No seatpost problems here with a Twelfty and an RSP dropper.

Can’t help with your questions but keen to hear how you get on. That should be a cracker!

Thing is, the technology has only just evolved to the point where they’re worthwhile. Where will they be in five or ten years?

I propose a simple law. Anyone riding an e-bike without a medical reason should be required to wear one of these:

with the words LAZY FECKER in big pink letters on the back

2004 were almost identical. No, they weren’t that light but on a par with those Anthem’s I reckon.

My 2005 Stumpy FSR 120 frame weighed nowt. You could build one of them up pretty darn light and end up with a capable bike. Flexy back end, though.

I ride a rigid bike with a dropper, which gives you an idea of my (weird?) priorities

I’ve ridden Carnmore to Poolewe (great, in that direction), having ridden in from Kinlochewe over the Bealach Meinnidh (hard, in either direction).

Evening train to Oxenholme, camp at the pub campsite there then two days in the Lakes (lots of options). It’s only just over 2 hours on the train, not like the nightmare of getting to the TCW.

The top cap is the cause of your wobble, I think. I’ve replaced one and it wasn’t too tricky. wrap some inner tube around the post and shape a couple of bits of wood to act as jaws and you’ll be fine. I seem to remember the kit comes with a selection of keys but I could be wrong.

It ended up costing me about £50 and then the post stopped working about six months later for a completely different reason.

Next time I think I’ll just send it off for a full service.

Would love a BRG Stooge to go with my purple one. I’m sure I could justify it somehow.

I get the “where’s your bell?” comment all the time, despite always making a point of slowing to walking pace and saying a friendly good morning from a good distance away. It’s often from someone in a large group of walkers and I generally read it as code for ‘How dare you ride your bicycle near me’.

There’s no ‘right’ way but pointing the ends down slightly works for me.

29 really can be fun. No down side if you get the right frame . Niner ROS, Quarterhorse, Yelli, Nimble 9, Honzo, etc

Did a bikepacking trip up that way last May. We rode the track west from Kinlochewe to the north of Loch Maree and over Strathan Buidhe and down to Carnmore where we bivvied. That was something I couldn’t wholeheartedly recommend as a ride (it’s a lovely walk!). However, the ride out from Carnmore to Poolewe is superb with some great, swoopy singletrack. And the causeway and surroundings at Carnmore are worth the trip.

We also did the Kenmore track to Applecross, which is great. Instead of returning, we headed on road over the Bealach na Ba to Kishorn and back to Achnashellach where we got the train home.

The originals have N2S on one of the sleeves, I think. They use a different, thinner material that was great for temperature regulation.

If yourself is a mk1 Phantom then get the zip repaired and hang onto it. Best softshell ever IME.

Windchill is an OK replacement but not as versatile (hotter).

It’s not a hard feature but the compression has got noticeably harsher in recent times. Need to be careful if taking it at full pelt.

On-One Groove Armada is a good balance of price and durability IME. I’d avoid Superstar SS alloy cogs – mine was made of Brie and self-destructed in no time. Surly about the same as the On-One but a bit more spendy.

Interesting but let’s face it, it’s just about impossible to test this scientifically. There are so many variables and you can’t blind people to the wheel size they’re riding. Luckily, it’s been proven that MTBers have no psychological bias or emotional attachment when it comes to wheel sizes. 😉

Looking at them (while not wearing them) I’ve never been able to tell whether the lenses get any darker/lighter. However, they’ve always done a good job of letting the right amount of light in when wearing them in a reasonable range of conditions, from murky to v bright.

My legs are bloody gorgeous and I feel morally bound to share them with the world as often and as fully as possible. If I must suffer then so be it.

I refuse to contribute to this thread. And I definitely haven’t read it.

    Has anyone mentioned 29+? 😀

I’m much less excited about big tyres on the back. I’d like to try a B+ back end on my Stooge but the cost-benefit trade-off seems less clear-cut to me.

My, there’s a lot of paranoia out there, isn’t there?

Personally, I think the past few years have seen some great innovation and we now have more choice than ever about the sort of bikes we want to ride. Of course the industry/market won’t support everything but that’s life.

I love riding my rigid bike with a 29+ on the front. For me, that’s all that matters.

I’m sure it’s not a kilo heavier really. Are you looking at internet weights?

The geo on the Buzzard is better than the Parkwood IMO. I’ve got a Buzzard and have had a quick go on a Parkwood and I’d say they’re both good but the Singular edges it (and looks prettier).
