How does one successfully realign a bent mech cage?

It’s a bit hit and miss TBH.

    1) You can do it by eye just bending/twisting the bottom jockey wheel part of the cage whichever way looks best, but it’s difficult to judge because of the floating wheels.

    2) Unscrew the cage stop screw and roll the cage a full 360 degrees backward to release the spring pressure. Then you can fully dismantle it (the cage is 2 plates), get it on a bench/flat surface and bang it flat. This is hampered slightly by the fact some cages have relief profiles, hence are not a completely flat plate of metal (XTR are carbon so no dice).

    3) Buy one or both cage plates separately from SJS, JE James or similar

Edit: I am talking Shimano here!

For those suggesting the Force tyre as a lighter option for the rear, the Wild AM is a better choice!

I’ve got a Gum-X Wild Enduro front (the Gum-X has softer side lugs than the Magi-X) waiting to go on in place of a soft Magic Mary. I also run a DHF Exo 3C on my other bike, so I’m looking forward to comparing performance of arguably three out of the five (DHR 2 & Assegai) best front tyres commonly available in the UK.

Would like to try a Vittoria Moto at some point.

You can run 11-46 on 10 speed as long as you have the right/modified mech!

Been running it since the Sunrace cassettes were first released and I won’t be swapping that bike to 11 or 12 speed as it’s plenty good enough. I can hardly tell the difference gearing wise when switching between my 11 and 10 speed bikes.

When I ran a 10 speed mech with Radcage it was the most bulletproof setup I have ever ran, not so with the soft tin cages on 11 speed mechs!

Has anyone mentioned the latest 6G WiFi.

Yeah that’s right brain control (in your home) followed by brain shrinkage, then freeze dried for aliens to use as coffee!

Prices for them have gone mad though, everyone’s buying them in lockdown.

STW’ers are stockpiling them in their outbuildings/stables just in case.

I’ve solved it! I’ll take all the credit now……

Still miffed about GMBN using my insight on drop failures in a video about a week after I posted it on here, no internet points or ****-all!

One day I’ll get the recognition I deserve :D

Edit: One slight problem some moron would **** it up in this country.

The worst littering I’ve ever seen was in northern (Turkish) Cyprus. People just seemed to lob their shit everywhere and expect the LA to clean it up! Public BBQ areas (all over the place) with billowing smoke (not an exaggeration) and rubbish everywhere. Yet law and order, particularly robbery, theft and burglary is a relatively small issue, nothing like the UK!

Hardly ever saw anyone walking the streets, except in town centres. When walking about out of town and in the mountains, not a soul to be seen apart from goats! People in vehicles constantly stopped to offer a lift, something I’ve never experienced here or anywhere else TBH.

I think you missed the bit where it’s STEEL n/w chainrings being talked about

I think you missed where I said same material type.

    What for cinch cranks?

SRAM threatened various aftermarket NW chainring suppliers with legal action for patent infringement which resulted in price hikes and some brands discontinuing selling them altogether.

Lift the cover then you will know for sure which directions those drains travel.

    Waste pipes not as easy!

Most drains follow the cheapest shortest path (usually shared when terrace and close to the building) around buildings, down ginells past end terrace gable ends out to the road unless they have been altered for extensions or the housing is arranged in an unusual fashion/location/site!

    They’re not expensive

My point is I’ve tried both cheap and branded overpriced ones from when 1x first became mainstream a few years back.

IME there is little to no discernible difference or drastic wear improvements from NW chainrings of the same material type (manufacturing faults aside), that via propitiatory standards, branding and the SRAM corporation throwing it’s legal weight about are worth paying 3 times more for!

The one I had seemed to be machined too thin (11 speed). Dropped the chain regularly (on terrain I’ve had no problems on before) from new, without a chain guide and wore out as fast as cheap 9 quid alloy ones I’ve used.

    Expensive and shit IME.

It is not unusual to find fencing either side of a boundary (especially with old terrace housing) where drains/shared drains run or are very close to it!

    And piss lefties off

As sad as it is, this crops up often, especially about internet whiners. I’m afraid some people really want to shut them up and piss all over their chips by any and all means.

Oh and the sector of society viewed as scroungers with the rage constantly stoked by tabloids.

I use a bow saw and hand axe. Nice and quiet, surprising how good they are with a raker tooth blade for cutting green wood.

    Raker

Edit: And sometimes a jab saw for cutting roots in the ground. All cheap as chips and easy to use!

I had the same experience as @reluctantjumper with a Fuel Ex. Good bearings (some proprietary sizes) sealed reasonably well and years before needing attention. They could be cleaned out, spun and repacked a few times. The ones at the back axle get the grease washed out fastest and are usually the first to throw in their hand!

Exactly them Marins (above) and Polygons have all the worst attributes of Ebikes, combined with looking pre-snapped and a bodge job has been done on the linkage.

Suspension was supposed to be good LOL according to them! It’d have to be looking a dogs dinner like that. Unfortunately testers/reviewers didn’t agree and they were toe-bunged into the bargain bin.

Has certainly brought out the drama queens/mental cases this lockdown.

They would be better suited to twitter where they can get back-slapped and high-fived by the other inciters. They do all the work for right-wing agendas by pissing everybody off! Constantly fishing for beef and outrage, from their lofty pedestal. The self-appointed Prophets and social police with pathetic holier-than-thou attitudes.

Let them carry on pissing in their own shoes!

I’ve never liked the look of Cubes myself. Just a bit tacky and cheap.

Cube get pelters on the internet. The ones before 2015 were absolutely awful looking. The 2015 alloys were a bit marmite and some of the paint jobs were defintilty a bit teenage boy bad day at Halfords.

Dunno though I reckon the carbon 140’s and 150’s from 2018 on look pretty good, even the alloy Fritzz and similar Stereo 140’s look alright in the smaller sizes. Feel free to disagree of course!
