Most generations and countries have had a “peoples Car”. What have we got in the EV world and how much?

Not really just more hardpack with slightly bigger humps and the odd bit of woodwork.

    Hurrah for progress

Boris and the Trumper brought blond hair into disrepute. She hasn’t help dispel the myth of the blonde bimbo/airhead.

The lettuce thing was cute but she’s more of a turnip or swede to me. Some kind of root vegetable kids would stick glass eyes into. Then when bored, kick it round the garden until it’s smashed to pieces.

I wasn’t impressed with their last efforts. Some of it was a bit weird and didn’t work/flow all that well.

    The new natural selection blacks

My ears pricked up at that. It’s what Degla badly needs, something other than hardpack! A few arse puckering signature features wouldn’t go a miss either. If they are clever about it, they could make the splits so you choose off-piste type trails or hardpack sections. So you choose off-piste types trails when it’s dry or split off and do the standard hardpack sections when it’s wet or the mood takes you. It could be the perfect trail centre where you do a different mix of options every visit.

The biggest drop used to be the one on the seemingly always deserted freeride track. TBH it’s not a big deal so some proper drops would be nice.

I suppose allrounder is a bad word really. I’d say the Mary is a great allrounder because it can do everything, adequately.

^^^^Yup that’s it in a nutshell and it’s not a fast rolling tyre by any means. If I was a hardpack fiend (I’m not localish riding is slippy as **** in anything other than bluebird conditions) I would probably run DHF and XR4 type treads because they roll faster and can handle a smattering of slop.

Unfortunately the best riding in North Wales is a bit secret squirrel on a need to know basis!

Yeah as I thought. I suppose it’s partly for practical reasons, in that if it was a game of legislative tennis, it would make a mockery of the system.

So the idea (repeated on this very forum) that governments of different stripes reverse everything once in power is a fantasy. My experience is they usually pick up the baton and carry on with things, taking credit for the good and blaming the other **** for anything bad/unpopular until it’s forgotten about.

Remember this when they get a foot in the door, we are pretty much stuck with it for generations.

Get an SUV, they’re very popular

Make sure it’s at least a v8 for the lolz.

Better yet get a lifestyle vehicle and start a YouTube travel channel hawking hoodies and shizzle as your side hustle.

What surprises me is how governments and businesses have endless ways of making things cost more, or make things that were free cost something. It’s only a few quid here and there after all and in this case it obviously won’t stop people going!

I do wonder if the everythings too cheap people of the internet. Bid against themselves on ebay or pay more than people are asking in shops or any other auction. This notion of wanting to pay more for things all the time is weird to say the least and smacks of stupidity or vested interests.

Ooo don’t I’ve had my eye on them for a while and heard nothing but good things about them.

Trouble is both my bikes have brakes that work, ispec mounted shifters, use the same pads and Shimano rotors that are in good condition. Work in the Shimano way, need bleeding more often than I deem as acceptable/normal though.

Us Brits in an act of solidarity just close the curtains, shout at Alexa to turn the heating up in our forever homes, curled up on the sofa under a slanket next to our rescue dogs for a Disney+ binge.

Or indulge in some self congratulatory back patting.

Am I also right in thinking many fork lowers are magnesium still?

Yeah some are. Managed to crack some old Fox one’s next to the arch/bridge. When I took them off, to replace them, they fell apart like wet chipboard, crumbled in an almost granular way!

Any chance we can get some real world feedback off you lot? After you’ve got your setups sorted and ridden a bit, with reference to what you’re comparing them to. Not asking for much like ;) I’ve heard these brakes are about as good as you can get without spending silly money.

Has not been working as it previously did. Seems better now.

I did use the browsers console to tame some of it’s unhelpfulness!

As I understand it the rag trade is for the most part a high volume industry even at the medium to lower end. If you are not shifting massive amounts of stock, it’s bloody expensive to get anything made, similar to small batch engineering work.

I watched a thing which followed a prominent female owner of a manufacturing facility and to say she was shrewd was an understatement! If you’re a small fish, she/her team wouldn’t even entertain your makeshift enquiry. Never mind some influencer/blagger bowling up with some back of a fag packet ideas of building a clothing brand. There are middlemen who deal with these people and trouser a premium for the privilege, with the idiots getting pennies or making a loss. It’s that real world again isn’t it!

“Premium Product” everyone is selling premium now-a-days, not to mention premium stuff being just the the stuff that hasn’t been so cost reduced it’s barley fit for purpose and in some cases isn’t. LMFAO talk about being nudged, the word premium used and abused to the point of being meaningless!

This is almost as good as the great Camping Mule/Slippers debate of 2018 on Middleclassbuyingdecsionsworld.

    Such gems as:

What’s wrong with keeping my carpets clean

Slippers aren’t just for old people

Images of famous mountaineers wearing them on expeditions to the attic room.

I can’t remember who won! I believe the camping mule team, sponsored by The North Face, went on to create the Don’t **** Judge Me political party. They produced the definitive white paper Redefining Perceptions and Reframing the Narrative. Their activism efforts moved on to the important debate about the perception of shawl wearers in the modern world.

I’d recommend the Culvert Mids as one of the best UK weather flat pedal shoes for the money. Tie the laces up and stash them in the tongue pocket, then all you have to do is use the velcro strap when putting them on. I much prefer them to Freerider Elements (sole to thin, leak like a sieve) and the big biffer of a shoe, old version of Impacts. Those things suck up most of the trail, as well as all the water on it. Are a bit numb feeling on the pedal but grip like shit to a blanket. I reckon you could soak up a pond full of water with just one shoe!

AFAIK the Camber shoes have a less sticky Michelin sole than Culverts. The similar looking Semunuk’s also have another different sole. Get the Culverts! I went 1/2 a size up and they are the best bike shoes I’ve had by some margin!

True, but most people have better judgement (and better things to do with their time) than put it on YT.

It’s a modern paradox. Too much time alone on the internet to embrace the silliness, almost unchallenged (you can delete comments) and free from the majority of the shaming that happens in real life.

I don’t recommend many things and when I do they are usually reasonably priced and do the job there supposed to do, to a decent standard. I would file the following in the expensive for what they are but nice to have section!

My top 3 in no particular order are:

    – Oury Lockon. Feel plush.
    – Ergon GA2 Fat. Good tapered shape bit harder compound.
    – ODI Elite Pro. Slightly slimmer ovalised shape which will most likely suit more people than the other two.

There are fatter grips than all of the above from other manufacturers!

SUV’s are attempt to make the blow of owning an MPV (eurgh based on a van darling) more cool. Look I got a pretend off road car sport thingy. Did I mention Sports, yes I do sports.

Add in 80k worth (Polestar) of environment saving. As you pull onto your drive the neighbours will be out to give you a standing ovation, maybe pots and pans, as a national hero doing your bit for the greater good.

The OP responded with additional information after I responded to your post. The goalposts have moved!

Top up the jack oil first, if possible and it it works. New seals if cheaper than a 2 ton scissor jack (cheap and easy to buy) that won’t need servicing ever again. But he will still need better leverage to undo the studs than the provided brace.
