I got the Knipex last month after someone posted a PSA about them. Great piece of kit! Dremels are great, get a cordless one (the lower powered one is fine I found). Having it cordless means it gets used for countless small jobs.
So far I am not looking at the list above and thinking…hmmm…. Must buy.

oh…is it just me that has gone down this “list” and mentally ticked off “yes, yes, yes, no….hmmm, must buy”?

My two are 17 and 14. Not sure when they stopped believing, probably about 7 or 8. However when asked I said “IF you don’t believe in Santa then don’t write a nice letter to him and see if you still get presents”.
They both still write a letter even now!

Blair for many of the reasons given above. Having followed this closely at the time, and subsequently I believe he made a promise to Bush and then manipulated the facts AND parliament to get agreement for us to send in troops.
He should be in court, but sadly probably never will.
Bush only wanted to go into Iraq as a personal vendetta against Saddam, it had nothing to do with national security or 911.

Eric Pickles… messed up Bradford, now messing up the country.

You just need more tools: commonly used tools in a toolbox/tote. And full sets in a tool chest or worktop. I use Halfords tool chest things with drawers and some plastic crates for storage from Costco. selection of tools (strimmer and Makita power saw) are hung from ceiling.

Student Christmas ball. Lots of free wine on the table (Elland Road, Leeds). I got to the point of drunkenness where its either dance or wake up under the table.
    Think she did the same.
    My dance moves impressed her.
Either that or we both needed someone to lean on to stay upright.

Weddings should either be about “do it with the minimum number of people with no fuss” or “do it near friends and family and have a right old shindig”. If you want to get married in Vegas or somewhere exotic then don’t be surprised if people can’t afford it (or for that matter choose not to afford it).
We go married 3 miles from where I grew up and had all the family at the venue with lots of booze supplied. That’s the recipe for a good wedding IMHO. Heck…it’s 20 years next month!

I got one last week on launch day (my early Xmas present to ME!).
I went for the base M3 model as I never do anything more than t’internet, mail, office and Netflix, all of which it handles with aplomb.
I love the silence of it and the fact that it doesn’t feel like a hot water bottle like my Surface Pro 1 did.
The screen is amazing, and the new trackpad is good too. Overall very happy. I bought from John Lewis to get the two year warranty.

Another vote for lots of cumin here, it really makes the chilli. I use whole cumin seeds and then pummel them in a mortar and pestle before adding to the chilli. 3 heaped table spoons in a large pan full is not excessive.
Anchovies, instant coffee, cocoa all add to the flavour complexity too.

I might have bought a Superstar mini Torque wrench last year and in order to “test it” went to adjust the magura MT4 brake levers on my new electric bike. The brake levers are held in place by a proprietary bolt/nut thing with a torx hole in it.
With the torx wrench on the lowest setting I kept tightening, waiting for the click. It never clicked and I might have wrecked the bolt.
Lesson is that Superstar mini-torque wrenches have a head that flops a few degrees, and don’t go “click” at the correct torque.

With regard to Talk Talk taking a hard line with customers who wish to cancel their service with them, surely the consumer rights act covers their desire to cancel if they are dissatisfied?
    http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act

Anyone care to argue that Talk Talk have provided their service with reasonable care and attention? Or that their exit fees don’t represent unfair contract terms?

Around £65 here for line rental, phone,SKY fibre unlimited and Sky HD with all channels (inc movies), but no sport or multiroom.
We were paying just over £40 for fibre and phone, but Sky offered full TV package including sport for £24 a month for a year. I said I didn’t want sport, so the price came down by a whopping £2 to £22 extra. It’s worth £20 or so a month for Sky TV and a decent Sky box, but when you can have amazon prime AND netflix combined for around £15 a month it looks very poor value for money at anything close to “full price”.

Aracer: I would be eternally shamed if we ever used Trident in anything other than a retaliation. The idea of nuking other none nuclear countries is a none starter to any civilised country (I hope!). Hiroshima/Nagasaki are exceptions to this IMHO. At the time these two bombs were used, the USA (and the world) was not aware of the full effect of these weapons, so I think they were used as much as a demonstration of force as for any other reason. The fact that America has never used them since (even in Vietnam where the politics were hostile and the enemy viewed as “subhuman”) shows that even the USA appreciates that nukes should never be brought into conventional warfare.

Be yourself, but try to anticipate what the recruiter is looking for and demonstrate how you meet their needs more than any other candidate possibly could. Apply your past experience to the current and future needs of the recruiter.
Apear ambitious for yourself i.e. “I want to develop, learn new skills, take on big responsibilities to drive success”, but don’t give the impression that the role is a stepping stone in your career.
Smile, be confident and mirror the behaviour of the interviewer.
This is all generic stuff, would need to know more on the job and your suitability to help further. Good luck!

Junkyard, the dodgy/illegal/futile deployment of our brave military since 2003 is a national shame (Tony Blair for the Hague!). But Trident for me is a different argument, it’s about being able to have a shared finger on the MAD button. It’s a horrendous proposition, but in the world of Putin and other despots that have not even risen to prominence yet, Trident is the ultimate deterrent against the deployment of a weapon that already exists by a future nutter.

I wish we lived in a nuclear weapon free world. We don’t.
So for me we need Trident (or equivalent) to act as a “don’t mess with us” deterrent. It’s the old Irish saying that sums up the logic of renewing it: “Speak softly and carry a big stick”.

“Theres a big difference between 5 years experience and one years experience repeated five times.”
Reminds me never to get stale in a job.
I also like a lot of John Ruskin quotes, especially:
There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man’s lawful prey.

The idealist in me believes that all schools should be raised to outstanding.
I went to a comprehensive with sets based on ability and did OK. My kids now go to a local comprehensive and are doing really well. Any caring/involved parent will always pick the best school available in the area for their kids and do what they can to support their kids. That’s only natural.
I valued me (and my kids) going to a school with a cross section of society rather than a rarefied semi-elite.
The real problem is that many parents are rubbish and set no expectations and boundaries to their offspring and give them no support or inspiration to value education. Kids in the UK really need to see how kids in India and China value education to see how lucky they are to have a good quality state system.
If I was education secretary I would put extra money into schools to support FSM kids to get to the same standard and expectations as their non free school meal fellow pupils. The gap in attainment is really a national shame.

    stir fry!
    Cook some rice beforehand.
Fry the chicken, onions and garlic in a wok.
Add soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, ginger etc to taste.
Then chuck in the rice and a load of frozen peas.

Rice, chicken and pea stir fry…quick and tasty.

Terminating cables is easy (if you have ever wired up a 3 pin plug neatly then you have the skills!). I bought a 100m reel from Amazon for £50. If buying cable make sure it is copper core. There is some evil stuff out called “copper clad aluminium” (CCA) which is much cheaper but is not up to the job.
I agree that some of the TP-Link stuff has iffy reviews. I have one of the older square box ones and it’s been fine for the last 2 years.

The wireless access points have a few different modes.
The mode seosamh77 refers to is repeater. This is where you set it up at the edge of the range of the existing wifi network and it will basically act like a relay station playing wifi chinese whispers. This is fine for many people, but it does double the data flow on the wifi channel as every packet of data has to be received and then sent on again from the repeater.
Hardwiring the access point with CAT5/6 means that the packets of data are only sent on wifi once, the rest being done on much faster gigabit cable. For most application this won’t matter (ie spotify of basic video), but as I wanted to have some quite data intensive stuff on the extended network (backup and HD CCTV) I opted to take the strain of the wifi and run a simple cable.

I have a £25 TP-Link wifi node. I have it set with the same WIFI network name as my sky router and the same password (but manually select a different channel). This plugged into a £12 gigabit switch at whichever dead spot you need to cover will do the job and tablets and laptops will switch to the strongest signal without hassle. I did originally have them set up with different WIFI network names, but the problem was that if a device had been used in the the garden on the garden network, then it would hang onto that network if I came indoors, despite the fact that the indoor WIFI network was much stronger signal. Setting them both to the same network ID and password seems to have given me the result I wanted.
