I have a volvo V40. The only thing to ever go wrong with it is the wiring loom. The wiring loom was made by Peugeot.

£20 sounds fair to me. Also have to factor in a price for if the yoof who does the job knacks the frame or any component up. I would be happy to pay £20 for that. In no way is this a 5 minute job.

We were on the House Doctor 10 years ago (smelly dog house in South Leeds). Was interviewed on Stray FM for cycling to work (50miles) on Harrogate Car free day this year.

Perhaps those of us who work in the field of environmental services

Big Dave, I wish that those involved in environmental services in Leeds would just empty my bloody bins rather than anything else.

What was your speciality in environmental services, bin wagon driver or dog muck and sweet wrapper patrol?

Really..wow then you will have links to journals with your name on to post as evidence.
So in one link you can prove BOTH that you are not an idiot and that you have evidence.

    ;-P

My standpoint on this one is that we simply do not know for definite what effect our emissions are having on the climate.

Actually I agree with that statement too. We don't know whether we are **** the planet or REALLY **** the planet. ie I don't think its debateble that humans are effecting climate. I do accept that there is changing evidence about the rate at which we are doing it. However the range of data deviation suggests that even the "optimistic" levels are not going to be fun.

Wow, you said something I agree with. Conserving finite resourses makes sense.
My personal view is that its lack of resources and desertification/soil errosion that will have the really painful effect.

Personally I remain convinced of man made climate change. Your post above is not evidence. Evidence needs something a bit more thorough than saying its pish.

Just as an aside, whats your education/background? ie is it scientific/engineering? Just wondering if you are being willfully obtuse or just a bit uneducated.

rightplacerighttime…suggest that we ignore TZF until he posts something sensible (ie a rational argument backed up with even a little evidence).

TZF, ok. Can you post anything even remotely as credible to the counter? When you do then we have something to talk about. Until then I shall not be feeding the Troll/Idiot (delete as applicable).

If we invite people over we always expect them to bring any kids they have with them. Our kids go to 90% of the "do's" that we attend. Wouldn't have it any other way.

TZF, I suspect that the term "definitive proof" might be something you will always say is never reached. However, lots of stuff here that is compelling and credible and fits with my understanding of systems:
    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climatechange/

Suggest you post something to counter it, naturally make it definitive and full of proof. :?:

TZF care to come up with some reason why you think I might not have looked at evidence from both sides.
I have seen "evidence" from those nice people in ill fitting suits that knock on my door occaisonally giving out gods information leaflets. Despite their "evidence" I still remain unconvinced by creationism.

Ok thats an extreme illustration, but I have yet to see in this thread or elsewhere any robust evidence to counter my conclusion that global warming is largely man made. If you have any evidence to support your view please post it.

Very surprised how much ignorance/trolling is going on here. Thought my fellow forumites were more enlightened than TZF etc.

Global warming is happening, it is (to a large extent) manmade. It will knack up large areas in the equatorial region and cause much more volatile weather patterns in other areas.
Deforestation, overpopulation and energy food scarcity are going to give us a very interesting century!

    No_eyed_dear: Two answers pick one!

"why do people buy 6 inch full suspension bikes to ride round firetrails with no idea what compression and rebound settings do?

    OR

"green camera mode gives very good results and avoids any really bad pictures if you are not familiar with F-stops and apperture or obscure camera settings. Yet you still get the intelligent focus, speed and glass quality of an SLR"

Though I don't personally use it, I know many people with "good" cameras that never take it off full auto.

Midlife, your last post just confirms what I said. You need to step up to the D90 (or equivalent in other brands) level. These give you exposure info in viewfinder and are a LOT less fiddly to change settings on than the entry level DSLRs (which assume you are going to use them on green camera full auto idiot mode 90% of the time).

Nikon user here too, but its mainly aesthetics and build quality on my D80 that swung me over. Now I use Nikon I couldn't be without the wireless flash (creative lighting in nikon jargon) that it offers.

Modern cameras in the middle segment (D80 or now D90 and equivalent models from other brands) are probably what you want to aim for. Why? Well the cheaper models (D60 etc) don't have the manual controls as easy to access as on the lower-mid range models. My camera alows me to set it from full auto to full manual easily, or anywhere in between. It has enough dials and buttons to easily set every option by just holding down a button and spinning a dial. The lower models often need you to delve into menus to set stuff more often.

I have to say that fish and chips in Leeds are the best in the country from my experience. The weird thing is that even on the East coast (Scarborough, Brid, Whitby) the fish and chips are not as nice as in Leeds.

Personal favourite chippys are: Coes in Crossgates, Skyliner just off J46 M1 (Colton) and for eat in fish and chips, the Three Horseshoes pub just of J30 M62. The fish and chips at the three horseshoes are BETTER than in the famed Magpie in Whitby.

Trout, sorry to distract you for a bit from you mission last night.
The light is amazing and the dog slightly blinded!

For all concerned I can confirm that the smaller battery fits perfectly into a lumicycle Elite pouch, with room to hide any spare cable. Snug perfect fit.

The CRC and Charge ads are really annoying, and make my fans on my PC spin up. Please STW, this is not a bunch of wingers asking you to cut off your income stream, its just a bunch of STW users asking whoever designs the ads to take some account of processor load.

If I am running my laptop on battery having the STW forum open cuts my batterylife down by 35%, its amazing how processor intensive those **** videos are. I really wish STW would ditch them and the chain reaction constantly moving sale banner. WE ALL KNOW WHERE CRC is thanks, in fact I have several rusty soggy items from their flood sale. I don't need to have my laptop battery work overtime to remind me of an irish bike shop. ;-)

Agree that the BBC should have this nutter on. Air his views and challenge them. Ernie, of course it ain't Paxman, but QT can often be more aggressive than Newsnight. If you don't want this scum on TV then they should be outlawed. Whilever they are on voting papers then they are legitimate, and the BBC should give them a slot.

Scott, paul made the casings, that carried the logo that was designed by monty, passed to me who had it converted to cad, who passed it to trout, who passed it to paul so he could engrave a case with a trout so that troutie could fit LEDS built by koreans with a yank driver and a midlands battery…..phew. Lots of people have touched this project. Paul, Troutie and Smudge are the main ones though!

ton…just to cheer you up, I stalked a random biker this morning, thinking it was you!
Had dropped wife off in stourton for work, saw a bloke that looked like you on a black bike (not ragley, carrera actually…sorry!). Am sure he waved as I passed, so pulled in near the farm entrance opposite the motor auction to wait for him (you?)…he pulled allong side…followed by a quick "sorry mate I thought you were someone else". Oh well that explains why hit took him so long to ride the 300 yards to the car!
