    I have a couple of Audi A2’s.
Now theres a car that shows the effect of R&D costs VS Unit sales effects margin.

The tooling costs were huge, sales were low as people didnt appreciate the tchnology.
The same factory now makes the R8 for a much higher price!

    The tech:

I look forward to driving though Harrogate in my little Audi A2 with winter tyres on, while all the eejits with auto BMW’s and fat summer tyres can move no more than a few inches.

After seeing winter tyres in action in Finland last march, I am a convert.
Bought a set of spare alloys, had them powdercoated and ready to fit this winter.

The snow melted two days after this picture and prompted our glorious summer. I like to think my tyres were a talisman for the fine weather!

Its the only hifi range that makes Bose look like good value.
Their shop in Leeds has recently closed and my only surprise is that they ever stayed open as long as they did.
Buy proper hifi and not some over stylised scandanavian tat.

Spitting Image is needed for NOW. Got me interested in politics as a kid.

The other one I loved was The New Statesman, with Alan B’Stard. I know now we have The Thick of It, but thats not my kind of wit…its too close to reality and often no funnier than watching real politicians.

Just back from 2 weeks in Florida. The Americans have no concept of lane discipline. All three lanes would have traffic in them (four lanes in some cases), with everyone doing below the speed limit. No one pulls into a an inside lane even if theres lots of space and no one moves over for faster vehicles. Its like they have no mirrors or awareness of other traffic around them…..its the only time I have ever been glad to see the M62.

If they are protected by mistake, i could “accidently” bark ring them next time I deliver your supply of tea (to your neighbour….again!)

I have first hand experience of this. Unless it was a VERY close family member I would just let them get on with their own merry demise. The number of alcoholics that turn themselves around is very low.

A great loss to the world of comedy….Mel Smith, Dave Allen, Spike Milligan…yet Victoria Wood is in fine health.

You modified it and didnt reassemble properly (or notice existing damage when faffing).
You faff, you break, you own!

In true STW world style, I shall ignore your budget concerns!
My OH is a pianist. We have a Yamaha Clavinova (quite a posh one, but even the basic ones are fine).

Clavinovas are the best digital pianos on the market and don’t need tuning. If you buy a second hand one then you will loose very little when you come to sell it. So that’s what I would buy.

Personally I mever flush an engine.
The solvents and oils in the flushing stuff will remain in the engine after flushing. This will corrupt the new oil and change its behaviour (a bit like a small amount of wd40 will thin down a lot of gunk on your bike chain).
If your oil is really bad then I would just do a straight change with cheap oil of the correct viscosity and then change it again in a few weeks or months.
That way you progressively dilute and remove any nasties in the old oil.

Its the effort that counts, no the edibility.

Best cars I have had have been from Doctors or retired people in posh areas

70 years ago, if I was to be in the RAF I would much rather have had crush83’s job….slightly higher life expectancy.

Certain its the way round I said. Apparently the paper had space for both possible x and y values. Is this extra hard by GCSE standards?

My son is in YR10, but is part of a group taking maths early.
Good luck with your own GCSE’s, with grades like you are hoping for the world is your oyster.
Hope you do fab in A levels too.

@gofasterstripes. I think maths by exam is the right way.
For history and english certainly not the right way.
Science mainly exam, with a small amount of lab assesment.

Wife had already solved it. International Baccalaureate beats late 1980’s comprehensive education.
And still we think that education in the UK doesn’t need a kick up the backside!

Still impressed with how close HB junior got!

Think you are wrong, but not by much.
I bought an app for the ipad called quickgraph.

That shows the answer to be approx -.84 and +2.88

Buggered if I can rearrange the formula to do it from first principles.

Shocked by how much I have forgotten in nearly a quarter of a century.

As a child I was often left outside pubs by my parents. The special pub cordial might have rotted my teeth and the seebrook crisps done me no benefit, but my parents would never have left me alone in a hot car. Cars in summer are brutal places to ne left and small infants are very prone to dehydration.

The greens in Germany are much more of a mainstream party and have a good contribution to make. I think more greens in the UK would do more good than harm. I agree some of their policies are a little hair shirt and lentil for the mainstream voter, but at least its a shove in a more sustainable direction .

To be fair, after being knockced off you were probably in shock and not thinking straight. In these circumstances its hardly surprising that in haste you took a wad of notes waved in your face. Once the shock subsided you probably now have a clearer view on the matter.

I think in future car batteries will be part of a smart grid. Storing up wind and solar energy when parked and then selling it back to the grid at the advert break for corronation street, then charging up again overnight.
All controlled from a smartphone so you can tell the car your travel plans to ensure it always has enough charge for your itinery.

Not sure about the outside, but the passenger seat was brown by the time I brought it back. Hybrid cars should not be this much fun. A real Jeckyl and Hyde car.

Yes 0-60 in 5.8 seconds in power mode apparently.
I drive a lot and drive many different cars. This was without doubt the best driving car I have driven (have not driven many sports cars). The hybrid characteristics are invisible and rhe braking is just the same as a normal car.
Best bit was the suspension, firm, but supple. Almost like it was adaptive.

Sold on the concept. Just the not small issue of price.
