Anyone remember that video that was posted in the Midweek Movies a while back of the old Raleigh (I think) factory from the 40s where they show the whole bike being made from scratch.

    <sigh> Aye, them were’t days <\sigh>

Great Langdale is a great base. Just make sure you can pitch on the higher ground in the campsite…

Oh, and Oxym0ron, was it you that pushed me over trying to flee the turning Mini? Just want to be sure before I instruct my solicitor. 😉

Do you think we should do it again?

This week: Revelation 29 RL and Nukeproof 800mm flat bar from CRC, Smorgasbord, Chunky Monkey and SS kit from On-One, XT cranks and Flux saddle from the classifieds (thanks boxfish). Due next week: sLX brakes from
Merlin, Superstar / Flow wheels and, best of all, a Singular Buzzard.

    Proper excited.

Flats, especially if you’re going to have a 120mm fork up front. And I’d go for something wide (740+) with a short stem. It feels much more natural on a bike like this IMHO

Or just join the chain the old-fashioned way and don’t use a quick link?

I think Upgrade are doing a deal on X-Fusion forks and the FF29 frame for £700 all-in. A mate’s done just that.
I’ve got some X-Fusion Forks and have been v impressed.

I’d go for the Superstar / Stans Crest wheelset for £200 then buy an SLX groupset from wherever’s cheapest (Merlin are usually up there).

There are some good deal on bars at Chain Reaction – Nukeproof 800 flat bars are £25 at the mo and Blackspire 808s not much more and both of those would be well suited.

Get a Charge Spoon saddle, some M540 pedals from Wiggle, Twelfty seatpost and Superlight stem from On-One and you’re just about sorted.

Lots of cheap, quality tyres about if you look. On-One’s not a bad place to start.

5’9″ and riding an 18 Inbred SS. It fits and rides well but is definitely less playful than the 16″ 26 Inbred it replaced. Difficult to say how much of that is down to wheel size and how much to the frame. Just ordered a medium Singular Buzzarrd for play duties.

Try it, see if you like it, then buy accordingly.

Beats me. Had one of these on my Reign and it sopped me getting the bars low enough so I took it off. The headset works fine without it but is slightly more exposed.

Yup, will be interesting to ride them back to back. I think the buzzard is shorter in the top tube but otherwise the geometry is near identical on paper. They’ll have a fairly similar spec but mine will be a bit burlier/weightier.

    Pointless IMHO

Finally, after lots of waiting, indecision and general faffing, I’ve ordered one. 😀

    Anyone built one up yet?

Oh and Leith Hill on steroids doesn’t really cover it. You know that opening scene in Fear and Loathing with the car and the drugs and the pterodactyls …

God I love Molini! Got a family holiday booked for Sept in the next valley and hoping to get a few runs in.

I’ve been with RB and Switchbacks. Both good but Molini is special.

    Get well soon Jo.

Molini is my fave place to ride in the world. I forgive them a bit of chaos because it’s so good. Ady deserves kudos for developing the trails

Sam’s just told me a large weighs 2.6kg and be reckons a medium will be approx 100g lighter. Someone weighed a med Yelli at 2.1kg so there’s about a lb in it.

Try Nirvana in Westcott or Cycleworks in Leatherhead. We do a Weds night ride starting 6.30ish from Nirvana and there are some quick boys among us (the bastards!). There is no craic, though – we are a right bunch of miserable gits.

I think it refers to the stanchions. They’re black.

Is MBUK a peer-reviewed scientific journal these days? I remember when it did Christmas photo comic strips with gratuitous female nudity. We’re all going to hell in a (20in wheel) handcart.

There have been other threads on this so have a search. The gist is that Superstar have stopped acting as distributor and there isn’t another UK distributor at the mo, so support/ warranty could be a hassle. But at that price …

Yes but still v. interesting geometry and pretty decent spec, albeit a bit pricey.

Has no one on here ridden one? Do they even exist?

    Cheezpleez

So, has anyone ridden one of these yet?

Everything about it seems right. Shame they don’t do a frame only option.

The rule: 29 rolls better but 26 encourages more mentalism.

    The exception: Yelli Screamy

650B = 26. Can anyone really tell the difference?

    29er hardtail fun index:

Head angle: One point for every degree slacker than 70
Chainstay length: One point for every 5mm under 445mm
Frame weight: One point for every half pound under 6lb

Negative points apply if measurements go the other way.

I think this should prove that the Yelli is currently the funnest 29er hardtail on the planet. What else needs adding to the formula?

Agree re Fireline – it may be cheap for Ti but it’s not cheap. Doesn’t the Bigwig have pretty standard chainstays – 445 or something?
