Prefer carbon fibre. Kent Erikkson would be my choice though.

The cube is nice in a weird minimalistic way. The other car that makes me smile is the KIA soul. ever since a friend pointed out to me that it’s name sounds like key arsehole.

So….more pics of the juke? anyone own one?

Really difficult one. Those directly involved in living with alcoholics either fall into the self denying supportive camp OR the angry push them away and let them burn camp. I have been in both.
Ultimately the change has to come from the drinker. The bit I don’t know is how to get the drinker to realise this! I think alcoholism is genetically predisposed and alkies are natures best liars.
My dad died just before my 18th birthday of this, my mum was in one camp, me in the other. I do think that positivity works better in replacing alcohol than bullying and threats. hope this helps a little.

Darcy, me thinks you overestimate you ability to wind up.
Molgrips, modesty prevents me answering! But back then just having a car was enough. Doubt an Austin Metro would work these days.

More pics of the Nissan PUKE please!

(It’s a shame its gopping as it is made in the UK).

Just for reasons of scientific rigour, I have enlisted the help of the youths in the house.
Sample size of two, responses. were….. super uncool, and “dad that thing is ugly”
The very youthful and stylish mrs HB also hates it and thinks it’s the kind of thing that would never impress a girl.

So there you go. Buy a juke of you want your children to hate you and your sex life to shrivel up to zilch.

Volvos however…built like tanks and just crying out to be filled with children and dogs.

You see Darcy, If you are NOT young and trendy then you really don’t know.
For me the Nissan JOKE is like the dads tshirt aisle in ASDA, ill designed poor quality tat with a vague attempt at youthfulness, designed to sell to fat pizza eaters to play their Kerry catona CD’s in.

(actually I am a fat pizza eater, and even I don’t like that damn car).

Mine was the basic 2 litre non turbo. It was as slow as hell, and the gear shift was very well spaced out. I sold it in 1999 for the only ever Ford I owned as it had started to rust behind the front wheel arches.
The ford was a 1998 fiesta zetec. That car has put me off fords for life. Exhaust rusted in 2 years, brakes siezed and it started to rust.

My 13 year old V40 is still on its first exhaust after 166000 miles!

Darcy…yes theres a contract sewn inside the tongue of our slippers!

I am slightly unusual in buying cars as I do all my own repair work and serviceing, so I get an appreciation for the build quality as well as the more obvious attributes.

Volvos are well screwed together, nice to work on and made from quality components. Aesthetics is personal!

Still that Juke is uglier than your moms ugly friend!

Not a fan of SAAB. Anything post 1995 is really based on GM technology and has been well behing the other major brands.
My old F reg 900 was built like a tank, but had all the performance, poise and elegance of a russian tank factory worker, and drank like one too.
Still it was gold and was quirky.

Nissan Juke is the worst looking car since Toyota did that hideous RAV4 thing with a mock pickup back. In 10 years time thankfully they will have gone the same way as Fiat Multiplas (actually nice in a fugly way) and old citroens.
Cheap crap cars for people with no dicerning taste.
I have two Volvos, and one of them only needed a part changining (cambelt tensioner) because Ford made them spec it to last 80k miles. IF I had a slightly older XC90 then the volvo part was built for life.

as above, no ferrules on top tube. full, uncut outer cable passes through.

    CHB

erm…I have same frame. it is continuous cable run to rear. Any standard fittings are ok at the ends. I have a reel of shimano outer cable so length was not a problem. if you buy a “kit” then often they come with precut sections.

Molgrips, no its a 1.6FSI A2. The A2 is a brilliant car, well ahead of its time, and not classed as a proper Audi by Audi dealerships.

    CHB
    Full Member

I have an Audi 1.6FSI that gets real world 48MPG. I bank on 10 miles per litre in normal use, thats 400miles out of one 42 litre tank.

On a long run at steady 60mph it will get well over 50mpg.

Thats measured on tank refils, not on the trip computer (they always lie!)

Its fine to charge in the car, never had any problems with my trickly charger.

I have one of these and its brilliant:

yossarian, I think we may be about to get banned from STW. Isn’t there something in the T&C’s about not being allowed to agree with TJ? That’s two agreements in the space of 5mins. We might break the Internet.

    CHB
    Full Member

TJ, I agree with you on that. I suppose my assumption is that his official training would never sanction that behaviour. However custom and practice may be entirely different and this may be normal behaviour. Doesn’t make it ok though.

    CHB

Yes there is a problem in the MET of thuggish behaviour. But what about individual responsibility?

    CHB

TJ, the video says it all for this case. The officer was clearly out of order. If it hadn’t been for the multiple videos of this act then it would not have gone this far. I do accept however that the MET have some vicious sods in their ranks and violence against the public is more common than it should be.

Buy a second hand one on Ebay, there are bargains to be had. You could always get it remade into a new ring. MrsHB recently bought a half carat VS Millenium cut Goldsmiths ring for £350. You simply won’t get better value than that. And don’t worry about it not being “new”, how old do you think the diamonds are in the first place!

I always fancied hooking up a trailer rear wheel to bushless e-bike motor and putting the batteries in the trailer.
With a long and quick coupling controler you could still control the throttle from the handlebars.
It would be either great fun or great danger. Will build one one day!
