I got a double defence and a regular nobby nic in the one one sale.
The sidewall on the double defence snakeskin is VERY stiff, almost like a runflat tyre!

Havn’t riddnen them in anger yet.

Those 26″ Scandals are fantastic value. Definately get that instead of an Inbred/456.
I nearly bought a 16″ one for my son as a “grow into it” frame to replace his 14″ white inbred.

Theres an bike tour bloke in Quillan near toulouse.
    Bloke is from Leeds originally.

My brother has a house in Quillan, I can try and find more details if you like.

Not sure you could polish it out without ruining the screen.
Theres an article in the latest Focus magazine (just out) that says that capacitive touch screens have a semiconductor coating on them to function. Now I don’t work for apple, but my guess is that polishing off this layer will NOT improve functionality.

    B. It’s not the images that put people off this site its the posturing and keyboard strops of a few members.

Can’t be bothered reading this, but I object to censoring of this forum unless hugely offending.
The restrictions on language and topics would make this a place not worth visiting or contributing to.

The main thing I find offensive on this forum is TJ’s blinkered view on life. I know he’s scotch, but does he need to be so dour?

    😀

Yes I would have got it.
It’s slightly crazy though that GCSE’s like English Lit, Music and Art are not counted. Surely these are as valid as Geography or History or even a Language.

Though the price sounds high, I would not worry about the service history. Why? Well, when a car was new it would not likely to have missed its services. You are saying its these first ones that are not recorded, but the later three ARE. So it is likely that these are fine.

Main thing at 5 years old and on 40-50 k is brakes and tyres. It’s likely that discs/pads and tyres could be worn as brakes do 40-50k before death and the car is probably on its second full set of tyres.

If the car is generally tidy then go for it (if price is OK).

    This site is your friend….

    http://www.software4students.co.uk/Windows_7-software.aspx

I just installed for my son (secondary school).

Took a while for it to be posted, but it is a genuine copy of windows.

I have these on my 29er. Chain reaction were selling them off in the flood damage sale. They are fine. They are two pot NOT one pot.
For the price I paid (£35 an end) I would definately buy again.
I too read the crap reviews and so far they are not justified.

    I get around 30mpg from my XC90 163bhp D5 auto.
    I would think a D5 V70 would be mid 30’s.

Purely personal view, but I think it will hover around 1.20 for the forseable future. Why?
Well UK hopefully will improve its situation as far as international markets are concerned, but not vastly different to EU average.
Germany doing very well, but dragged down by badly performing EU countries.
Unless we get a double dip, then all bets are off!

The Acer Timeline range really are very nice, especially if you can get discount on one!
They are very slim and have great battery life. They also have metal lid and a very slim screen.
However neither of the pc’s you have highlighted are for gaming. They are both fine for web, iplayer and MS Office.

I would get the Acer as the battery life, total silence and aesthetics of Timeline PCs are worth the extra £50-£100 over other PC’s.

If you want to game then you have to accept much shorter battery life and more fan noise.

scotia, if you can get a kindle, it will definately work with your UK account from Swiss teritory. My mate was using his UK one on the beach in Egypt last month (sending me emails and downloading newspapers) with no problems.
I am not sure if you need to buy the device from the UK to log onto a UK account, they MAY be country specific, or like Ipads they may be worldwide identical.

Bought a Canon MP560 a couple of months ago, blown away with the quality. Individual ink tanks too!!!

Also does wireless scanning…have not tried that though!

It works on all the PC’s and laptops in the house. Brilliant bit of kit.

I would guess that everready are not great quality.
What you really need if you are into your rechargable batteries is this:

For batteries 7dayshop are OK, but not the best.

These days I use Sanyo Eneloop, still the best on the market (though others are probably as good by now).

    Here is a good shop:

    OK another couple from me:

Volvo V70R, the mad bonkers AWD monster one.

Any Jaguar with a crazy big V12 (the old XJS, or the mean saloon my mate had with the menacing grill and about 15 turbos fitted to it).

I also think the smart cars will be classics in future, bit like bubble cars would be today.

Rather than a netbook (horrible crippled things), have a look at Acer Timeline laptops. There are some out there with 6-8 hour battery life and they are proper laptops with 14-15 inch screens. I bought mine in Tesco last year for £399.

Sorry last nights thread title confused everybody!
I suppose where I was trying to get to (and many of you followed) was a car that will have a story and be remembered in years to come.
That might be because it was a particularly good example of its type (eg S2000 has to be about the best roadster out there), or will turn heads in the future, I particularly like the idea of a SWB Audi Quattro ragging its way round North Yorkshire in 30 years time when all the other cars are electric and silent!.
Thats why for me its the BMW M Coupe: Big proper engine, quirky looks and solid build quality. One day I will buy one!

I didn’t really mean to focus on “exotic” cars (over £60,000?).

So what else makes the list?

    CHB

Didn’t really mean pinnacle (ie most expensive and technically advanced), but the cars above are exactly what I meant: CARS THAT WILL REMAIN IN OUR HEARTS IN 30-40 YEARS TIME.

If I found you in my house un-invited then I would expect you to be leaving in handcuffs in the back of a big police van after being licked to death by my Labrador.

Though to be fair the guy in question seems to be quite different from the types you find in Leeds.

Hairychested: if the oil is in spec then it will be ok for a few 1000 miles. I tend to use oil made by Carlube as thats what my local place in Kippax stocks. I buy the best synthetic oil they make for whatever car I am working on. My volvo is at 164,000 miles and is still running sweet.

    Either play.com or 7dayshop.

Just bought a cheapish 4gb Sandisk 20mb/s one and though it is meant to be the same speed as other class 6, it is definately faster.

    coconut boost bars.

+1 on the proper double deckers with the solid base.

Also jelly tots are no longer jelly. They are made from modified starch and no longer have gelatine in them.

Some of the varta ones are very good apparently.
I always use Bosch ones from Costco and have had no trouble with them.
If the battery is over 5 years old and has been deep discharged (flattened!) a few times then it has probably had its day and its time for a new one. UK stocks of batteries must be low at the moment, I know several people who have needed new ones in the past month.

Probably the wrong tyres. Also note that the cirmumference of the tyres will be different to the old ones (not because of wear). The middle number (40 in your case) is not a measurement. Its a ratio of wall height as a %age of width. So a 235/40 will have a larger diameter than a 225/40. I suggest you check your handbook, if the tyres fitted are not listed then ask the garage to change them.

Gooner, the Kindles are bespoke to Amazon, but they are better than sony in this regard. The £149 kindle has FREE (well paid for by Amazon with no contract ever) worldwide 3G access. My mate who has one was able to download newspapers and books from the beach in Egypt and send emails to me FOC using the google mail function.
The screen on the kindle is much better than an ipad for lots of reading. There are also lots of free/cheap books available on Kindle.

I am not a massive book reader, so think I would get better use out of an ipad or macbook air, but if I was buying then it would be the £149 kindle.

There are also ways of getting hacked/torrented books onto the kindle. I don’t know how to do that though.

Gooner, only one worth looking at is the Kindle (and the £149 one at that). My bruv and best mate have one. They are very good if you read a lot. However despite being an affirmed gadget freak I won’t be getting one. Instead I shall wait for Ipad V2 in april and get that instead and install Kindle reader software.

Knowing you as the gadget fellow you are I recomend you do the same!

4×4 and ecomomical will be a challenge!

How many miles per year will you drive?
Roughly what size car are you after (fiesta/focus/mondeo/van)?

Snowboards will go on or in most cars, as will bikes if theres only one or two of you.

Tell us a bit more about what you are after and I am sure the STW folk will help.

No Really bad ones out there.
If you want a system then Nikon and Canon have best support.
IF you just want a camera with no plans for extensive numbers of lenses and separate flash units then any from Pentax/Sony etc will be good. Buy something in the sale.

    Personally I use nikon.

Ton, how about something with an 18″ frame so that me or Martin can have it when you are finished 😉

All the best for Xmas sir from the other side of LS26.
