well, you have but for 5k max

Nope – risk is higher if its worth more so they won’t pay a penny.

    a 5.6k bike in a shed!!

An asguard bike storage shed – hard as nails!

I think we’ve established quite quickly that this forum is ‘the hard place’

    No change there then.

    Had a chat with pedalcover?

Yes, they wouldn’t insure due to the 2 claims and couldn’t suggest an alternative…

have you considered selling it for the short to medium term ??

Yes, but was hoping the STW collective would come up with an alternative insurance option. Would only get half the value if i sold it and besides – if i’m out of work then i’d have loads of time to ride it!

    A 5.6k Bike !!!!!

    Yep, you’d be surprised.

It sounds like you are minted

If i was i wouldn’t be worried about insurance!

Would YOU insure someone who’d claimed twice recently for over £10k, on bikes?
Out of interest, how much was last years house contents premium, ie are you in a real 5h1t area?

Probably not. No, good area, just in a city where a bad area is never far away.
Thanks to those who’ve tried to help…. I’ll sort something out!

One summer hockey tour one of our female players was called “Milk Tray”. I had to ask why and thankfully i didn’t ask the girl in question because Milk Tray = box full of assorted creams. 😯

I was at Glasgow High Court last week as a potential juror on a rape case where the defendants special plea was “Consent by both parties”.

Jury was picked and it was 13 men and 2 women. Straight away all the women in the non-selected jurors area starting quietly muttering about the fact that it was therefore biased towards the man (defendant).

I wasn’t selected as a juror (thankfully) so don’t know how the case turned out but i can imagine there must be loads of cases like this where proof is hard to come by and the result of the case could rest upon the split of woman/men.

Obviously there must have been some alleged proof otherwise the case wouldn’t have made it to court but i still think these types of cases must be a nightmare for all (innocent) parties involved.

Found a Cannondale Tango 7 27.5 2015 in a large at a local shop which is discounted by 37% to £283…. Might be worth a try. Anyone any knowledge of this model? I know at that price it’ll be basic but that’s all we really need.

Thanks for all the input…. Think a ladies specific is the way to go. Just need to choose one now!

I have a brand new unused Koala that I bought recently for doing the West Highland Way and ended up not using. I was going to post it for sale anyway. It’s yellow and yours for £60 including postage?

We’ve got an F31 330d. Best (BMW) car we’ve ever had and i’ve had a Z4 Coupe / M3 Coupe and an X5. Handles brilliantly, masses of power and practical equivalent of the saloon. As stated above, tailgate window opening when bike rake on towbar is a superb feature.

We also had an older E91 320i. The new F31 equivalent is miles better.

I also think the estate is far better looking than the saloon.

I have an SRAM X-7 rear deraillieur…. Is the X-9 equivalent clutched? If so, then narrow/wide chain ring, shorter bolts and I’m sorted?

otsdr – what chain guide did you get? Any recommendations?

    chief1409

Cheers otsdr. Think I’ll get a chain guide. Some of the roads i cycle are very traffic congested and and small chain incident could lead to horribleness in the extreme.

Going to go for a 38T or 40T i think…. Do i really need a chain guide if its a road commute? Just the odd bump or two? Its not a clutch mech.
Final daft question – Shimano Deore (from 2009) triple has 104mm bolt circle right?

I commute from Cambuslang into Glasgow daily. Only 10km each way but more than half is along the side of the River Clyde and through Glasgow Green away from the cars.
It still amazes me how much wildlife is down there. A couple of weeks ago I saw an otter on the cycle path and this was only a mile from the city centre of Glasgow. I was also buzzed by an owl about 100 yards from my house a few weeks ago.
The old river is certainly a much nicer place than it used to be!

Thanks hora. Greed is not the term i’d use – glad to see your usual use of subtlety is still at play!
The whole reason for this venture is to fund my father-in-laws purchase of a Morris Traveller which is even rarer (and far more expensive). The current Morris will go to a collector as its in excellent condition.
Ideally if we can get a bit more for the car with the plate on it, rather than splitting the two and only getting a marginal gain, then we’ll go down that route.

Cheers loxy – thats the kind of answer i was looking for!

Yes, its MOTd so no problems there. Just had a look at the next DVLA registration auction and the reserve prices quoted suggest double is not too far off.

Also, in NI all normal number plates are letters then numbers e.g. abc 1234 or xyz 78 etc. Having numbers before letters may float someones boat….
TBH i don’t really understand how these plates can command such a price but I’m not going to argue if my father-in-law can benefit from it.

Absolutely. Maybe my question should be reworded as – what mark-up do these companies typically aim for? That would give me a better estimate of average market value. Obviously, its worth a lot more to some people than others if you are looking at the letters only. However, it does effectively say IOU XS which someone of a certain extrovert(?) nature may like too…

    Economy.

Yes to long journeys but no to short ones in town, you’ll be clogging DPF’s and cursing it before long.

Higher up front cost plus all the maintenance associated with poor running conditions means petrol all the way for you.
My wife had one and she loved it. We had the 170ps diesel version and it was fast and felt more like a car to drive than a SUV-lite…
We sold it as it was too small for the impending young family (with pram/buggy etc.).
The day before we traded it in the engine management light came on – DPF was blocked. Cost north of £1400 to fix IIRC – thankfully still under warranty. High cost was because they needed to remove the gearbox 😯 just to get to the filter so high labour costs.
I was told that lots of short journeys means the DPF blocks up quicker as more particulates produced when engine is cold than when at running temp.

I grew up in a house with dogs – 2 Samoyeds, then a Border Collie Cross and I really miss not having a dog around now i’m all grown up with a wife and two kids!
I’d have a dog in a second but i work full time and my wife works Mon-Wed so until i persuade her to give up work (she is a teacher and earns barely more than it costs for the child care) its not going to happen unless we can arrange some sort of dog share with our neighbours who happen to be good friends and also pondering a dog too.
Anyone got any experience of this sort of thing? Its not shared ownership or anything close but just taking each others dogs out for walks (neighbour works Wed-Fri so there’s chat of sharing Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri walks with a Wed sorted by my mother who is here…). All sounds fine in principle but just wondered what peoples thoughts were?
    Apologies for the thread hijack!

So, after the responses i popped my bike-park-cherry last Monday night and going again tonight so needless to say i enjoyed it. Only fell off twice – once a comedy fall whilst trying a manual and misjudging just how light the front end is and flipping right over backwards!
I was absolutely knackered after it too – defo going to help the upper body fitness. Cheers for the input troops!

Car aircon – same as above. WHen she is too warm/cold she sets it to max/min, takes it off auto control and sets both sides of the car set at completely different temperatures despite Mrs Chief being in the car on her own all day.

Wood burning stove – I’ve explained to her how the air dampers work pretty much every cold day for the last two years. She still gets it wrong (she lights it before i get home from work) resulting in very poor draft / a lot of smoke and then she opens the front door letting all the smoke into the house and then complains to me that the stove is rubbish.

My wife currently has 3,167 unread emails on the ipad. And wants a new one cos the “old” ipad 2 is too slow. 😯

Our office aircon has had an engineer out at it 3 out of last 5 days because people keep mucking about with it.

Glad to see its not just me!

Badboy 700 from 2009 here and use it for commuting duties on road, cycle paths only. Heavier than it looks (for me thats perfect as means i get some serious training in benefiting my mtb riding) but otherwise mine has been bombproof.
I’d imagine it’d be very harsh offroad so would consider something else, but if all on road and no suspension required then its great.

twinw4ll – yes, it is big. Open plan kitchen, dining and living area. I should’ve said we use mix of the stove and underfloor heating. The underfloor just takes the edge off really (at least that’s the way I’ve got it set up) and the stove provides the bulk of the heat. I’d put in a bigger one if i was relying on the stove alone but not sure I’d go as far as 13kW!

Saturday night 1 had 2 bottles of wine and 4 bacardi and cokes and a glass of champagne, from 7pm and finishing at midnight.

I reckon thats about 25 units.

10am sunday I blew a breath tester before driving home 😯

Ecofans are good but only really required (AFAIK) if you have a radiant stove and the heat is local to the stove as described above. If you get a convector type stove (usually slightly more £££) then the room heat is much more even.

I’d say the Jotul F100 will be fine. We’ve had a couple of different stoves and the 5kW nominal stoves are perfect for “rooms” i.e. a normal room with a normal doorway to rest of the house. Any bigger and you’ll end up far too warm and have to “sit in your pants” as stated above.
If you intend to use it to heat the house then go for the bigger one but be prepared to be sitting in a room like a furnace when at full pelt.
We have a nominal 7kW stove in a room thats 80m² but is also open plan to the rest of the old and draughty victorian house and its plenty warm.
