    RM Slayer SXC…..

32lb. Could be lighter still with different forks and wheels but I like the confidence that they give me. Climbs well too.

Run a search for some reviews – hardly a bad word said about them.

Great thread guys – I missed it first time around.
Only saw the NMA once at St Georges Hall, Bradford, probably about 1987. I remember the ‘Family’ outside with their kitbags. They used to sell season tickets to get you into every gig on the tour, right? Still listen to their stuff and have a good selection on my player.
The Live 161203 DVD is worth buying. There is a good interview with Justin on it too as well as the gig.
I really regret not trying to get tickets for their Leeds Uni gig last year.

St Georges Hall was a bit of hot bed of good gigs during the late 80’s.
I can recall seeing New Model Army, The Cult, The Mission, Zodiac Mindwarp, Jesus And Mary Chain, Anthrax, Metallica and Megadeth to name a few.

Funny, what you forget about – Wild Willy Becket   Nutter.

What do you consider it’s ‘target market’ though? Judging by the amount of people in this thread that do read it I reckon it’s pretty much got everyone covered. BTW, i’m 37 but still think I am part of that target market.

MBUK subscriber for 4 years now. I dabbled with MBR and WMB for a while but usually only bought them if there was an article that held particular interest for me. If i’m honest, MBR is just boring. At the time I found STW a bit too ‘niche’.
Nowadays I swap my MBUKs for my mates STW and find the balance between the two just right. I do think that STW has had to move with times a little. There appears to be more ‘mainstream’ articles in there appealing to a wider range of readers.
The articles in this months MBUK (ex. learn how to freeride) will probably be repeated in 12 months time, just different pics and bikes, but I can handle that. Otherwise it is very up to date with everything that is going on.

Very smooth riding indeed. Those ‘tombstone’ jumps are just crazy.

Great music too. I reckon Empire Of The Sun and La Roux will be the soundtrack to my summer.

This is the last BMX vid that got me excited……

Didn’t you see it when you were about to ride over it?

No. If only life was that simple :D

The second lot was just as I rode over a fallen wall. Concentrating on the obstacle rather than chod factor. Knew I’d hit it as I smelt it straight away.

A quick tip….If you do your CBT on a twist and go, you won’t be able to ride anything else – geared motorbike or scooter.

You would be lucky to find a good Lammy for under a grand. Great to own if you handy with the tools, as they do take a bit of maintenance. The problem is the lack of workshops that are willing to touch them.
Also remember that if you are leaving it around all day, that they are as desirable as your pushbike. A lot don’t have ignition keys, and the steering lock is hardly duarable, plus those nice panels on the side – they are held on with nothing more than a handle.
Mine was registered as a 125 but actually had a 150 engine block with 175 cylinder head. Got about 80mpg on it.
Remember also, they have no indicators, which can be a pain, especially when you take your CBT.
I’m sorry if this all sounds a bit negative, but they really are for enthusiasts rather than every day use.
Can’t comment on Vespas or Bajas – sorry, not had one.

This was mine….Sold about 4 years ago. Pedal power all the way now.

The long termer that MBUK have weighs about 38lb. That, to me is too much for general trail riding. My last FS weighed 35lb and that was a slog. My new one is 32lb and much better as a ‘do it all and have a go at a bit more bike’. It’s still no XC whippet, but I still like the confidence that a few stronger parts offer.

It’s been in our office about 12 weeks now. The infighting between drivers and walking men has started again. Fatigue is starting to show and to cap it we have to start collapsing a walk on a daily basis on June 8th when we are all already doing 3 1/2 hour deliveries.

Still, it was a pleasure delivering in the sunshine this morning.

It’s usually only about £7 now anyway. There was a time when it was impossible to pick up any Metallica for less than about £15

If a letter is sent back ‘return to sender’ and it doesn’t have a return address on the outside of the envelope it goes into ‘confidential waste’ which eventually is incinerated. The only letters (without a visible return address) that get opened and checked for a return address are those with a postage stamp on it, so in future, if you do mark anything ‘not at this address’ or ‘return to sender’ and so on, make sure it has a return address on it by opening it if need be.

Our delivery office handles the returns for Damart, and trust me, there is no way that their database gets updated. We are talking hundreds and hundreds of catalogues returned on a daily basis.

Just to throw a spanner in the works – Has he looked at Rocky Mountain Slayer SXCs? I am really, really impressed with mine. Much along the same lines as the bikes listed.

I got on the U2 bandwagon following Live Aid. I still really like the old stuff, especially Boy and October. War never really clicked with me. Joshua Tree is a great album. Achtung Baby took a bit of getting used to but I really like it. Pop was good, some really good songs on it. Then it all went a bit downhill. Zooropa was poor and with the exception of two or three tracks, All That You Leave behind left me behind with it. I bought Vertigo and listened to it once, but went back to it after been blown away by No Line On The Horizon and realised Vertigo is a pretty good album too.
The new album, IMO is superb and I am really looking forward to seeing them in Sheffield in August.

Using Atera ones here. No problem experienced so far. Just make sure everything is tight. If I have two bikes on the roof I use a strap through both back wheels just to steady things up a bit more.

A mate snapped a set in anger – he got p***ed off on a ride and chucked his bike to the side of the trail. The bars broke. Hard to imagine how much angrier he could get after that – turning green maybe?

Does the ‘International’ still exist? (Morley Street I think – opposite Kashmir). I used to do lunch there on a friday and have often been back 12 hours later following a night on the town. Their chicken bhuna was class. Formica tables and curry stained tunics on the ‘waiters’

Going back to the earlier threads about posties delivering these leaflets….
We were briefed this morning that a postie in another district of Bradford was attacked yesterday for delivering the BNP propaganda.
Bradford Norths delivery office are having to go out at 6.00am to deliver them in the Manningham area before everybody wakes up as a safety precaution.

Saw Oasis there a few years ago. I parked at the football ground in their parking. It just felt a bit safer than all those off street operations in hi vis vests. It’s only a short walk to the cricket ground then.

Just got ours, they are being delivered by the postie

Yep Royal Mail are delivering seven in total in our area.
So far I have delivered UKIP, Lib Dem, Green and BNP, plus the polling cards.
We have to remain politically unbiased and must deliver them all, however I know a lot of the asian postmen in Bradford didn’t deliver the BNP last time around. One rule for one……eh?

It’s pretty good for us too. For some reason the European Elections must have different rules to the Locals and general, because we get paid 3p per leaflet for all of these. It’s a nice little earner.

In Golden Acre Park in Leeds a few weeks ago with the kids and a picnic. A large dog comes over at which point my 5 year old daughter panics – she really doesn’t like dogs. In the panic the dog takes my butties wrapped in clingfilm and runs off with them.. I am livid and start at the owner with a torrent off words (refrain from swearing though). My wife is telling me to calm down thinking i’m going to end up in a fight. At some point I mention his dog not been on a lead. His response suggests it’s our fault for having food about and his dog can’t help it.
All I can hope is that the clingfilm ruined his dogs guts.

Air DHX 5.0 rear and Coil Marzocchi Z1 FR lights front here.

How may HTs run a coil fork? 1000s and they have nothing taking up the rear at all.

I don’t see why anyone would ever question it.

Yep, all my bikes have never been test ridden beforehand.
Cannondale Chase – read the reviews – it sounded perfect. Two good years thrashing it about. Sold that to make way for a full sus. Bought an On-One Growler on a whim (and the price was great). Another great bike. I have had two good years on that too. In the meantime I wanted another HT and so bought an On-One summer season. Good reviews and price. Sold the Growler last month – as much as I enjoyed riding it, it was just a bit too heavy for everyday use. Bought a Rocky Mountain Slayer SXC frameset and I don’t forsee a change for a long time now. The Chase and Growler were not mistakes but they obviously weren’t right or I would still have them, however I don’t regret owning them one bit. I just think I have reached the perfect balance with my two remaining bikes.

Yeah, looking forward to tuesday evening. Just got to decide whether to FS or HT it. So far i’m inclined to take the hardtail.

The lean on the pic is me compensating for the horrendous gale that was blowing.

Nobody likes getting out of bed early but my theory is that you have to do it so get it done early and get home early. I get up at 5.40. Bed usually no later than 10pm.
I do a walking round rather than bike or van. Don’t be under the impression it’s an easy job – it’s not. Stress free – yes, but it’s bloody hard work some days.
Like Rich says, the biggest problem you may face is getting full time employment. As full timers leave they are been replaced with part time staff. Years ago you would have probably got a full time post within 12-18 months. You’d be lucky now if you ever got a full time post at all.
I gave up a carrer in architecture and project management to become a postman, 12 years ago now, and I don’t regret it one bit.

Oh, and you will always get snide jokes about nicking stuff – it’s best to shrug it off and let them have their moment.

I increased the travel on my DJ 3s from 100 to 130mm and it was fine. I can’t remember what leftys run at but the first Chase had a lefty on as an option.
I have seen them with 150mm forks on but not sure what ‘dale would think of that.
    Great frames.
