Just back from a day driving in the snow in mine (kids and dog sledging to Roundhay). The way it handled the ice was amazing. Drove up the sheet ice outside Rothwell Park too. I only got mine in april, so this was my first chance to try its 4WD properly.
As a family car they are brilliant. MPG for the D5 auto is just over 30. It’s a fantastic “place” to be in. Comfy heated leather seats, fab stereo and DVD’s for the kids. Towbar for the bikes. The perfect active family car.
I do my own maintenance. A set of rear discs, pads and handbrake shoes was just over £150 from FRF Volvo delivered. Not cheap, but they are a casting work of art…vented disc , with housing for the shoes built in.

The Kashmir went downhill for a while (like about 10 years ago or more). I started going again after a thread on here about a year or two ago. It’s back up there as top curry place in my book.

Also bear in mind that kW for kW gas is about half to a third the cost of electricity.

A 60gb high speed SSD drive for my PC and a couple of new badminton rackets for the kids.

Nonk is right. This happens. I KNOW people who have had kids to get council housing. We need to support people with kids, and coming from a working class family I absolutely abhor elitism, but I can’t stand idleness either.
That said a teenage mum with a council house extorts less than a tax dodging cash only builder or a zurich based banker. So loopholes and false incentives need closing wherever they exist.

Do we need an STW Kashmir curry evening?

@Elfinsafety@ Yes the Kashmir on Wilton Street/Morly street near the Alhambra. The drunken Omar Sharif look alike that works there is worth the trip alone. The onion bahji and fish pakora are amazing.

Really I think its two things:
The fact he is about to become a David Cameron nominated peer makes anything he says open to more attack than usual by the labour party.

I also think people take exception to the term “breeding”, but I don’t.

To me his point wasn’t about the poor really, what he was saying was that the middle classes would be put off having children. I agree with this.

Thats shocking. Doesn’t he realise that the poor don’t need any encouragment to breed.

    Ridiculously out of touch.

I bought a 2005 model XC90 in April ( D5 Auto with DVD, towbar and winter pack). Fab car for a family. REALLY looking forward to the snow and ice so I can get to use the 4×4!
I run a small economical car midweek and save the XC90 for times when I need to fit multiple bottoms in the car.

When 16gb memory cards are so cheap I would stick with a pile of SDHC cards. If I must then I would take a small 320gb USB powered drive.

Simmer for as long as you can, at least an hour.
And of course it is ALWAYS better the next day.

    iDave in his restaurant:

    😉

Almost forgot, I also added a tsp of dried mixed italian herbs (oregano etc).
Would normally add bacon/lardons/ASDA bacon bits, but didn’t have any in and the recipe was fab without.

The blending of the veg, before adding to the mince is really good, you don’t have to mince to oblivion if thats your preference, but you don’t want any big bits in there or it won’t coat the pasta.

On a serious note the following are lovely in spag bol sauce:
Porcini mushrooms and a couple of teaspoons of cocoa powder (last tip given to me by a flavour chemist!)

    CHB

    yes, and the chicken liver.
Is it not accepted now that spag bol is a much abused term for a thing involving tinned tomatoes and a bit of beef mince?

Of course, add tinned kidney beans and it becomes chile con carne
    😉

Never confident cooking beef. I like it pink, but family would like it nuked from space.
Had some lovely sirloin steak from the local butcher in Woodlesford yesterday. Spag bol (my speciality today…with secret ingredients.)

Whats the best way to do a beef joint?

    Sainsburys curries are rubbish.
M&S ones are suprisingly good value.
We never expect much from a home cooked curry, just a jar and a couple of chicken breasts.
If we want proper curry then Bradford Kashmir beckons!

Went into leeds today to try and play with an Olympus EP1. There are non in the shops, just a few online. I played with other Olympus models and the poor quality screen was a real let down.
Comet at crown point had a Sony model on offer, much better screen.
The bloke in Jessops on the headrow was very helpful, pointed out the Samsung NX10, also the new Nikon G12 rival looks good, though I would still go for G11 or G12.
My plans of getting a cheap EP1 with a pancake lens have been thwarted. Will wait for the Nikon D90 replacement and then upgrade my D80.

    Small cameras…not at the moment!!

Roach is correct, hole is a drain hole. Pipe goes down to the compressor/motor and fills a trough that sits on top of the compressor.
The heat from the compressor causes the water to evaporate.
If the trough inside the fridge is not free draining its normally black mold that has blocked the pipe up.
You need a thin wire (old net curtain wire is ideal) to clear the blockage. Then a teaspoon of bleach or two to kill the mold.
Soap and water after that to get rid of bleach smell.

My mate has one. The fact that the 3g is included and IS FREE TO THE USER is a big plus point. It means you can be on holiday on a beach overseas and still gain access to new books, much better than wifi tethered device.
The screen is very clear, though I spent the first couple of minutes trying to treat the screen like a touchscreen device. I had to lapse back into 1990’s buttons mode to use it properly.

    Very good device though.

£400 a week to spend on rent/mortgage. Thats a huge amount of money for the state to fork out. House share or move to somewhere cheaper, thats what working folk have to do.
