I said this to them in person a couple of weeks ago, but will back up samuri here. They are a delightful company to work with, as you say very British. They have great products, a real passion for cycling and are not cut-throat hardnosed gits working out how to milk customers to the max.
The flip side of this is that they are not the best marketeers (though it works on me!) and their mail order software sometimes lets them sell stuff they ran out of 6 hours ago!
Compared with a company like Crank Bros or Oakley that sells mediocre products marketed to the max, I know where I would rather put my coins!

Is it just me that saw the thread of this title and thought it related to extreme use of Kona Ute/Big Dummy?

The cranks, brakes and shifters are identical to 2005 LX (I have both).
The rear mech is different and so is the rear hub. Not sure about the front mech, but then who cares.

Used the Telegraph, figured it pulled enough stench out of the House of Commons so it should work on SIDI Gortex road boots.

plop pants, I did buy the last pair, but then another pair came up and I thought a guy at work would want them (who wouldn't?) but for some daft reason he said no.

OK got my sidi road shoes…smell like 3 year old trainers.
Have washed them out and put them in the freezer to kill off the smell (shhhh…dont tell mrs HB!), then will let them dry in the heat of the conservatory for a week.
    Lovely fit though! Well chuffed.
Bought a second pair in 45 to go on Ebay come november!

Can't wait to get home. Should have two pairs of size 45 Gortex SIDI winter road boots, a hope twin LED, El camino front and rear brakes for my 29er build, XT £30 shifters and bargain XTR front mech and cheap rear mech. Not to mention assorted random bits like park pizza cutter and some bargain dry lube. Might get fish n chips for tea to mask the smell of sea water when I open the boxes!

Until the price rises of the last 12 months, I don’t think bikes have EVER been cheaper in £terms and thats even without taking into account inflation.
    Examples:
In 1994 A pair of hope Ti XC wheels cost around £200, a price which remained constant for over a decade.
Suspension forks in 1994 (there were 3 PACE, Manitou and RS) were £300-350. You can now get a much better fork for less than £300.

What has happened in bikes is that there is uber bling to take money out of your wallet. But a £600 bike now is better value than ever.

Dire Straights – money for nothing
Elgar Cello Concerto (ok not a song, but recognised in about 1 second flat)
    Many Queen songs.

Ton, no. My bargain on-one bike (well at that price and after the conversation we had last week, it was rude not to.) will not be built for a few weeks. I have frame, wheels, bar, stem, saddle, seatpost and headset. Need forks (some nice full carbon ones on ebay, unless anyone is flogging some on-one 29er forks?) and drivetrain and brakes.

I agree with phil, Tandem and onewheelgood.
SOMETIMES it is safer to jump a red light. I don’t do this often, in fact TandemJeremy described exactly the situations where I do jump lights, to avoid green light log jams. My judgement is that in certain instances this is the safer option. On a bike my concern is for safety over and above the highway code.
In fairness to Mastilles, it is entirely possible the girl was cycling like a nutter. But not everyone who sometimes jumps red lights or path hops is an evil cyclist.

Dont see a problem with that riding personally.
On a bike you have to alternate between a very defensive style and a very assertive style. Drivers need to be very clear about where you are, and what you are planning to do. This can involve hogging a lane so that drivers are not tempted to squeeze past when turning right at a rbout etc.

    just signed up last month.

    £49 for the HD box
    free broadband
    free phonline
    Free install

figured after years of saying no that I would sign up for a year, get the dish installed and then go to freesat in 12 months time.

The HD stuff is good, but patchy. HD house is a great picture.
But most HD stuff is sporadic. Not all HD channels are transmiting an HD source! Worth it for me though £28 a month with 4 mixed packs. thats roughly same as I was already giving to BT and Nildram (now talk talk owned….booo!)

Mick, though Gooner, Ton and Ian are fairly nippy, you will find that I bring down the average speed by a notch or two!

Ton: Just had text from Gooner. Not playing out tonight. Hopefully trails in south Leeds will dry out a bit by 1830. Just stopped raining in sunny Harrogateshire.

I think we all get phases where we can’t be bothered with a hobby or sport.
With cycling, I find a few bimble rides by myself over a few weeks gets me back into it. Also when motivation is lacking, I remind myself that I have never finished a ride and regreted setting off, though I do sometimes get that “why bother” feeling 20 mins into a ride, but that passes after another 20 mins.

USE are British, but which of their stuff is MADE in Britain?
O am sure the old seatposts were, and the lights, but are the carbon bars made in blighty?

I don’t agree with making helmets mandatory as I believe firmly in a persons right to choose their own level of risk (where that doesn’t excessivey put others at risk).
Every time I have banged my head badly enough to care it has usually been on tarmac (either wet or icey, you don’t have time to react and get an arm down). I know several other cyclist friends who have trashed helmets in falls. For this reason I am more supportive of wearing helmets than I was 10 years ago.
As for an impact at 30mph being beyond the design limit. So what? Surely it will give you some improved chance of survival?

    Always wear a helmet.
3 weeks ago a colleague at work had an accident in Harrogate.
He was cycling past queing traffic on Leeds road when a prat in a Golf decided to do a U turn to avoid the traffic.
His helmet is in pieces from where he hit the windscreen, but other than that he is alive.

I have also had too many silly falls and near misses where a curb stone or rock could have put a nice dent in my head.

Bottom line is if you cycle without a helmet you have not properly assessed the risks.
