True – great vid. Just two weeks too late. A vid like that doesn’t get over 4 million hits without somebody here noticing it straight away  8)

Personally going from some 06 revelations to some 06 or 07? Marxocchi Z1s iI noticed a huge difference, but the Z1s are a whole different type of fork.

A mate switched from some Pace RC41s to Fox 36s and he honestly said that he seemed to be cornering too soon with the 36s as it appears experienced a delay with the RC41s – ie when he turned the bars the forks didn’t seem to follow staight away.

I have suggested the SingletrAction tuesday evening ride. We’ll see what comes of that.

What type of brake caliper is on there already?
You can run a single cable but the norm with a U brake is for it to split prior to the seat tube (think a bit like older cantilever brakes). The brake mounts must be on the u/s of the seat stay for this to work or on top of the chain stay.

Gyros are a pig to set up properly. If you want to remove it completely you may have to remove the top headset cup if the frame doesn’t have gyro tabs on the head tube.

    Cold – HP
Warm – Mushies and mint sauce.

Just remember kids, ‘daddies sauce’ is not an option :?

My kitchen scales weighed the SS at 5oz heavier than the regular 456 (16″ frames).

Are you sure you can’t use Royal Mail. Standard Parcels should sort the frame……

Not sure about the 4kg German package though…..

Yes, but you can ride them with softer shoes.

You can but you will feel the springs through the sole and it is not comfortable at all. They offer hardly any grip either this way.

Is this the same frame that was on Ebay a couple of weeks ago? I guess by your usernames it is. Did you give your address out to anybody?
(I was the one that enquired about the mech hanger BTW)

Had one on some older Revs. I thought it was a waste of time. I never really found the need to lock them out, but the one thing it does do is set your compression with the tension in the cable. In the end I removed it and used the barrel end of a gear cable through the hole in the fork crown to set the compression instead.

Is it a 456 stem? Mine wasn’t finished too well on the inside and had a slight ridge internally around the opening. A bit of wet and dry smoothed it flat. It may be worth checking for the same as it could mean it’s not clamping as well as it should.

I have a 27.2 and need to increase to 30.9. Thanks anyway. Short term will probably be to shim it out.

I think the problem with the surveying profession is that they are fairly old fashioned so to speak.

It’s a good point. I used to work in architecture and project management. I let my hair grow after getting the job. The directors did not like it one bit. Even though they never directly said anything the snide or sarcastic comments were plenty. In the end I got sick of working with people who had their heads up their own backsides and i am now a postman. Have been for 12 years now and don’t regret ‘dropping out’ one bit.

Amazing. I was just about to post the exact same thing. 27.2 up to 30.9 on my new frame.
The new frame states a minimum 4″ seatpost insertion so I will need a shim 4″ long. Wiggle are the only place I have found the size I need so far.
Are shims just a short term fix or a long term possibility?

Wife has watched this with a few tears today. Sadly it brings back too many bad memories of been at Valley Parade when the fire started.
The one thing she has commented on today after seeing the old Hillsborough footage on the news was the fact that those fences were there – they send shivers down her spine after having to climb over them as a 13 year old girl not knowing whether the other people she was with made it or not. Fortunately they did, but too many didn’t.

Both sad days that should never be forgotten.

A mate used a G clamp. Block of wood on the inside to spread the load and clamped away. Needed paint touching up after.

Yeah Druid, very true. It’s a bit like me as a postman. Everybody finds out about the wrongly delivered letter, but never mention all those that are correctly delivered every day.
Don’t get me wrong, i’m not out to slate them. I just want a bit of feedback before splashing the cash.

Mmmmm. Hardly confidence inspiring is it? Shame really, because they get such good reviews.

I suppose the question needs to be asked “What other brands have a reputation for failing” otherwise it’s a bit unfair outing just one brand.

I know of a guy who went through 4 swingarms on a Mount Vision, and has also snapped all the major frame components on his 5 Spot. All had good warranty back up though.

Max fork length mentioned for the 4, but how about the 5. I can’t see the info on the Commencal site. I have some Marz Z1 lights to use if I buy a Meta 5 frame. 150mm travel – not sure about axel to crown though.
    Can anybody advise. Thanks.

On One Growler just about to go up for sale in the classifieds if you want something different.

Thanks for the input Costello. Basically, I currently have an On-One Growler. Whilst I love the way the bike rides it’s a bit too heavy at just under 35lb with XT transmission, XTR brakes, XT AM wheelset, SDG I beam post and saddle and Marz Z1 lights (bit heavy but super plush). I cant’ really lose anymore weight on it so I’m looking at new frames. The Slayer seems a good deal, but so do the Commencals that Merlin do too.

Thanks for the input. I’ll try lock to lock.

As far as i’m aware it only has one setting for the PS but i’ll check the manual just in case.

    Trail building at Stainburn.

You should all try it some time  (if you are local of course). It’s very rewarding. My forearms now resemble those of a self harmer thanks to the rocks we have shifted today.

One of the french TDF teams were sticking out their tongues on climbs as they believe it opens up the airway more (obviously if you are breathing through your mouth).

Can you not buy SPD shoes and not fit the cleets?

I thought the same when I bought some Specialized Sawpit boots. I was wrong. The combination of the hard compound of the rubber and the rigid sole meant they were rubbish on flat pedals.

That ‘naked’ programme on the beeb recently had hairy chests up against non hairy chests. In general the hair free chest was more popular. The same chest was shown twice also, hairly and shaven. The hair free option on the same body was also considered more attractive.

My Mrs says she likes my rug so who am I to complain 8)

Single. It’s one of three (I would need to check the dates)
Either…Bad Manners – Can Can, Pigbag – Papas Got A Brand New Pigbag or DaDaDa by Trio.
The first album I owned was Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam And The Ants but the first album I spent my own cash on was the followup, Prince Charming.

Have one. Both kids have used it. Canal rides, Ae, Dalbeatie and Mabie green routes with no problems. The initial set up is a bit awkward, especially the clamps on the headtube.
Remember to take a wide berth when cornering.
Only other thing I would add is make sure the rear tyre on the kiddies bike is fairly solid to avoid punctures, and if you do get one remember to take something along to remove the rear wheel – not many kids bikes have QRs.

I remember a few of the older local lads having cowhorned bikes. I also recall bullhorns which were really wide. They all used knobblys too rather than road tyres. I was still on a Grifter whilst this was going on. It’s funny, that after been at the Gary Fisher thing recently, it would seem that this development of bikes was taking place all over.

One lad by the name of Jimmy Labdon used to do all sorts of stuff with bikes, He used to run two wheels on the front (like a lefty but fixed to one end of the hub on the outside of the forks). He was the first person I ever knew to fit a sidecar too. I think it is probably him that I have to thank for my liking of all things too wheeled.

Mojo, but do it online for free postage. You’ll pay £3 if you order over the phone. You will need all the dimensions to hand as well.
