Ian that tss is based on heart rate and time.

5 of those hours were lugging an Enduro bike around 50 miles of Wales with draggy tyres and hills with 2 guys who are inherently faster than me. About 4 hours of this my h.r was close to lactate threshold. The other 2 hours earlier in the week were quite hard on the same bike too.

Basically 7 hours of hard work hence the high TSS in comparison to the 9 hour week when more of that was at z2 etc.

All over, lower half of quads the worst.

    TSS reverse order

818- Last week. That might just answer my question, recovery week needed I guess.
    637
659- this was the supposed recovery week, there was a really intense session in that week of 3.5 hours.
145- was 5 hours, did some strict z2

    Cheers Terry.

Yeh I’m eating a bit below maintenance. Done a few high intensity rides, but didn’t think it was that much of my overall volume in the last month.

    Legs feel wrecked!

Should I just rest until this coming Saturdays big ride?

No I’m not- never have, I’m guessing you are going to recommend this. Does it help?

39 here. Mine goes up to about 55-60 when de-conditioned.

A lot of school of thought now is the NHS 60-100 is way out for healthy individuals, Imagine having a RHR of 100, that would be more of a concern to me than mid-high 40’s!

I would say if you are in the 40’s you should get checked out if you don’t train/ride/run much though as low HR’s like that are either a sign you’ve got lots of extra stroke volume from heart development and more red blood cells so your heart can deliver more oxygen when riding/running- meaning it doesn’t need to pump that fast when at rest, or a sign something could be wrong.

Cheers guys. Bought a Vivoactive 3 in the end. Got a good deal at Halfords as they were knocking them out cheap and they did me BC discount. £148… cost swayed it over other options.

Read the fenix series are really bulky. There’s so many bloody functions.on these things I can’t work.out the differences. What would one of them do extra?

I’ve ended up deciding on the big bike. Fitted smaller faster rolling tyres though as the DHR/DHF WT are a hell of a drag.

Gone for a 2.3 aggressor/highroller combo and will bear the bigger weight on the climbs for a comfier day out.

I’m getting conflicting opinions about this elsewhere- can anyone else offer an opinion/advice?

If I had a 120mm full suss I’d take that. 50 miles and 6000ft on the big bike feels a lot, but also don’t want to suffer descending on the xc hardtail if some of it is pretty rough.

I’ll have a look on that forum, cheers Tired.

Kryton… if it’s unused it’s likely out of my price range at the min.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. Cheers for the advice all.

Averaged 21mph on a hilly course in 30mph winds with no aero bars etc, very happy with that for a first bash, saw me under 45 mins which was my goal before going.

Appreciate all the tips on pacing, really helped! Felt like I got that bit bang on.

P.s. anyone got a tt bike for sale? 😂

Thanks for that, I thought going to hard to early will probably be a thing I do- I always do that on FTP tests!

Any thought on whether to keep it constant or blow up a bit on climbs and recover on downs?

    It’s 3 x laps of a 5 mile circuit.

I run Thunder Burts on my XC bike. Rapid for fire roads etc, but next to no grip in mud or in sloppy corners.

How comfortable are you with a little wheel drift?

Won’t find a faster mtb tyre on the road IMHO.

Also worth noticing I keep tubless sealant regularly topped up as they puncture and spray most rides- never had one not seal, but they are very flimsy!

To be fair it’s got everyone talking about their upcoming product release… which was the aim of this marketing campaign.

In protest we should all just stop talking about it and ignore whatever it is when it has been released!

As above get the dt rims.

Personally I’d swap the hope pro4s out for some dt350 hubs too. Better freehub mechanism and just better hubs imho for similair money.

I’ve used the dropper in the past, I now run a 170mm dropper slammed all the way in on my all mountain bike. It leaves just the collar and its fallen out twice whilst working on it. Another time I put the seat down and it slipped pulling the seat up and ended up having to re-bleed the post.

    any other ideas?

Ardent race looks decent, side lugs a bit smaller than a razor but it’ll do nicely if no one gives a better suggestion.

    Thanks

I can. I’ve ordered a hope bottom cup. Figure I can see if it runs freely before fitting the cup to the frame. Send the headset back if the fork is the issue.

    chilled76

Yes. You can see the lip and a tiny score on the anodising of the steerer.

It’s a 44mm head tube and it’s like the superstar one doesn’t sit the bearing proud enough. But it could be these new forks don’t taper soon enough (manufacturing issue).

Feel like you just mind f****d me into riding slower. Are you doing Ard rock? Is this phsycological warfare?

    chilled76

No, it’s hydrophobic. Main advantage of mineral oil over dot fluid which is hysroscopic. Basically it doesnt absorb water from the atmosphere. Thats how fluid degrades.

Is guess if you left it on a shelf in direct sunlight it could also degrade over time, but generally no it doesnt.

If its anything like my Tac X Vortex its very temperature dependent. I find it over reads in warm weather and under reads in cold weather
