Yeh I cant get my head around how the weight of 4 bikes going over bumps waggling on the back of the car doesnt gradually cause it to slip.

Its actually stopped me buying one…

    Thread hijack…

Do these clamp round the ball part?

    Don’t they slip and rotate?

That 10 watts is a significant amount when doubled for both wheels.

I ride gatorakins at the minute as I had a spate where I kept gwtting punctures last autumn and i just left them on.

Theyve nearly had me off twice in the wet, but I’ve never had a puncture since I fitted them.

Thanks gents, those howling moon ones look just the job. How do they work… as in what’s involved in pulling them out and putting them back?

Cheers guys. The cars with roof bars must be about 6ft and I’m only 5ft10. It’s for when we are camping for a weekend with the wee tent, if it rains we can cook and eat under it. Won’t use it when we’ve got the big tent.

It’s an interim measure until we can afford a VW Crafter and a doner caravan to butcher :-)

Ti ring with inlaid silver here. Wanted inlaid platinum but was told that it doesn’t have enough of a contrasting colour the silver is a sharper silver than the slightly grey ti colour (platinum is a similair tone to the ti).

I’d forgotten all about the “can’t be cut off” bollocks.

I like it as when I weight train it doesn’t scratch or bend as easily as a softer metal would. It’s also very light, which a similair size platinum one wouldn’t be (9mm wide and about 3mm deep). I’d also have to pay about 2.5k for a platinum ring that size.

I wouldn’t give it a second thought, get the one you like. I had trouble getting my head around how cheap mine was, but in the end came to the conclusion that it didn’t matter, it was the event of my wife giving it me that gives it value. Because of this it is the most valuable material possession I have in my life.

Ok guys, need a general opinion on this before throwing more money at my Pikes.

I bought a set of used pike forked 160mm 650b flavour a while back,

The damping was spiking so I sent to tf tuned and ended up having the full FAST upgrade done and had to have a new air shaft so already spent 300 on them.

To me they don’t feel up to my bike in terms of performance (sb6c) and I’m considering selling them and getting a 170mm Lyrik.

I reckon with selling the pikes a Lyrik will cost me £350

What do we think will be a better fork for my bike in the alps

PIKE 160MM With FAST upgrade and coil conversion

    Or

LYRIK 170mm stock fork (2017 model)

I don’t want to spend more money on them if the chassis is the real issue here…

    What’s the crowd opinion?

You’ve done exactly what the spacers are designed for.

Lower volume chamber needs less pressure as there is less air to squash.

Makes the stroke supple but ramp up quicker. Less linear travel.

Prob better on small bumps but not mid sized hits.

Coil vanilla rc with custom PUSH tune for tf tuned. That’s was a decade ago and nothing I’ve ridden since comes close!

Cheers guys. I’m hoping looking at the x-ray it’s not too complicated. Although I’m in agony this evening.

    On the codeine tonight!

Theres a GCN video where they take that giant e2 out on a fairly big ride. Trounced the normal road bike

I find the beaver a lot draggy on the rear, you mention not a lot of difference… any difference in how well it rolls not just grip?

Can you show me a 1500g slack carbon hardtail?

    chilled76

    Maybe not plus but 26 x 2.6

I’ve got a really racey xc hardtail already and I’ve got the parts bar a frame to build a hardcore fun hardtails except for a frame and headset.

Some of the parts are kind of midweight so I don’t want to add a really heavy frame and end up with a porker.

It’s going to have a 26″ 160mm Lyrik on it and stans flow rims with big tyres.

Transition Throttle… hmmmm £1800 for a hardtails frame, thanks but that’s waaaay over budget!

Cheers, I’ll look at nukeproof, anyone else experienced xt lasting longer?

    chilled76

If you are doing that kind of mileage in a month or 2 then it won’t just be your pedals needing some servicing

    Thanks for that. Really helpful.

Spent a whole day doing maintenance on 4 bikes 2 weeks ago. Swapping a bottom bracket today. Bled a set of brakes mid week.

Servicing pedals is one job too much, hence my original question about if the xt ones last longer than DX?

Dropping the outside pedal when cornering harder and putting more weight through the outside pedal. Means if the bike breaks away you go with it rather than the wheels coming out from under you.

First ride in today (I’ve done it a few time in the past but not as a regular thing).

Went well, had one very close pass by some twonk in a Vauxhall Calibra (think that says enough about them really).

Had the 6pack on low and didn’t seem to get any complaints although it was dusk not dark.

The mountain bike was only about 10 minutes slower than the road bike for the same journey compared to when I’ve ridden it in the past and I was taking it pretty easy. Think I’m going to be enjoying this!

One minor hiccup was I brought my wife’s door keys by accident so had to get a member of site staff to break into my locker. 5:15am get up clearly doesn’t agree with me for coherent thinking!

Might get a pro viz jacket and point my 6pack back at me

    (I am of course joking)

When your drenched and have no dry spot on you smile. When your filtering through car after car stuck at the lights smile, when the sun’s shining and you’ve no backpack and you turn towards the hills instead of your house on the way home smile

    I’ll remember this. Thanks :-)

It’s about 9 miles each way depending which way I go.

I’ve been enjoying just riding over the summer, getting back to structure from next week as I’m back to work tomorrow.

Think I’ve put some weight on too having had a few holidays on the last 4 weeks.

2 steps forward 1 step backwards. Onwards and upwards though!

Ok I’ve listened to the no 6pack, and just nipped to leisure lakes and come back with an exposure trace pack and a red eye to go with my joystick.

Will probably have the 6 pack on the bars anyway for when I decide to have some fun on the way home.

Thanks for the tyre recommendations guys but as I said I’m going to use my xc race type bike this winter to keep my road bike nice and also because I won’t get punctures (half a pint of stans anyone?).

Really like the look of the proviz backpacks but £70!!!!!

    chilled76

Thanks but I’m prob not going to listen. It’s a £400 front light and I’m loathe to buy a cheaper one when this one does everything I need it to do and I need to spend cash on other kit.

I can run it on a low setting amyway which will get a weeks worth of riding out of between charges.

Cheers so far. Already got strava, northwave celcius boots and mudguards.

Commuting on the xc race type bike through the winter as it’s only 8 miles each way and I’ve got 2.0 tyres full of stans so punctures ‘shouldn’t be an issue.

    Sense of humour noted.

Any recommendations on very waterproof and reflective back.packs?

Edit.. Cheers will check.out the lomo

Yep xc 4. Closed lever, the dial on the top is so you can alter contact point as pads wear. Old school!

If I was to 2.5 are there any older frames that can cope that I could pick up second hand?

Preferably something not too heavy too.

    chilled76

I’d say racing ralph 2.25. Lightweight, fast rolling and grip really well for such a lightweight tyre.
