    140mm Slant it is then.

@mtbel it’s the lightest bike I’ve ever had  mind you my previous bikes have been pretty brutal things! It’s not XC race bike light for sure, but for a steel frame it’s strength to weight ratio seems bob on and it’s not overly heavy compared to other steel frames I’ve put my hands on, so no complaints on that front from me :-)

I’m not convinced the geometry is right for the bigger forks though.

Yup nearly squished 6 of em, at it on a DH section, luckily I saw them before an amphibian splatter massacre, was close though 8O

You need to work out which is narrower i.e. the distance between bolt holes in the frame or the distance between the bolt holes in caliper. Narrower is IS mount and wider is usually Post Mount. You will need an adapter for one to the other, whichever way round it is i.e. there are 2 different adapters!

IS caliper to Post Mount frame is the awkward way round! which will limit the size of rotor plus the adapter costs slightly more. KCNC and Hope do one if thats the case.

@ jambalaya yeah cheers, more travel on the downs is more important to me than the slight loss of climbing ability. 140 is looking like the best all-rounder for fixed and seems to be what the frame was optimised for, despite it being capable of housing a 160mm fork, seems that way anyway.

I’ve noticed the bottom bracket is quite high @ 150mm (jacked up) compared to other bikes in my stable.

I know it’s possible thats why RS/SRAM will get no more money from me ever, unless they become a monopoly!

So your recommendations then (really important to me honestly) other than SRAM/RS of course? I know your Revs are totes amazeballs.

@Northwind can’t wait to have a debate over what constitutes “ridden too hard” and “adequately cared for” given it’s a long travel fork……oh hang on a min what is the correct definition of long travel? this could be fun so much fun.

Those Slants seem a similar spec, broader stanchions, tick most of the boxes.

Will most likely go for them, cheers :-)

Rave reviews for middle of the range value for money, not outright performance.

Nothing on longevity which from my experience is shite.

It is visually challenging  will probably be fun to ride though and a better chance of getting a straight one than a Ragley, although maybe they’ve finally solved it for the 2015, 2016, 2017……range

    @LHS

As long as your happy with the increased costs of this efficiency/profit margin coming out of your pocket when you use the services.

But hey we have accepted it across the utilities market and railways and what a resounding success thats been! still heavily subsidised, inefficient and guess what more expensive. I bet it’s just coincidental that MRSA was rife when contract cleaners were introduced to the NHS, oh and the rather large fraud that G4S got away with.

I think it’s fair to say your average punter does not feel value for money has been delivered, paying higher prices for the same services, who’s infrastructure was publicly funded in the first place and still quietly subsidised, with all the boys getting a nice buttie off the back of it.

That doesn’t look very nice (the new one that is).

What you don’t like the modern wonky chopper look? how else do you think they get those big forks in there!

To be fair British governments have been juggling water, managing Britain’s decline for the last 30-40 years, with the shift in world power and our diminished grip on the allocation of resources, it’s really starting to hit home now. I agree the chronic complacency, short termism, lack of investment for the future, selling assets in bent deals for peanuts, bribing the electorate with market bubbles and unsustainable white elephants, has made the impact of these things much worse.

The adjustments over the coming decades are going to be brutal, with us the populace paying more for less of everything. Don’t bank on any state percs or the privileged lifestyle our older generation has become accustomed to, we won’t get any of it.

Should we forgive maybe, forget no, but they were not the only villains in this.

More the direct control over exports from colonies/oversees interests, which were very much a contributing factor to Britons growth and we no longer enjoy to the same extent as top tier recipients.

I’ve got 740 but it feels as though 760 would suit me best and that sums it up really, what ever feels best to you. Generally wider = slower, narrower = faster, steering that is, both of which can make things worse or better!

I would never stick the bar on/thru/to the wheels thou regardless of size

@dazh interesting experience. I’ve often asked Psychology students how they come to terms with their own personality, given they understand established conditions/symptoms and the majority of us have what are often described as character flaws!

Been rolling around on Onza Ibex, Dual Ply, triple compound, 2.4 front and Kenda Kinetics 2.35 front on the rear 8O, certainly not fast rolling but grips well in all but the worst slop that would give mud tyres a hard time.

Nope, but an extra spacer under your stem might have you less crouched over and relieve the back pain, worked for me!

The short stem thing is not a panacea and only works with a frame geometry thats suitable, usually in tandem with a wide bar and a frame that’s not already short in top tube/reach department for your body size. You can make things worse and end up with hectic nervous handling.

Who’d av thought it, the independent judiciary influenced by government, what next laws made at financial institutions/corporations/US interests behest, long established tax systems allowing our betters to reduce their bills to zero, politicians lying to appeal to the broadest cross section of voters, paying lip service to real issues and implementing laws to suit their sponsors agenda.

Burn all the parties HQ’s down, they don’t listen to violence do they, oh except they do don’t they, in fact it’s what they most fear, a mass rebellion and hence discourage/divide/distract at every opportunity, even though the state is the biggest bully on the block, wielding the stick when it see’s fit both here and abroad.

History has proved over and over that human struggle has been necessary to get where we are. Going backwards seems to suit some though and undoubtedly there will be opportunists who take advantage along the way.

Yup peeps should just use their right of way! I’ve lost count of the amount of dangerous indecision I’ve seen over the years.

My pet peeve is when someone stops on a dual carriageway flashing you out of a side road (except in stop start nose to tail where it can help), when they have no control over the other lanes, they be stopped and no one else gives a ****.

@soulwood – they would say that wouldn’t they, saves them the hassle of dealing with a recall/mass warranty returns and not the first time I’ve heard a manufacturer pull the stunt, followed by product revisions where the problem miraculously disappears i.e. gets quietly fixed.

I’ve got the same problem with Sektors (it’s not the headset or disc bolts), appears to be more than a single isolated incident when you search around.

Not all are created equal! having said that I’d still say most of the MTB gear is also overpriced. Putting MTB on it seems to add at least a 20% fashion tax often much more, with marginal to no increases in quality.

Won’t be long before they are vetting customers like Studio 54 :D

Bout 6 months old, LBS’s keep trying to make me feel bad about it, while trying to sell me 2 grand frames from the brands they have the biggest margin on!! and that I will never be able to get new wheels or a fork again (ignoring the difference between OE and after-market suppliers). Ohhhhhhhhhh nooooooooooooooooo must throw it away then duhhhhhhhhhhh before it bursts into flames, joins al-qaeda and decapitates my children.

I reward these super salesmen by buying nothing they sell, coz they so clever and me so simple. Obviously you won’t be able to buy new OE built bikes with 26 inch components, can’t see ALL after-market suppliers completely dropping the standard over-night, given the amount of 26ers in circulation around the globe.

@BearBack – Some decent suggestions the Scot and the Urge, missed the CRC sale on them 35 quid seemed pretty reasonable.

That grey one is exactly what I’m on about that mushroom head numpty look, I’ve got a cheap one like that already, it doesn’t stop me riding but if I’m spending again I want something that looks reasonable.
