Jase how abnormal is the HR reading your getting? high 200's or low 200's. Iv never really used a HR monitor before and the 4 times iv used it i have peaked at 202bpm so not unusual if your are pushing yourself.

    Hi Surfr,

I got a Garmin edge 500 a few weeks back off ebay, as for the grid question i have yet to find a function that allows you to see your current grid reference, and as for the mount its hold up really well and once its in thats it.

I use it for training purposes so does the job for me.

Great News!!!!! i for one have missed ay-up since they left last year so this must mean a demand in kit so lets hope they stay around longer this time.

Barney yes the Ay Pod does look good and already on my shopping list when they start.

That was brutal to say the least, every bit of downhill punished by long fire roads but the world cup decent was the only one i remember out of all the singletracks because it was awsome 🙂

Someone said it was 80% Forest road and 20% singletrack 😯 so in the end i was just happy to finish and start the post ride party last night 8)

Now im off to strip down my bike in an attempt to clean all that mud 🙄

Tomorrow looks better but as for today and tonight…….

    Today:
A mainly dry start but it won't be long before showers develop, becoming widespread and often heavy by lunchtime, with thunder likely. These are expected to continue through the afternoon then, perhaps becoming most concentrated across central Wales by dusk. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

    Tonight:
Heavy showers continuing for many places at first, gradually become confined to southeast Wales later in the night and clearing most places by dawn. Clear spells developing away from showers.

From todays update at the bottom

Ranger's will be onsite this weekend continuing to clear the trails on fallen trees/branches etc. This will be the last blog update for a few days but you can always call the duty ranger on 07834 435380 to get the very latest on the trail conditions.
If you are looking for alternative trails to ride, the 7stanes trails at Mabie and Dalbeattie are clear of snow and riding well, as are most of the trails at Ae. These 3 trail centres are within 1.5hrs drive from Glentress and the Tweed Valley.
    Cheers,
    andy (mtb ranger)

Well that was my most enjoyable race so far (only done 2 😀 ) after 10 months off the Bike in 2009 and hardly any training during 2010 and to come in with a time of 4hrs 39min and 294th i was more than happy.

Anyone knows who was doing the photos today?

The Garmin Edge 500 only came to light at the Eurobike 2009, its designed more for training than navigation purposes.

''Sharpen your cycling performance with Edge 500, a lightweight GPS-based cycling computer for performance-driven cyclists. Loaded with data, Edge 500 tracks your distance, speed, location and elevation with high sensitivity GPS. Add an ANT+™ compatible heart rate monitor, speed/cadence sensor or compatible power meter for a finely-tuned analysis of your ride.''

Id say Inspired to. Its no easy thing to do and to complete it is an achievment in itself and something to be proud of and one of those tick in the boxes regarding Mountain Biking achievments. Hopefully i will get on the 2011 one, think August 2010 after knee surgery is a bit to early.

    Good luck mate.

Always had great delivery, and remember most orders are royal mail 1st class so a small delay is nothing unusual.

If had the RQ 2.4’s on my bike for over a year and find them FANTASTIC in all weathers, plenty of grip in the corners and never yet had a puncture since iv had them. The clearence on my old forks was not great and neither was it any better on the rear where if the PSI was 40 they were touching the frame so run both on 30 PSI but still cloggs slightly on the rear but no major drama there.
