Used to really like our local area but in the last 2 years there’s been a massive surge in moped gangs, burglary, muggings of kids and adults by kids and a whole load of other crime and antisocial behaviour. It’s enough for me to want to move as I don’t want my young family to be exposed to it. Also for the first time in 20+ years I don’t feel at all safe walking round at night or cycling my road bike on local roads.

“2. The £350m is misleading as the actual figure is £250m a week.“

“It’s either the truth or a lie,”

The £350m is in the Office of National Statistics Pink Book – which I suspect means the court case won’t last long.

Meanwhile, the motivation behind the case becomes clearer…

Campaigner To ‘Stop Lying In Politics’ is Lying About His Political Campaign

The Embarrassing Anti-Boris Pitch To Raise £2 Million From Gullible Remainers

For clarity – again – Boris is still a grade A tool – I have no time for him.

    Three thoughts:

    1. The unexplained wealth order for anyone that can bothered to use google before spreading fake news related to the wife of a jailed Azerbaijan banker.

    2. The £350m is misleading as the actual figure is £250m a week.

    3. The incredible new Royal Papworth Hospital that’s just opened cost £165m to build. At that rate the EU net payment would fund one new hospital a week with £105m in spare change.

That Boris is a complete tool is undeniable but the question of whether we really get value from the net £250m a week is highly relevant.

We’re told it’s the cost of participating in the free market yet Japan and Canada how both concluded extensive free trade agreements with the EU that doesn’t require them to pay anything at all for the “privilege” of being allowed to sell goods and services to EU member states (and vice versa).

Dave Hinde no longer has any interest in the business – but his wife is still involved with a bike related business trading from the same address.

    5:40 is a lie-in – count yourself lucky.

Our eldest had a year of me getting up to resettle him 4 times a night and typically getting 3-4 hours sleep (and getting up for the day between 4 and 5) because once I was up I was unable to get back to sleep.

Now the eldest sleeps through till 5 which is a huge improvement all things considered.

Use a JCT and don’t trust your architect to achieve good value.

After initial bids on our project I re-wrote the tender document to group the deliverables and quantities by trade.

This had the result of enabling me to read across the tenders and find the lowest price per trade and then stitch that back up to a total contract value (adjusted because if you pay bottom for everything the quality of the finished job just gets compromised).

The Architect was adamant the project could not be brought in for any less than £117k – I brought it in on time at £79k. This was 6 years ago but the principle probably still stand today.

The OP has had the equivalent of a multiple rollover lotto win – the odds of the police ever doing anything when it comes to aggressive / dangerous drives are tiny.

I’d be be on the phone telling them to sling the book at the driver – chances are if the OP doesn’t the police simply won’t bother looking at it the next time.

AndyL – I know exactly where that farmer’s fields are…. even though he’s not directly keeping animals the last time I was up that way the livestock in the field were in a pretty bad way – a lot of the sheep were lame and quite a few were shuffling around on their knees and looked in need of attention from
    a vet.

I’m not a regular to the area so if you get the chance please keep an eye on those fields and let the RSPCA know if they need to pay a visit..

“No, and right now it is 30 years on, so I’m not sure of the relevance to today’s parties. Perhaps I miss something“

Yes – mainly that the current Labour Party leadership have life long commitments that would return us to the economic malaise of the 1970s. They may have put a new veneer on the policy but it’s fundamentally the same. A quick review of the history of Venezuela over the last 10 years provides a contemporary case study in how well the policies work.

I bought a 4 pack of TV gripits for hanging a flat screen TV. Installed vs the instructions and there’s no way they would hold the weight of the TV even though it weighed less than 15kg – way below the stated weight limit.

I gave up and seeing as the holes were already drilled used these instead:

Safest way to buy is buy either off a known uk retailer or if buying from amazon limit the search to only show items that amazon uk is selling.

There are a lot of Chinese companies masquerading as uk sellers on amazon / complete with uk names and addresses but the goods are actually sent from China and in most cases are unsafe even if they do have the CE mark on them.

The huawei LTE routers work pretty well and also support an external antenna. Depending on the model they are in the £80-£100 range and can be sold off via eBay after a few months use.

It’s great as long as you don’t mind Google slurping your data for their own purposes. See theregister.co.uk’s review of the pixel 2:

Given the volume of anti trust fines Google have already paid for behaviour that is demanding to privacy and consumer choice I wouldn’t personally be rushing to buy one of their phones.

    My recent favourites:

Lethal Weapon (TV Series) – brilliant light entertainment
Bosch – really good crime drama
Beat – German techno drama series – subtitled but brilliant story line
4 Blocks – german crime series – brutal but well written
American Gods – too strange to describe
Homecoming – drama starring Julia Roberts

Virgin’s quality of service is terrible. The download speeds are regularly a fraction of the claimed speed in the evenings and weekends (our neighbours get 7-15mb on a 100mb connection). The upload speeds are also low unless you got for one of the XL packages.

We’ve tried virgin twice and both times got rid of them because they kept promising to sort out problems with “upgrades in the next 6 months” but nothing ever materialised and years later they still have the same problems in the same area.

Plusnet are good – no issues at all in the time we’ve been with them – also worth looking on topcashback to get a few extra quid back.

Whether or not you share his political views he has built a very successful business and seems to run it in a way that his employees rate.

    As a company, Wetherspoons:

    – gives nearly all staff, including hourly paid workers a bonus
    – staff with 18 months service become elible for a company share scheme
    – they typically pay above minimum wage
    – more than half their staff are female
    – c45% of senior managers and board members are female
    – the also score highly on diversity in the workforce
    – the employee engagement scores are consistently positive

For me that’s a well run ship and the guy at the top seems to be a decent enough bloke.

I use Molton Brown which at £15 or so for 300ml might sound a bit over the top.

But – it’s such a good liquid soap – quite thick (I shave with it as well) that only a tiny amount is required for each shower. A bottle will easily last 4-5 months in which time I’d have spent more on runny equivalents like radox – and generated more plastic waste as a result.

I’ve got a makita oscillating multitool and it’s great – it uses a keyless system for changing the blades and has lasted a lot longer than the Bosch home diy-er and Bosch professional one I had before it.

Bosch do a good blade just for removing grout which saves a lot of faffing round.

I still have vivid memories of seeing the Prodigy on a stage in the middle of a Universe rave in Wiltshire back in 92/93 – the sun had started to come up behind the stage when their set started at 4 ish in the morning and their opening track was an atmospheric / ambient number.

A great genre-defining band and performer – what a loss.

To the OP – seriously feel for you – it can be very tough getting to grips with a newborn.

+1 on grobags – also check the bedroom is the right temperature the whole night

Sleephead / pod systems were banned in the USA a few years ago after a number of deaths so probably best to avoid – using a crib is safe though.

Co-sleeping as others have said can be quite dangerous – and if the baby is cluster feeding and being breast fed it may be worth getting a breast feeding specialist to check out the feeding position and make sure they’re getting a good meal each go – NCT have free breast feeding clinics in most places.

One other thing it’s very easy to do without realising is introducing sleep “props” like rocking the baby to sleep etc. These work short term but set you up for problems down the line – no one tells you until it’s too late.

None of this insight is coming from a point of expertise though – I’ve spent the last year getting up 3-4 times a night (or more) to resettle our 2 year old and averaged less than 4 hours a night of sleep for much of that period – on top of a 12 hour day at work the experience completely broke me mentally and physically.

A real loss to Swindon but not a huge surprise – Honda has been losing market share to other manufacturers for many years now – their product design is dated and price wise Nissan and the Korean brands are beating them.

Honda are moving all manufacturing for EU markets back to Japan which probably makes sense in the long term given the recent EU / Japan trade deal reduces the tariffs for Honda to export to the EU.

I think Brompton are really missing a trick by not doing a much lighter model.

A carbon model would certainly sell in smaller volumes but given the clientele they could probably still sell them at £3k a pop. For any commute where the Brompton has to be carried.m e.g. up stairs changing platforms etc. the heft of a Brompton can be a bit of a faff.

I meant “European problem” in the context of a significant rise in homelessness across many EU member states – interestingly some of the largest increases have been in countries that haven’t had “austerity” which would seem to point to root causes that are borderless e.g.

    – access to drugs / mental health issues linked to this
    – family breakdown
    – migration
    – difficulty in helping the homeless. ( irrespective of the funding and tremendous investment of time and effort from the many amazing volunteer organisations).

“Fake” homelessness is a real thing though – see link below. But when I can see people who’ve clearly been sleeping in hedges all night when I walk through local parks early in the morning there are clearly many genuine homeless people for whom the available help isn’t enough.
