He uses the maintenance free jack supplied with his vehicle and spends money on a breaker bar and socket.

He can do both, one of, or neither if he likes it’s up to him.

We once had a lad mention sabbatical. The mob turned up at his house that night, he and his family were never seen again, run out of town they were.

I think the key is that it doesn’t have to be perfectly spotless, although that should be the aim! Get the majority of the flaky debris removed and the vast majority of the time it’s plenty good enough.

It is more critical when the fastener has a very short thread and/or is subject to significant vibration and twisting forces.

Nothing wrong with a puck or a bottle jack, it’s just easier than using a scissor.

Of course but you have to buy these things.

If you want to spend money on something that needs maintenance when you already have a maintenance free jack designed for occasional wheel changes. That benefits from purpose designed stowage unique to your vehicle, fits the jacking points and takes the weight of said vehicle, that’s up to you.

Which is also why it’s a terrible idea because the many of those rides will not start out as one of those rides

Yeah sure but the removable hood can simply be removed and permanently live in a pocket of the jacket rather than launched into some corner of your house never to be seen again. But yeah take the point that stowable as Hannah suggested might be the better option.

The scissor jack that came in the kit with our Citroen relay has always been fine for jacking with

Exactly and the bonus is they usually have a fitting that goes on the pinch weld (yes the pinch weld is plenty strong enough even though it doesn’t look like it!) so no need for bits of wood, hockey pucks and no real way of using it in the wrong place, unless you’re a complete numpty and/or wilfully ignorant to things that come with owning any vehicle.

Gisburn can actually be pretty good for a few hours razz. Just don’t do the full loop!

Instead from the car park go straight across past the farm house, up to the Hope line and session all the variations till you get bored. Then move on to the Leap of Faith DH lines. Again session all the variations until bored, then go down to Hully Gully, maybe that new bit and call it day. It links together nicely and you get to do all the best features multiple times!

Zipped arm pit vents on all jackets

And removable hood so everyone is happy!

Speaking of cranks, especially with 1x. It’s handy to be able to remove the chainring without having to remove the whole crankset, as you have to do with the majority of cranksets where the axle is fixed to the driveside. Some of the old 104 BCD cranks, you could unbolt (silly old bolt standard aside) the chainring and slip it off down the crank arm. You would in some cases have to take the pedal off, but it was easier none the less!

I have a long breaker bar with impact socket attached, that lives in the van for getting the wheel nuts off.

The standard scissor jacks that come with most vehicles are usually adequate. Used the one that comes with my van loads of times it’s fine. I’ve got other jacks but no need for them just to change a wheel.

You did undo the bolts with the wheel on the ground first didn’t you? Alloy wheels are the worst for bonding to the steel hubs. A bit of copperslip on the wheels/hubs mating faces will make the job easier next time!

Shimano levers are best for this IMO. Move them inboard so it’s difficult to do anything other than one finger braking. You’ll soon learn!

    monkey bath

Yes I believe it is where our lesser shaven northern cousins bathe with their families. Typically a yellow skip, which I’ve heard is often used for group defecation, on command of the alpha male, before promptly vacating said skip. Apparently It’s some kind of bonding thing.

I’m sure we can rely on the wonderful helpers to surge price all the tomatoes in tins and jars as well.

It’s just like good old covid times. Spark out a granny on aisle 6 and fill the spare room with tinned tomatoes.

Halo use the same freehub. They call it Supadrive.

Halo supply a steel version of the freehub but it costs many pounds! They also sell the springs and pawls separately. All the sealed bearings in both the freehub and axel can be replaced.

The worst thing about these freehubs is the not very effective flappy seal (in your photo). Which once damaged lets water in like a sieve (the retention ring rusts and pawls stick down) and cannot be bought from any of the suppliers!

It’s an interesting topic. With the fact all the easy money is beasted by everyman and his dogs uncle before you have even thought about it. The way corporate companies sew things up, with patented interfaces/connections, who they will and won’t supply parts to, as well as parts they won’t supply to anyone at any price!

Something else I recently learnt is second hand parts supply for vehicles before 2006 are being commercially restricted/discouraged.

Yes last night was stunning up here, should have taken some pictures. Had both the blue and pink highlighted cloud thing going on and that summer hazy evening thing with glowing orange to yellow, blue fade all in one vista.

make it more pleasing to the non-cyclists who look at it

That’s the first thing I thought when I went to the already mentioned LUBP, what with it being a multi-use site. A bit of clever landscaping, at least grass the in-between bits where weeds take over. Would make it look less like bikers have bowled up and taken over. At Leeds there’s massive grassed areas which could easily have a few picnic tables scattered about, so in the summer families and none bikers (local Special Brew & herbal enthusiasts) could chill out, sun bathe and watch from the side lines well out of harms way, without the need for any fencing!

Your site is a lot more penned in/sectioned off already. Oh and sorry for the lack of helpful suggestions. Be interesting to see what the STW green fingered geniuses come up with!

Smoother/less friction and potentially harder wearing, which is useful at pivot points that experience a lot of rotation, like the top pivot of four bar bikes. But as we all know bearings even sealed are defeated by water!

Somewhat by the numbers but a big hitter for sure.

Other than XC bikes setup for XC racing there can’t be many MTB’s where flat bars are much use to the average rider. I’ve certainly not ridden one yet and believe me I’ve taken every opportunity to try other bikes out.

I use 50mm rise and have not been below 30mm for years. I’m not unusually tall or long limbed either. Too low at the front makes steep trails terrifying IME, like the front wheel is going to tuck under at any moment. A light front wheel, in berms/corners, can in most cases be easily countered with body movement. Whereas the further you get pushed off the back of the bike the less steering control you have. In other words I’ll take a light front wheel over too low a front end all day long!

Rave era House eh. Was not unusual for artists in the 90’s to put out House and Hardcore/Breakbeat versions of tracks as well as vocal/radio edits and instrumental versions of the same track.

Congress covered all the bases with this:

    That geezer from Faithless

Still sounds fresh and yes I prefer this version to the more well known vocal edit.

    1992 that year again!

Is it ok if I just get the flag and say Slava Ukraine on social media rather than the picking up a rifle bit.

Maybe bang on some pots and pans with the neighbours or something.

Let’s not forget this little wheeze

It’s beyond absurdity. If it was, let’s say, benefit fraud. It would be reported thrice, 24hrs, seven days a week. No one would be left in doubt!

    Oh dear, more tax discrepancies.

Who’d have thought it. A two-tier tax system to benefit rich people, which would have criminal implications for poor people. Nice to see the rule makers showing their hands so it’s beyond doubt.

A society run for the benefit of the richest, corporations and investors with high prices all round for the idiots.

At least we know for certain where we stand and how they would like to further shape the world we live in!

Love most of the Evil Nine duos stuff. ILS and Adam Freeland have done so many amazing Breakbeat tracks.

Continuing the theme of not posting a House track and in response to

Is it time for the after party yet? some nice ambient / chillout music?

    How good is this
