That’s a right pain on a phone though. Why does this site not have a proper search function then? Even free to set up forums have one that works well.

Believe or not I did try that search!!

Richard at Enigma here. Thanks for the positive comments all. We are busy making our own frames, and taking on less repairs, but we try to help where possible. Some jobs are just not economical but if you would like to email some pics to sales@enigmabikes.com we will see if anything can be done. Cheers

Great reply. Maybe JJ should take heed of this sort of response. Cost nothing to be polite, offer help but not commit to anything. But he chose rudeness and a brush off.

i would have though current Jones frame owners would be the most likely people to buy another one or at least recommend them to others – this sort of company probably works on word of mouth advertising quite a lot so this is a major mistake for him to make.

I had my old Gt mtb frame done at LSN… they were cheap I suppose, but the powder was applied very thick and everything needed chasing out afterwards including the headtube..

that wasn’t my experience and I’ve had 5 bike frames done, 4 forks, 2 stems and a set of 4x 17” car wheels.

LSN are about £30-35 depending on what you need doing. You won’t get any cheaper unless you have friends in the business.

I’ve just looked through the warranty pages of a Jones bike manual. Blimey. The way you are allowed to ride each type of bike and still be covered by the warranty is so specific and detailed there’s so many holes they can wiggle through to avoid honouring the warranty.

Im not their sort of customer so it doesn’t matter to much to him but it put me off buying one for sure.

What a crap attitude. I wouldn’t expect it to be repaired for free necessarily but you would think he could at least be nice, apologise and if he genuinely didn’t have time to fix it explain why he wasn’t able to.

But for such extraordinary expensive frames I would expect him to find time to repair previous customers  frames. He’s got time to make new ones, repairing one can’t take as long as building a new one which he is quite happy to sell to the OP.

Don’t use Triple S for powder. They do an ok finish (I have used them) but they are very expensive and only have very limited colours.

I have had quite a few bike things done by LSN in Castleford – old school powder coating done to an amazing standard, they mask everything off well as they are used to bikes and are very very cheap too. The finish they acheive is amazing. Everyone in Yorkshire on Retrobike uses them, I travel from Huddersfield to drop things off with them.

Airevelo don’t state (well I can’t find it) which manufacturers bearings they use. At £3.50 each they won’t be that good for the standard ones. There’s no technical info about why their “enduro” bearings are better either.

Just cut out the middleman and go straight to a proper bearing stockists.

Just go to your local industrial bearing stockists, they will normally have SKF. I used one in Leeds and it cost me £10 for the 2 large SKF bearings I needed for a rear hub (not Hope but similar size). Looking at the prices of a Hope bearing kit online it seems they are expensive compared to a local bearing stockists. Place I went to in Leeds was very helpful too – there will be a place in every decent sized town.

We currently save £500 a month *just* to pay for the regular club fees for our girls – music (x2 piano, flute and drums), sports club, singing lessons, dancing, gymnastics, horse riding, art… And that’s before the clothes, books, tech, bikes etc etc etc.

I am am glad I’m not the only one who thought 😳😳😳😳😳😳 when I read that!

Kids are unbelievably spoilt nowadays. No wonder they are getting into debt when they leave home.

He really can’t find a new beer he likes? He isn’t trying hard enough.

+1. There’s loads of great beer in the USA.

It Peter Poddy’s useful bodge guide still relevant?

No idea to be honest. Might be but my forks look a lot newer than those.

I see the stupidly names sales are still running, trying to foist endless amounts of Chinese tat on us. I can never seem to unsubscribe from them either.

Green Day, Nimrod (for Time of Your Life)

And yet another person hears a bands single ballad they do and think all their songs are the same.  To me it’s the only crap song on the album. Take Back is brilliant.

Same goes for people who like No Doubt’s Don’t speak (nothing like the rest of the album, can’t srand that track), Extreme “More than Words” ditto, probably a lot more too.

If you need a new drill you’re better off with a corded one for heavy drilling and a cordless for light drilling and screwdriving. I’ve had decent DIY standard cordless drills and they’ve never touched the ability of even a cheap cordless to get through tough materials.

Using quality drill bits helps a LOT. A £50 corded drill with £40 worth of decent masonry bits will work better than a £90 drill with the free bits that come in the case.

I renovated a whole house and decided to spend £400 on a pro standard Dewalt drill and impact driver set (brushless ones) and they have been amazing – the drill can get through a lot more than I ever expected a cordless to be able to manage but even then sometimes it’s just easier to break out the corded SDS drill.

I tried to fix a few power tools. Sometimes it is just a clean that is needed and as long as you are careful they aren’t too hard to disassemble and put back together.

Anything which creates a lot of sawdust tends to suffer more eg sanders/routers but a drill could potentially do this too

On the other hand if it needs a new part then it’s probably not worth it. The switch on my nice Bosch cordless went and the only place I could find a spare was in Europe and it was £45 plus carriage. As I wasn’t mega sure whether that was the problem (it might have been the electronics the switch was attached to but until I had a working switch I didn’t know if it was or not) I just decided to buy a new drill in the end.

I thought SRAM was cheaper as it’s on loads of full bikes. Put me off a lot of bikes I might buy as I can’t stand the shifters.

Hmmmm. In my kitchen I have a Sony/Technics/Mission separates system total cost around £55 off eBay.

I’ve added a Bluetooth module hooked up to the Technics amp so if I really have an odd urge to listen to crap quality music then I can connect my phone to it. 😂

I really cannot stand Vettel but I think the grid penalty is a bit over the top and robs us of a good quali and race.

Has his new team mate literally kicked sand (gravel) in his face?

Oh crap yes – I just googled it and found out. How horrific. A great result by the police (yes they didn’t do well at the start) in the end and the praise they have given to the witnesses is very much deserved.

Probably the same thing happens in a lot of towns and cities to some degree. If you read the stories of how it started to happen to these poor girls and how they couldn’t seem to get out of it it makes me weep.

Apparently Huddersfield Uni is good – my son fancies going there – might have to re-evaluate that !

Yes it is is really good. Loads of new buildings have been built over the last few years, looks amazing. Facilities seem really good to me – I was there 20 years ago and liked it.

I had no problem selling a road bike in bits recently and got more money than I thought. 9sp with calliper brakes so “old” tech. Full bikes on eBay went for £250 ish but I sold everything bar the wheels (which i am keeping for my wife’s bike) for £350. Wheels could have sold for £100 ish (Ultegra on open pro).

People always want parts all year round but full bikes are sometimes a struggle to sell anyway even at the best time of the year.

Can anyone say riding BMX has improved/honed their MTB skills?

yes, I stopped MTB at Uni and rode street/park/flatland BMX for 6 years. You’ll probably never use SPD’s again once you’ve learnt how to hop properly on a bmx.

I never learnt how to manual properly but I can do no foot one handed jumps. 🤔

Get a proper skate lid as you will hit your head and you won’t want to keep replacing your nice MTB helmet every time.

Go to Pilates a lot beforehand, you’ll ache like nothing you’ve experienced anyway but it’ll help!!

I always find that leaving them alone really helps, just spray some GT85 in occasionally if they get very wet or muddy. Never had any wear out but they can get temperamental – beginners tend to be a bit tougher with them.

The DX thumbshifters on my 1994 Kona will never wear out, probably the same for the Dura Ace Bar end shifters I converted to thimbshifters for my touring bike.

I see you need an 853 Limited Edition Inbred, geared….

    Sorry, but I can’t resist…  (Brant’s seen this before…)

    LOL!

if it was PX as well you could also have a pic of the London Road Wizards Sleeve (TM) seat tube.

Sports should be based on sex not what gender you associate with. This shouldn’t really be a hard issue to deal with.
