I check out thequietus.com for loads of new musical trails, especially the Baker’s Dozen feature where artists list their fave 13 albums and say why. Richard Dawson did his recently leading me to Endless Boogie and some more.
Be prepared for some real weird shit though.
For short journeys of around 5 miles it is cheaper and more convenient for 3 people to book a taxi than use public transport networks. Result – busses in and out of town are more or less empty but taxis all over the place. Might be different in London etc.
I love pretty much everything they ever recorded in varying degrees but a lot of my friends say they are vastly overrated. I like that, taste is individual.
Hypothetically, if the thing that believers call God made it abundantly clear that it really existed in a scientifically proven way then it would make faith redundant and end religion for ever. That thing would then be seen as an alien object, feared and probably hated by all of mankind. In other words if you can prove the existence of God it becomes science and ceases to be God.
I went back to my previous interest in rock climbing, at which point my obsession with MTBing dwindled quite a lot.
You could try an indoor bouldering session if you have a facility nearby.
For me the greatest advantage of droppers is all about lowering the centre of gravity when descending in the saddle and the resulting responsiveness and fun factor (the trails literally come alive etc). I always drop the seat for freewheel descending on roads, it feels brilliant.
If no advice is forthcoming here Blazing Saddles shop in Hebden will point you at the legit stuff but the best descents are cheeky and omerta prevails amongst HB locals. I hope they prove me wrong.
There’s some very good riding to be had in lower Calderdale which is rideable from Cleckheaton. Around Brighouse you have Elland Woods, Cromwell Woods and Rastrick Woods, Magna Via (don’t miss the view from Beacon Hill). A little further up the valley are Copley Woods and Norland Moor. All linkable via towpath etc. You would need some local knowledge though and I work weekdays.
When are you here?
Having said that Hebden has more classic rides and techy stuff. Hopefully you will get some advise for Hebden area – if you’re lucky!
