suffer the cold shoulder treatment when there colleagues come back after taking action

Quite the opposite in our office. Less than 25% are CWU members.

Rich, not sure what size office you work from but the CWU have done nothing for us (35 staff) over the years. Yes they agree pay deals but that's about it. At a local level we might as well not exist. All the recent changes – pegasus, later starts, lapsing duties have been pushed forward by the CWU. They even stood in front of us and blatantly lied to us telling us that all these changes were national. Turns out they're not, hence the strikes.

Sitting on the other side of the fence though, I was appalled to find out last night that no one from senior Royal Mail management has been present at the talks. It's OK for them to sit on their arses sending letters telling us how damaging strikes are, but they don't seem to want to get any more involved.

My day off saturday too, thanks goodness, and a weeks AL next week which couldn't come at a better time.

Just learn binary, you'll go all the way up to 31 on one hand

Sadly this is how I looked at school when binary reared it's head… :?

I needed four hands to count how many times I got asked "thought you were on strike" this morning. Personally I blame the news for not giving you the full story – Mail centres today (indoor staff)/Deliveries tomorrow (outdoor staff).
And to the binmen who's narrowmindedness compelled then to shout "scab" at me from the comfort of their cab, F*** off and get your facts right.
At least save it until tomorrow.

Last month I got an 'LG 32LF7700 LCD HD 1080p Digital Television, 32 Inch with Built-in freesat'. Can't fault it.
I got it from Jonh Lewis online – £450 including free home cinema system with DVD HD upscaler. Sadly it's out of stock now. Beauty of the John Lewis deal was that it came with a free 5 year guarantee.
Currys were also doing a similar deal but without the 5 year waranty.
I looked at a lot of the Samsung TVs too but nearly every review I read said they were all let down by poor sound.

I'll be working too. We have adopted many new working practices over the last couple of years. They all work providing there is a bit of give and take from both sides. My bike had nice shiney new bits thanks to the bonus we got for adopting the new practices. Delivery postmen seem to taking the flak for this as we are the face the public see, but it's those bone idle tw*ts you don't see in the mail centres that are causing most of this trouble.
As far as my customers are concerned I have their full backing for turning up for work on friday.
Out office has about 5% union membership. Small delivery units like ours have no clout and the union don't give a toss about us.

Alnmouth is a very nice place to stay. Fairly central for Alnwick, Holy Island, Bamburgh and so on. Seahouses is good for the kids in the penny arcades.

My surgeons quote when asked about going back to work (postie) was "Two days if you work in an office, three weeks if you work down a mine and six weeks if you are a mounted policeman" I then had to figure out for myself where I fit into that.
The only other advice I was offered was to keep the spuds supported but also ventilated. Sweaty nads due to driving or been seated for a long time can lead to infection.

The 'more efficient private company' they gave them to couldnt cope and simply sub-contracted back to RM.

Seen this type of thing before with FedEx. Somebody had clearly paid FedEx a 'courier' fee only for FedEx to forward the item through Royal Mails special delivery service, and no doubt FedEx made a few quid in the process.

Oldfart/Grumm – Nice to see a positive message for a change.
I'm sure in most jobs that are in the public eye there is always someone out there willing to slate you, but try to imagine how demoralising it feels when you go to work, do your absolute damndest to do a good days work and then read all the shit about yourself on here?

I think that the posties' determination to make our streets more colourful by dropping a red rubber band on to the pavement after every 10 deliveries is often undervalued.

You need to see the floor of our delivery office. Royal Mail in their infinite cost cutting wisdom have purchased some of the cheapest bands ever. For every 10 that I stretch over my bundles of mail I reckon about 40% of them snap. They have a usable life of less than a week.

Eight pages of total nonsense as soon as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumber turned up.
Has anybody tried to summarise what's going on here?

I think it's The Queens finest english that has me confused. It's almost as bad as 'text speak'.

Why not install a little push switch somewhere near the wiper to isolate it when the rack is on?

It would only cost a couple of quid in bits

Yeah, I'm sure it would but it's just hassle. TBH the rear racks don't get much use anymore. Same thing happens if I forget to defrost the rear screen in winter too, so it's not just a bike issue. It's the only issue I do have though. Otherwise it's a good family car.

"its not like it was any harder to fill in a redelivery card and sling it back in the van surely?"

It's just lazyness. No other word for it. The cards aren't that difficult to fill in
Following my day off I often find stuff left my 'collegues' the day before. It leaves me a dilemma then – should I leave a card and take it away using the correct proceedure or do I just pretend I never saw it?
I can't report it to my manager as he has made himself 'one of the boys'. He has the attitude of the other lazy **** I work with.

Rear wiper that moves when I select reverse (if the front wipers are on). Generally fine until the rear bike racks are on when the wiper hits the mountings. Even if I turn off the front wipers It still has to do this once. Only way around it is to switch off the engine before selecting reverse. Stupid!!! (C Max Focus by the way.)

Who put the bin out on the street? I can only presume it wasn't you otherwise you'd have seen the note too? If I don't do it myself it stays where it lives.
It bugs me to read this as a postie myself. I have got to the stage where I don't 'doorstep' anything unless I have permission from the occupier. If Royal Mail were more proactive (warnings and sacking) about this rather than just sticking up a few posters here and there this kind of thing would happen a lot less, but to be honest managers just don't give a shit anymore.

It’s not the DH line. Just somebody messing about near the camping area and not the ‘official’ trail at all.

who told me he had done his practice downhill run in 1min 15seconds!

After watching the taster vids prior to the event, I think that would’ve been possible as it implied the DH finished where the the jump line and singletrack line meet up again. As it was it finished just before the track crossing before the woody singletrack adding quite a bit more on.

Just finished a big chicken masala. I will be in bed very early tonight.

Couldn’t fault the weekend at all. Even the two downpours didn’t last too long.
Only comment I would add is it might have been good to have some water refreshment at the finish line today. There were some very hot peeps crossing the line.

Enjoyed the campfire tales and good company.

Yeah not much chance of overtaking on the downs and i’ll be most likely the one pushing up all the hills!! Well should be a good laugh anyway..

Ha ha, that’s my thinking too. I’m in this for the laugh, not the glory.

Last friday it was miserable in Oxenhope/Haworth and glorious in Hebden Bridge/Bacup.
Too many microclimates at work to ever really be sure what the weather will be like.

Will be there with Simon tomorrow. Just been beer shopping this morning, and the ice packs are in the freezer..
Like many, I am still undecided about the bike choice – It’s either the Summer Season or RM Slayer SXC. Both have advantages, but one thing for sure the rear will be running with a DH tube after 4 out of 6 of us punctured on the DH section last friday.

Yeah. Very sad. It would appear that Singletrack towers knew about this as the latest issue is dedicated to him. Just hope this thread isn’t treading on the families privacy. A quick search confirmed the worst.

Met Andy on more than one occasion on our Yorkshire trips to Scotland. Just one of those people who went out of his way to make sure we all had a cracking weekend. A selfless character who will be missed.
    Thoughts are with his family.

I use Enduro Pro 2.3s. I think you can still pick them up for about £12 each at Rutland cycling. Far better than the Minnions I had before. About 800g inc inner tube. I’ve never thought about it before but they come up on the big side but in comparrison to other 2’3s. I had looked at replacing them with some UST tyres (I already have the rims) to save some weight but most fat UST tyres weigh more than the tyre and tube anyway.

The Specialized tyres that came on Mrs Chase’s Hardrock were crap though. Swapped them for the Enduro 2.3s and it feels like a different bike.

As a kid I was always impressed by the people that went into the chippy and asked for “Twice and a large peas”, translated as F&Cs twice and a large peas. I have never yet dared go in and just ask for “Twice”, “Once” etc, as i’m not sure it’s still a common practice.

In Bingley a cake is two slices of potato and a slice of fish battered. Three miles down the road in Keighley the same thing is called a scone.

Just be wary of the woman who’s kids all have the same first name to make it easier when she wants them to do anything. You know you’re in trouble when she uses their surnames to address them individually

Send it ‘Care of’ another address. See if your mum can suggest an address to send it to. Without the local delivery office expecting its arrival it would probably get sent back to sender.

This is the steepest I have ridden. It’s a bit of a funny one because it’s almost over as soon as you go over the edge as it is only a bike length. I wouldn’t like to do anything much longer without a huge runout.

The one next to the rebound is for the main chamber – use this to set your sag level. The one on the piggyback is effectively the compression. Take note of min and max pressures – 125 – 200psi. The blue dial around that sets the bottom out resistance.
There is a vid half way down this page that may help too. It is specific to the RM Slayer but the info about the shock may help.
