Only you can answer this question. Your own instincts about how serious this is will likely be right.

But they may not be. Have a great holiday and I hope it all works out fine for you.

Set-up is part of it but relaxing is a also v important. That comes from confidence, which comes from riding in control. So do as others have said and slow down a bit and concentrate on riding smoothly and getting your technique right.

Morally, there’s no question – you should let them know they’ve made a mistake. But I don’t think you’re obliged to put yourself out so they can pick it up.

I had this happen with a bed years ago and they told me to keep it.

Just bought some of those for my backpacking trip to the Lakes at the w/e. If I survive I’ll probably cut them down for riding in. My Endura waterproofs are wearing out from over-use.

Oh, before that I had a rear rack that mounted on the roofbars and sat on the bumper. It was fine for several years with too adult bikes and two kids’ bikes but I didn’t trust it with four big bikes once the kids got older (and after my brother dumped all the family’s bikes off the back in the middle of France, using a hatch-mounted rack).

    Get a towball- mounted one.

Kirroughtree is ace. Dalbeattie in good. Innerleithen is fab. Are there any bad trails in Scotland?

I’m a fan of Bontrager tyres and Mud X’s are good all rounders. Fairly small volume an don’t last that long though. If you’ve found a good deal on XR4s then I’d go for it. Where, out of interest?

Love the scenery and the bike looks like it’s probably loads of fun to ride … but pretty? Nope. Don’t think so.

    1) It’s a full suss
    2) That shock looks like it’s been borrowed from a bigger bike
    3) Something else
    :-)

It’s alright till the novelty wears off. If the weather’s crap there is no novelty. I found myself looking for ways to get into danger just to make it more interesting. Luckily, I succeeded. More than once. :-) 8)
Was working for a canal boating magazine at the time.

Incidentally, best sandwich ever: houmous, beetroot (NOT pickled), lime pickle. Crisps optional.

Thickly sliced farmhouse cheddar, thinly sliced tomato, butter, mustard mayonnaise, Kettle Chips (any flavour), thick-cut sliced plastic bread. Palm squish. Chomp.

A Carbon 456 would be perfect for what the OP describes. It’s quite a bit lighter than the steel alternatives mentioned above, tough, dirt cheap, and will take a dropper post and a slackset. I run mine with a 130 fork and never really feel the need for more or less travel.

Surrey hills are still fine if you choose your route carefully. I like a bit of mud but this is getting ridiculous.

Mattjg, you should look at PostieRich’s SS up there^. It’s a beauty

That should be fun. There’s some big hills near Oviedo. Don’t know about the rest.

Ta for those suggestions. Will take a look. Any more?

Taking the peak off just doesn’t do it. I’ve got a Xen and a Hex and they just feel heavy and in the way when I’m on the road.

Guess I’d like to spend less than £50.

I generally like mud and slosh and slither. I can enjoy riding in pretty much any weather for a couple of hours and some of the best memories come from riding in proper rain. It only turns bad when you can’t get warm.

That said, this weather is really tweaking my nipples.

@Brant – funnily enough it was the arrival of those SS-specific Inbreds that got me thinking. They are nice.

I may yet buy one but I don’t need a new frame and part of me wants a custom colour

C456 may be ‘cheap’ carbon but it’s one he’ll of a bike for the money. Not arguing that Cotics win the beauty contest but I also like my C456’s low-down purposeful looks

I’ve used that eBay seal kit with good results . The moco seals were a bloody tight fit when reinstalling the damper

C456 has swap-out drop-outs for nice neat single speeding if that’s a consideration

Hmmm, may give the old hacksaw/file method a shot then

Don’t need/want this for my fairly sedate local trails. If I was rich and lived in the mountains, it might be different.

And I hate having stuff that I can’t fix myself if it goes wrong. Little black boxes full of dark magic make me sulky.

I’ve got Exotics. Definitely take some ouch out of the experience compared with old skool steel forks that I used back in the pleistocene. I love ’em. They’re lighter than the On One carbons and have taken some fairly serious abuse without complaint.

I found 5.10s and Nanos were too grippy. Shimano give good grip but allow a bit of adjustment

I’ve got two Joplins and a Reverb. One Joplin is a lever-under-the-saddle version and the others have remotes.

I didn’t see the point of the remote lever till I had it but I wouldn’t buy another post without a remote now.

Oh, and the Reverb is the dog’s genitals.

I have flats on 2 bikes and spds on the other 2. They both have their place.

I enjoy the ‘feel’ that flats give and the ability to take a foot off instantly can be handy. Spds definitely seem more efficient and therefore faster when pedalling hard so have the edge for group XC rides.

As said above, try it and see

Wang it back. Steel is amazing. If it doesn’t work, get a carbon one for £250 :D

Not used the 45s but have got 41s. The sole is completely different and I don’t think the 45s would be much cop. If you’re enjoying flats just get the 41s. They’re ace with Nanos

It’ll be fine. 100mm will give quite a low front end unless you add spacers as the ht is short. If you want a ‘race’ set-up that won’t be a problem. I have 130mm Revs, a flattish bar and no spacers and even that’s quite low
