All fair points regarding Hamilton and his race-craft but he was always considered to be one of the fastest guys over a single lap so it is disappointing to see Nico qualify better than him at the last few meetings.

Maybe the reduction in driver coaching over team radio has hurt Nico more than Lewis?

Loved the look on Nico and Lewis’ faces when Alonso said he didn’t know which team he’d be driving for in the press conference.

A Nico/Lewis 1, 2 will still give Lewis the title so Nico has to force Lewis into an error. There could be contact so Lewis better make sure the damage to Nico’s car is terminal or he’ll have blown it big time.

Does anyone else feel that a deal was done between both parties after Spa as Nico has made lots of ‘unforced errors’ since and hasn’t really fought with Lewis as hard on track either? Him out-qualifying Lewis at the last few meetings could be a way of saying he has the speed to win in a fair fight but hands are tied in the race?

    Just putting it out there…

The paint could cost as much as getting them powdered and won’t be anywhere near as durable.

Couldn’t you just hand them over to a local powder coater? The guy I use would charge £10 to £15 tops, all in.

Bit cold, this time of year, for painting stuff yourself unless you have somewhere warm-ish to do it…

I’ll hand this one over to Gordon Brown…

Pricematch and occasional discounts. There was a £5 for signing up for emails for a while.

    This.

£5 off a £40 spend if you sign up to newsletter. Used to be £5 off £20 spend though. :(

Do the bikes with racks and Brooks saddles fitted belong to your parents? You’d get torn a new one by your peer group if you rode such things, surely?

Lots of UK stockists for various SolarStorms on eBay but I’d like to find a genuine light (with batteries) if possible.

There are so many links on here that my head is spinning. Do we have a link to a UK supplier who has the one which has the reputed better build quality?

Don’t want to wait ages so that’s why I’m looking for a UK supplier

I’m just learning how to measure the drop so when I’ve got that sorted i will check ebay for some bargains, i hope. Mtb disc brakes are much simpler ! thanks guys .

Bargains you say? If the brakes are 57mm drop you will struggle to find a cheaper set than these Shimano R451s.

I paid £30 for the same brakeset and they are doing them for £12.50 shipped. Mine didn’t come with serrated washers anyway so I don’t know what the problem is. Am I missing something here?

Anything is possible these days. Marketing men are constantly bringing out new stuff that we don’t need but have to buy.

    I blame the internet…

For forks sake? That’s what I’d have thought if I’d spotted that on a bike I’d just bought.

Just try and get the wrap right first time round! It doesn’t like being re-wrapped, the adhesive strip is too strong I think and ends up tearing the tape etc.

OK buddy. I have used it before, I think. I used white Deda Mistral tape on a Ribble and I’m pretty sure the brown tape is also Mistral. It doesn’t have a great deal of stretch but is still pretty workable.

The main reason I bought the M:Part stuff was because it had no logos on it. The unexpected perforations I could live with but the reddy-brown colour is a bit rubbish so the tape is going the journey

It’s annoying when a manufacturer changes the spec of something and the store doesn’t update their site to inform you of the change.

Also, I had to wait four days because the store had to get it from the supplier. This could explain why I was in such a hurry to fit it without my OCD kicking in. I could have had the Deda stuff in a day or two if I’d gone that way originally.

Nice steed and the tape and saddle looks like a decent match on my monitor. Think I’ll take a punt on them – easy enough to return as I won’t be making the same mistake twice…

I was going to wrap it in reverse so the logos are hidden but they would re-appear if I changed direction at the levers which is what Park recommend. Stupid logos.

Surely just taking 0.5mm off the IS mounts would do the trick?

Yes, that would also do the trick but I’d want that done properly – faced so the IS mount is nice and square.

I was looking at a DIY option and fitting a washer does the trick without me picking up a file (and messing up the caliper or IS mount) or going to LBS.

Coatesy, you’re right. My reply was utter bollocks. Sorry op.

No worries, I had trouble trying to explain the issue clearly.

I managed to drill out one of the (brake spindle) washers I found but I had to grip it with mole-grips so its a little scarred but the alignment will be perfect when I fit a decent washer.

A guy on eBay does them but for M10 axles. Shimano did do a 0.5mm M9 washer on the XT M750 front hub (LX as well, I think) and I have a part number so might be able to order one?

Mad as a box of frogs.

I quite fancy trying one of those things but couldn’t justify owning one. 8)

Just thought of something. On old caliper brakes, they used to have really thin washers between the arms. (sometimes brass IIRC)

I might have some in the toolbox. They are wide enough to take a 9mm drill bit and still fit on the axle so they could be a winner. :?

    This sort of thing…

Forks are new carbon jobbies but the dropouts are narrower than my old suspension forks…

I’m sure I’ve seen really thin washers on a Deore front disc hub – between the the cone and locknut. Scavenge mode enabled.

Pics might have helped, I know…

The mythical .5mm washer will fix it. Of this I am sure. :D

What’s the problem with using the 1mm washer?

I could get away with the 1mm washer and a shim on the caliper but I’m pretty sure that .5mm would be pretty much perfect after experimenting with the 1mm washer.

There isn’t a lot of axle protruding past the locknut anyway and I’d rather lose half a mm than a full one (@nal?) Yes, splitting the difference is an option also…

    .5mm washer FTW.

He’s looking to move the hub/rotor away from the fork by putting a shim between the cone and locknut if i’ve read it correctly, shimming the caliper or rotor would exacerbate the problem.

Yes, I can’t add shims to the caliper because the caliper is tight against the IS mount and is still fouling the rotor so either the IS mount needs a little material shaved off (properly so it is square)or I add a washer to increase the gap between fork and rotor.

The only DIY option is to add the washer to the axle which will increase the gap between the rotor and the caliper. They are direct mount – not on an adaptor and I don’t want to savage them with a file and end up with a cock-eyed caliper.

Ribble SLX been out of stock a long time

Any idea if they’ll restock that chainset? Based on past experience etc.

I’ve requested notification of them coming back into stock but I’m not massively optimistic. Shame as they’re just what I need and are a cracking price.

Oh balls! Just rounded the bolts changing out the cleats.
The dangers of STW are clearly evidenced here!

Copper-slip your next set of bolts after you drill out the heads on this set. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
