deal from them. To be fair they did sort it out but it was the hassle. I felt really bad on my recommendation after that.

Right decision made, £225 fast upgrade it is. Is the top cap pink anodised like the ones on Google images?

Thanks again Tom. Think you’ve sold me on this upgrade, need to somehow get the permission slip stamped by the wife now lol

Don’t think I’m outside the main audience at all. I’m a slightly overweight bloke in his 30s who likes to ride trail centres and the peak District plus a week in France every other year. Raced a bit of DH a decade ago but I’m far from Gee Atherton. I did beat Tracey Moseleys time on a race in France one though which was my claim to fame lol.

I reckon I’m going to get them diagnosed then go from there.

Can anyone else restore my faith in TF-Tuned after my friends bad experience last year?

Cool cheers for that. Will probably send them in for a fault find but thinking about it like the idea of fast and slow speed compression adjustment.

Is there a completely new top cap then?

Tom you’re making this thread a bit heated matey, I’m asking for advice not an argument.

My forks are clearly not working right as the rebound isn’t a useful range.

I’m wandering if paying for this upgraded damping internals will necessarily fix the fault. Will tf-tuned find a fault first if there is one?

I used them ten years ago to PUSH tune a vanilla rc and the result was brilliant. Have had a friend use them recently and got a really poor service from them so I’m a bit wary.

I’m taking it the 225 option means I wouldn’t bother with bottomless tokens anymore as I can wind the high speed.compression up instead?

I thought that was on top of the service price. £160 is a lot more what I was thinking. Will have another read, cheers for that

Sod paying £300 for a service and new damper internals. I don’t really want more adjustment, just want the current ones to work in a use able range

No top out, and no extension when you pull in the bars. Presume you ate thinking about the negative air spring equalising issue that I’ve read about. Don’t think it’s the air spring, it’s the damper causing it I think.

No idea if they are due a service. Bought them used from the classifieds here

Thanks for confirming. What’s my options to sort it then folks?

Always used to use tf-tuned but that was 10 years ago…

    Who’s good?

Any damper. Upgrades I could just buy and bolt in myself?

    chilled76

About 80psi. For my weight it says 75-85 on the leg.

I’ve also removed two bottomless tokens so it only has 1 now. Previous rider had 3 in there.

Ha, cheers. I didn’t bother to Google this admittedly. And does anyone even make 200mm rotors? Thought 203mm was the standard, shimano don’t make 200 ones either.

Thanks, if it’s good for 200mm I’m happy with that, cheers.

When did shimano go 1:1 out of interest? That explains why their 11 speed shifter feel a lot more clunky like a sram one than their older kit.

Unfortunately 26″ kit market has dropped even for really nice kit.

I’d say £1000 tops. And you’ll probably have to wait a while to get a buyer at that price.

The road bikes a bit different as there hasn’t been new wheel sizes crop up pushing the rest of the market down.

I’ve had this with a shimano brake recently, changed the caliper and the lever in the end and still no better. I personally think you can bleed a shimano brake so that it feels like there is no air but even the tiniest amount of bl tiny tiny bubbles ruin their power.

    Cheers guys.

Next question, are Lyriks just 170mm pikes and can you retro fit the 170mm cartridge?

The dirt line is where I’ve just compressed them not the current sag.

Can anyone else confirm travel by looking at the exposed indicators?

Thanks. Sag indicator looks like this.

Do some of them just have holes through and longer bolts? In my head this is a better solution.

I got half way through this post in horror thinking you were taking more beer to bed with you for in the night ha!

    chilled76

Yes it’s post mount. Non of the adaptors say “rear” hence my confusion. Want one that comes with longer bolts if possible

    What’s your budget?

Patek Phillipe would be my choice of top end watches. The nautilus is on my wish list for a 40th present to myself

This is only for accelerating. Doesn’t really apply to touring bikes where you sit for long periods of time at the same speed.

Basically like flywheels, doesn’t affect how quick an engine can spin or the power it puts out, but a heavier flywheel takes longer and more energy to spin up.

Similarly a heavier wheel will want to keep rolling more over bumps than a lighter one.

Even a 5 minute.mile is flipping quick. 4 minute miles are elitist

Cheers guys, I’ll try torching the pads and rotor

    chilled76

Just done another bleed on this. Solid lever feel, full on thump as the pads hit the rotor but no power, really hard to even lock a wheel up.

Anyone got any idea? Fault in the lever/caliper maybe?

Ha. That’s actually really amusing as I’ve a colleague who gets himself a shandy when it’s his round so he can last the duration on a night out. He told me this once whilst about 8 pints in. My round next and whispered to get him a shandy. I of course got him a 6% beer and he proceeded to call me all the names under the sun for the rest of the evening!

A set of grips now cost as much as a whole cheap bike from halfords.

    chilled76

I run an xt lever on the left, slx lever on the right. Saint caliper front and zee on the rear. Shimano mineral oil for the front and halfords own brand on the back. Utterly 100% reliable. Recommend a similar set up.

Think I might make a carbon fibre one so I’m just that bit better than everyone else.

The hose popped off under the syringe pressure last night. Not only did I cover my garage (gym) floor in fluid it covered my wife (who is awesome and was helping) head to toe in mineral oil. Pretty comical but want to try and avoid a repeat.

I’ll try drilling something to replicate the tool. Cheers guys

That’s a great idea. Anyone know what size mm hole to drill?

Anyone moved away from shimano brakes that’s got one they would like to sell?

    chilled76

I tried a zip tie and it made it worse, because of the flat edge of where the zip tie head pressed against it it wasn’t circular around the hose and kind of pinched. You could see the air being drawn in.

Shock eyelets can creak sometimes. Does it do it if you sit on the saddle and bounce up and down?

Overtook a fat bloke up a hill who was on an e-bike a few months back. Had to resist making snide remarks at him.

Are you using cold lay macadam?

If so get a fire going so you can heat your spade. It’s really hard to work with in fact near on impossible if your spade isn’t red hot.
