Geetee Last night before I fell asleep I found myself thinking about how I would be feeling in your present situation. Though you did your best you will be emotionally scarred by your experience. My thoughts are with you mate. Hope you can get back on track quickly.

    THE THOUGHT-FOX by Ted Hughes

I imagine this midnight moment’s forest:
    Something else is alive
    Beside the clock’s loneliness
And this blank page where my fingers move.

Through the window I see no star:
    Something more near
    Though deeper within darkness
    Is entering the loneliness:

Cold, delicately as the dark snow,
    A fox’s nose touches twig, leaf;
Two eyes serve a movement, that now
And again now, and now, and now

Sets neat prints into the snow
Between trees, and warily a lame
Shadow lags by stump and in hollow
Of a body that is bold to come

    Across clearings, an eye,
    A widening deepening greenness,
    Brilliantly, concentratedly,
    Coming about its own business

Till, with a sudden sharp hot stink of fox
It enters the dark hole of the head.
The window is starless still; the clock ticks,
    The page is printed.

In the middle of a really strange dream involving Steven Fry he said to me “Its quite alright to have dark and cynical thoughts, just keep them in the sunny side of your brain” Which I thought was pretty good.

Since buying a rigid SS and upgrading it a bit my MTB spending has slowed to a trickle. Mostly just brake pads and bottom brackets now and again. Spent nothing on the full-susser as it hasn’t been used for a year.
No knee replacements needed yet though!

Get pleasantly drunk on the highball Margaritas at Jimmy Buffets 5 o clock somewhere bar (attached to the Flamigo Casino) as you watch the world go by.
Eat a Tony Romas on Freemont Street
Eiffel Tower does a nice breakfast menu
Hire a nice car for the day and go for a drive out of town.
Lounge around the Hotel pool all afternoon in the baking heat drinking beer
Have fun with the crazy people you will meet.

Im sure it goes without saying but whatever you 2 decide to do make certain that you are not putting your wife under any pressure to do what she doesn’t want. For some people the idea of looking for a new job is pretty terrifying and they are privately willing to put up with hell to avoid it.

I’m pretty sure that is not climbing equipment, more like a hoisting sling. Look at lifting gear companies. You obviously don’t want to use it for climbing purposes if only to hold 30Kg.

Cannondale Trail SL rigid SS, it has relegated my 5 Spot to dry dock status. I fancied riding the Spot tomorrow for a change but found it needs some fettling through inactivity so it’s the SS again. 🙂

thanks for all the helpful advice. STW is brilliant for this kind of newbie stuff.
I look forward to making a start soon. There is a nature reserve near to where I live (Brighouse)which has hides etc. and lots of keen birders around so I will be up and running soon and I will keep you posted on what I see. Cheers.

Lipstick Traces by Greil Marcus. So good I’ve read it twice and will return to it again.
A tricky read and not everyone’s cuppa political tea but highly recommended to the old punks and anarchos on here.

It’s not tight when it’s £40.00 per kilo! By weight it’s probably the most expensive item in the supermarket

Not quite TESCO saffron is £5000 per Kg

Yes indeed science is not everything and is much more important to some than it is to others. I’m one of the others.
