The strata on Sharp Edge is the wrong way, so there is always the feeling that a slip in the wet is imminent. Good walk though. Personally I like the Hall's Fell ascent.

    Lovely pic LGB.

Get rid of it, NOW. That's why it's been trashed.

It might, repeat might, be a Stagshorn Sumach (Rhus typhina). They have those purple cone type things. If it is, and piccies will be needed to confirm, then get rid of it. It is a vicious, vigorous sucker creating plant. In some US states it is illegal to grow it other than in a container. It will ruin your lawn, putting out suckers that try to shoot. Your mower will cut the young leaves, and so it will make more. You will then finish up with a great knotty lump just under the lawn. Not one lump, but many. A neighbour of mine had one growing in his back neighbour's garden, maybe 100' from his house. When he came back from his hols a sucker was growing up INSIDE his lounge.

If it is that, dig it, and as many roots as you can out. Roots left in can become new trees.

Edit, shucks beaten to it whilst typing that.

Strewth, me and sfb agree. I've just had a look at that section too. Can't say I'm impressed. Don't think anything there would make me go and do one of those rides.

If you're desperate and not some form of racing snake, I'm up there next Saturday, not made up my mind where yet. Mail me if you want a tour.

Is that the Ray Mazey who runs the courses at Rivi?

Yes. Just love that free advertising :o) Hope you don't say anything bad about me now :o)

    Have we met ChatsworthMusters ?

Yup. Came on one of your courses some years ago. Very good it was. Free publicity a speciality!!!

There is a maximum size that they will take. Something odd like the length plus circumference must not exceed 3metres. Check their website for accurate info. Some frames struggle to fit inside this with forks fitted.

note, the bottom 200m of the lower section of Moor Lane has not been touched yet and is an exciting rockfest!

Was down there a couple of weeks ago. I noticed the "sanitization" which certainly removed the big polished rock steps (which I'm glad they did), but didn't think the bottom bit was "exciting", just pleasant!

The first section now has a bypass contructed round the top of it. Looking at the number of gouges in the timbers it would appear that many riders couldn't make it across. Similarly the very last section, which was just as gouged, now has new timbers with a grippy coating on them. Reading between the lines the course designers got it wrong.

One of my favourite bits I have seen called Grandad, Dad and Dentist, as well as other things – from Parkamoor back over towards Satterthwaite. They have sanitized the bottom bit but it's still a great dh overall.

That becomes Moor Lane at the bottom. SFB complained voiciferously when it was tidied up. Claimed it made it too easy. So easy that he posted pics of one of his lot going a over t the other week!

Titty's track is NE of Carron Crag. Starts approx Gr 326 952 on my map shown as park plantation. Runs down to 330 943 near Park Piece. Comes onto the main drag, just near where the Scale Green track joins in.

Colthouse is south of Latterbarrow. I usually get to it from Base Camp, then follow the fire road to what the map calls Guide Post, then the westwards tending track to come out on the road at Colthouse Plantation, NE of Hawkshead.

Belle Grange you must know. From the top of Claife Heights go E/Ne almost stright downhill. The bottom section is all cobbles covered with leaves. I've never seen anyone clear that stretch. Most come off involuntarily down there.

You m ust know these by different names. What are they?

Grizedale is full of good downhills, if you look for them. Titty's Track, Lawson Park, Moor Lane, Belle Grange (bet you can't ride that without dabbing) Colthouse come off the top of my head.

Add in Nibthwaite, Breasty Haw, The Fox. So many to choose from.

Beginning and end are OK, but the fire-road and north shore stuff in the middle need to be bypassed with something better. And there's plenty better stuff in the forest if you know where to look. No real need to do NFT when riding in Grizedale.

You're right, it's one of my favourites, in fact I remember family holidays in the Lakes when I was 16/17 and I'd go out early before the rest of the family got up in order to do that loop.

I replied to a request on here a couple of years ago from a "southerner" who wanted a riding partner whilst on holiday. Came from the mountains of Cambridge, and I spent the day hanging on to his wheel. We did that bit after 35 miles and he just flew over it. Got my own back at the ford where he came off!!!

Good route but the bit of track under Lonscale is not for the faint hearted, in fact I've never seen *anyone* clear it

I have, but it wasn't me!!! But it's only a very short stretch, and the rest of the route more than compensates.

Whinlatter blue will give an idea of what she's capable of. Not a total beginner's track, but good fun. If she likes it you can do the south red loop afterwards.

Alternatively take the old railway to Threlkeld, up the valley almost to Skiddaw House, then come back under Lonscale Crags, and down the trees on the side of Latrigg.

He can't claim it back, so you're probably in a better position than using paypal. I always prefer bank transfer, much better from my point of view, and no fees for either party.

Like all sports it's the results that count, and he consistently gets the results. It's alway difficult to compare different generations, but it's very difficult to argue with him being the best ever. His 7 Moto GP titles have come on a range of different makes and engine sizes. He always seems to be able to get more out of the machinery than anyone else.

And unlike a lot of sportsmen he doesn't seem to be arrogant about it.

I've just re-read the original thread, and this thread now makes sense. I wonder how many others have done so?

Presumably the complainers looked to see who had died, and are disappointed that their ghoulish desires have not been fulfilled.

    Humour by pass indeed.

Went today, in the rain. Found the descent ^^^^ As there are signs saying "No cycling" I walked all the way down – honest. Wish I'd known about the rock step at the very end, the video doesn't really show that. Good job I was walking, otherwise I have had a "moment"!

FWIW I prefer Penmachno. It just has a more natural feel to it, especially loop 2, which has a lovely long singletrack. Not technically difficult, but good to ride, with a feeling of being rather remote. The last two sections are especially good.

    (I'm probably wrong though!)

I should be at Powter How by 9AM. Aim is the bridleway to pick up the blue, south, north then hopefully that descent ^^^ if I can find it. I'll be on a white P7, with the wrong tyres on!
