trout, sorry mate those conectors are gopping!
I mean the battery ones. Don't care what does inside the light provided it is reliable
Much prefer the hope style standard jackplug type, preferably in a soft plastic. Havn't looked at neils suggestion…goes off to google

Sorry to take this thread away from the obvious Ann Summers and cuniculus related jokes.

For shaving (bloke, up top) I find Wilkinson sword quattro platinum to be much better than ANY of the Gillete stuff. Fusion was what made me switch, worst bloomin razor ever.

Of the diddy ones, the sansa won the gadget show review convincingly. Only about £35 too!

Might have a nearly new hope twin LED for sale if anyone is interested? Bought it 2 months ago, but am now wrapped up in getting a Troutlight!
Its the newer 480 lumen model with single battery. [sorry for the slight hijack]

Trout, I thought after posting. Your shots on the glass table are very good. You might be able to get good photos by shining a spare light at a very shallow angle to accent the one being photographed. I have a 50mm wide apperture lens so can get some nice product type shots. Would like santa to get me a macro lens, but a guy can't have everything.

One other thing that I think would really work is to inject a little of that art deco 1930's style and/or 1950's rocket style into the designs at a future point. Obviously function is more important than form, but I think that those two era's had heat-sinks and fins down to a T.
[never thought I would type that, feel free to ignore!].

Looks really cool, can't wait to own one.

If it helps I am more than happy to do a little freebie photography for you one weekend. I have a Nikon D80, but have off camera wireless flashes so you can illuminate at a shallow angle to help pick out the detail.

another vote for eneloops, not much to match them really.
I have a component shop smart charger in each car, and a top of the range charger (£50) from maplin that displays MAh and other info as it charges. This is also helpful for finding duff cells.

Mebee its not a half trout, its "fillet of trout".

    [runs to get coat]

Just to explain a half trout is a light with 3 LED's. I am sure me mentioning this will fill up trouts email with requests for N+1 LEDs in various customs guises. Sorry.

Went to visit Trout today with a mate who wants a custom application for his HASE. Trout showed us the CNC housings for the new light and also the current (soon to be previous) generation LED setup. I have to say, the photos taken really do not do justice to the quality of product this man is making. The CNCing is perfect, the LED fitment is neat, the switch has a nice satisfying click. In short… I am having one. Gun metal grey also looks nothing like as black as it did in the pictures. Looks really nice!
And Mrs Trout makes a nice coffee (thanks!).

    yes you can freeze it.
One word of warning though, you will need to defrost COMPLETELY before drinking otherwise you will get the alcohol out of the tap and leave water crytals behind (like that crap COORS beer!).

Trout, apparently you are in the wrong game with MTB lights! I was talking to a colleague yesterday to show him the logo handywork. He informed me you should be making dive lights to be in the serious money. He is seriously into his diving and said that they are even more ridiculously expensive than MTB light!

I think you overestimate how much cooling these things require.
Look at it another way, conduction and thermal mass and surface area are all important. Airflow matters too, but conduction is a stronger effect at low speed and I doubt the tail would get too hot as this light looks to be more Alu than the chinese ones.

    Luminous, I wouldn't fret!
The STW lot are still raw from Fruits cynical use of alternative usernames (aledged?).
I suspect in hindsight Trouts topic was not the ideal launch platform for ya, much better to start a fresh topic!
Other than that I agree that the more good quality homebrew the better.

    Best of luck

Trout, should be able to get in any format requested. Don't forget to give Monty credit, its his design! All I did was persuade a nice guy at work with chocolate (not easy when you work for a company that makes cake and coffee!).

coffeeking – to be fair I did use 0w40 at the last oil change, but have been topping up with Carlube VW507 spec 5w30 for the last 6 months.
The V40 has always used a bit of oil, about a litre every 5000miles, but this has remained constant since I bought the car in 2003 with 55,000 miles on it. So by the time of next oil change it will probably be 50:50 mix of oil.
The other reason for changing oil that is not stated above is that the oil has a cleaning function in that it disolves off deposits and contaminants from the engine. These remain in the oil between changes (hence why it turns black). Obviously if you REALLY abuse your oil it degrades to the point where it begins to polymerise and turn into sticky gunk. Have never even gotten close to this!

I don't buy into the "old cars need viscous oil" rubbish.
Its more "worn engines need viscous oil". My car (V40)should use 10w40 and I have been using 0w40 (costco chevron)and more recently 5w30 (Carlube VW fully synth as used in my A2) in it for the last 100,000 miles.
The car has now done 156,000 miles and uses no more oil than it did when I bought it.
As said above, regular changes, with filter are the key. I change mine at least once a year. Personally I always use fully synthetic. I accept this might not be stricly needed, but for an extra tenner a year it makes next-to-no difference to my annual running costs.

Trout, how do you like montys design?
I think its great (usually kiss of death design wise!).
If I could get a line version of that converted into AutoCAD would that be of interest?
The team with AutoCad is different to the design team.

Hi trout, think you might need to post something more specific for this (will probably need an illustrator).
What size area is the engraving going in (mm x mm).

I assume it's lasered rather than engraved? Do you know how fine detail can be achieved?

I work for a small tea company in Harrogate and might be able to persuade one of our very talented illustrators to help!

Do you have any ideas for the logo?

Just of top of my head, the word TROUT but in the shape of a fish (ala DARWIN or JESUS logo)?

    Ta.

PS thanks for getting in touch with my mate with the HASE, he is very excited!

Flashing mode is a must have for comuting, much more visable than just a static light (I tend to use both together for combined visability AND legality…hence my request for a road legal, bright Troutlight for front and rear).

Mini USB is 5v, this is plenty for lighting (potentially, I have LED lignting that runs on 1.2V through to 7V). Mini USB is on many items these days, from Phones to Garmins etc etc. Even if the plug may differ, 5v seems to be the defacto voltage for charging mobile devices.

    CHB

Trout, as above, there are lots of lights that are OK for off road.
The one gap in the market is a light system that is road legal, but f=ing bright, with a brief high lumens mode that also give offroad prowess!

The challenges are different, side spill, need for reflector on rear, ease of removing from bike. USB charging would be good (would enable a VERY small battery).

Go on, you know you want to!

Also my mate in steeton, wants a high power light to mount onto the front of his blue HASE recumbent trike!

If there are newish tyres, brakes and sevice components and lots of evidence of good maintenance then I would be tempted by the cheaper one.

Trout, ever fancied a go at a self contained flashing rear light? One that projects a red patch on the road behind the rider, but still has the BS requirments of reflector and visability?
