Anyone got an 810 they want to sell? Or swap for a retro GT commuter bike I want rid of

So 810 has Bluetooth for post ride info/link to strava (my watch does this so my connect account is already linked to strava which is a good start) and for beacon function aswell then?

But it’s non-wifi, is that for downloading routes/gpx files to the unit?

Roughly how many routes can they hold? Is memory ever an issue on them?

Can I go out with a group and record a ride too that I can then use for directions if I go out again on my own?

    OK thanks guys,

Does the 810 not do wifi?

What makes the 1000 so much more expensive? Is it worth the extra?

Pretty sure they’ve sold out, had a good look for them.

How easy is it to get a route onto it/how do you do it? Is it easy to record the route (strava style) whilst simultaneously having it guide the route?

I used to run a nice on the rear and really didn’t rate the grip when putting power down on climbs… Used to wheelspin a lot.

Most of the old SDH crowd frequent here these days. It went to ride.io and with the rise of Facebook for organising events etc it went very ghost town. I used to moderate on there and really enjoyed it as a forum for years.

Jared graves used a stock one with 40s for an Australian DH race, worked ok for him…

Cheers guys. I was going to have a second brake already fitted so no set up faff either. Just unbolt front wheel and change the 15mm caps for 20mm ones, unbolt the brake at the bar and fit new forks.

Second question, if I fit fox 40s to a Yeti SB6c will I die?

Travo if you’re sure it will fit I’m keen. Will pm you

Think he’s getting fed up with emails hence sending me the order form

Hi Tom, yeh I was fiddling with the compression but ended up winding it pretty much off in an effort to get the fork more supple.

I’ve come home now and realised I probably need to run a lot less pressure in the air spring and have had a play with lower pressures… doh!

All good fun though. I really want more small bump sensitivity and that’s something I don’t think an air spring can give me without enough mid stroke support.

I’ve emailed Richard at CRCONCEPTION and he emailed back saying use the online order form… but it’s all in French and I can’t make head nor tail of it lol.

I’ll have to sit with Google translate and have a look a it.

Won’t be buying, the average property around there is silly expensive due to ski lift proximity etc.

I’m going to rent our house out if we go and rent an apartment.

It’s a salaried position so I’m not going to need paperwork for sorting our owning a business etc.

Cheers for info so far folks, it’s appreciated and the start of a lot of research.

Tom where are you based? I also have the FAST damper upgrade and after yesterday’s arm pump fiasco at BPW I’m keen to get a coil spring in mine, the small bump sensitivity of the air springs is dreadful!

OK so a few people have mentioned administration nightmares. Can anyone be more specific about what you mean by this?

Tax officials.. more info in this please?

I’m right at the start of looking so this is all really new to me and any information I can glean would be really helpful.

    Thanks again guys

Thanks guys. Keep the info coming please.

We’ve got a young baby (9 months) which is about the only thing making me hold back a bit. I guess if we stayed she’d grow up bi-lingual and go to French school.

Wife’s on the fence about it, I’m keen but also cropping myself at the prospect.

+5 for the Kask Rex. Just don’t buy the green one expecting it to be a nice bright green. It’s more like mushy pea green :-(

My advice/opinion then would be to start by truing all your existing wheels in a stand and get perfectionist on it. You can do it in a frame/fork but having a proper jig really helps and will allow you to fine tune what you are doing better.

Learn to feel spoke tension and what tightening and loosening spokes does to the wheel before starting to build. You can literally turn once and watch the rim move if you have it in a jig to help learn.

It’s a learning curve and best to learn by practicing. Getting sideways tru is easy enough but preventing egg takes a few more goes.

How much truing of wheels have you done? A childhood of riding trials and regularly re-truing wheels got me into it.

Lacing is easy enough and there’s some good youtube videos to help stop you doing anything too daft.

I was going to post something similar about this today after an experience last night.

I’ve always had a great snap to my riding and have found most people struggle to sprint with me or keep up on short punchy climbs (where raw power for short bursts wins). Can wind it up for a minute and drop people but then I’m spent.

Recently I’ve been going out for much longer rides and I’m definitely finding that balance changing, I’ve still got the bursts but not to the extent I did have before, but can definitely keep going longer and faster over a period of time than I used to.

In my experience there is definitely a loss of explosion when training longer rides and if you read some of the literature on training some sports science bods claim that fast twitch muscle fiber can convert to slow twitch given longer endurance training (would definitely explain my experiences with this).

Thanks for the input so far folks. Can’t say I’m not doing any of the above though.

I tend to have a fry up before a big ride (I find carb only breakfasts go through me too quick and having some slower release fat and protein with carbs keeps me fuller for longer).

Then about 2 hours into a ride I’ll have a jam and peanut butter sandwich with a tracker bar. Then about 1hr30 after that I’ll have a bar and a banana. Usually gets me through about 5 hours that way.

Then when I get home I have 4 egg whites in a smoothie with banana and almond milk (I can’t do dairy due to gut issues so whey protein is out).

Then a decent meal within an hour of that smoothie usually too.

What I can’t get my head around is why I’m getting it worse than I used to? Could it be to do with my weight loss?

    chilled76
    Free Member

Yeh I think I’m eating enough. I try and get something every 90 mins or so. On a 5 hour ride I’ll usually eat twice.

I’ve lost about a stone in the last 6 months and I’m wandering if reduced body fat might be contributing.

I’ll try more water but I don’t think it’s that. I tend to have a pint of water with an electrolyte tab as soon as I get home then a further pint across the next hour. Always drink plenty throughout the day too and have about 3/4 of a pint of water before bed every night.

My wife is 5ft1. She had an xs cotic bfe before it got nicked and with 100mm fork on that she absolutely ripped!

She’s now on a 15″ dialled bikes prince Albert and finds the reach a touch long but still really rates it.

I’d stay 26 and second hand if it were me, the extra weight of 650b tyres makes a difference in my opinion and at that size and weight it’s a bigger difference.

There is of course the benefit of not needing a spare wheel or faffing about changing tyres when using direct drive too.

I’m interested in this too and recomendations for a good dd one that doesn’t cost the earth. Moon on a stick?

Just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to all who chimed in with recommendations for saddles etc.

I picked up a nearly new ISM Adamo Prologue off of eBay last week for about £50.

Did a 50 miler this morning and it’s made soooo much difference!

No numbness totally comfortable and can really feel I’m only sat on my site bones..

Thank you, it’s literally saved my 2nd hobby as I thought I was going to have to ditch the road bike.

Have you removed the valve core? Makes a huge difference to getting the air in to seat it.

Buy one of the little brass Prestatyn adaptors and go use a garages compressor. If you take the core out that’ll inflate anything.

Haven’t read the whole thread so sorry if I’m repeating others..

Iaian, I converted 5 years ago for all of my bikes (except my road bike) including the wifes. I had my first puncture that didn’t seal itself about a month ago… in 5 years!

When I pulled the tyre off there was in excess of 20 thorns in it that had sealed never causing a puncture. The only reason it didn’t seal that time was I hadn’t topped the fluid up in 6 months.

It is literally in my opinion the best advancement in mtbs in the last 15 years along with dropper posts.

Punctures in the cold dark and wet are just no fun, so much so that the club I ride with every Tuesday night has pretty much banned people from riding with us if they are running tubes. Often in excess of 20 people out and we’ve had 2 punctures that I can recall across the whole group all winter. 1 of those was a guy who’s bike had come tubeless ready and he didn’t realise it had tubes in lol.

If you have proper tubeless rims and tyres then just pull the core out of the tubeless valve and use a compressor and they’ll generally go straight up unless your tyre is really baggy.

Agreed, pretty poor show to ride a charity event without a place. Certainly not something I’ll be doing.

Thinking if entering the peak epic instead maybe.

@smuttiesmith thanks for that, I’d heard so but I’m not training my arse off on a chance I might get an entry. The one thing that’s got me out when I really can’t be bothered recently is having this on the horizon and my training plan moving forward was pretty brutal.. not something I’m doing on a chance of an entry. I’m going to spend a year riding and losing weight with the view of entering again next year.
