And who in the name of all that is holy uses slotted head screws nowadays? Awful things.

People who know how to use them properly.

Find the Osmo oil finish you like best and use that. I’ll never use danish or Tung oil again after using a couple of their products. So easy to apply and looks great.
They do some tinted PolyAx oil which I’m sure you could get in a grey/black finish which your daughter would like.

When I fitted my job extractor I was told the “regs” that apply are the instructions for the hob. This specified how close the extractor could be to the hob. As far as I know you don’t want extraction too close to a gas hob especially as it could change the flame or something.
I fitted mine as low as I could as my wife isn’t very tall but it look like it’s a lot higher than what you are planning.

I had a set of the Mk1 and thought they were brilliant – followed the instructions and they worked really well.
I since fitted some later versions to a friends bike and didn’t think thet were very good – I thought they tried to be a bit smarter with them so they protected more but they were very hard to fit and never worked as well as my Mk1’s.

Perhaps that’s why they go on Facebook and tell users to Foxtrot Oscar.

Really? Where? Not on FB myself.

Why do people want to move to the SE anyway? Too many people cramming into an area to get paid more more to pay more for services, goods and houses. Everyone is miserable, everyone moans about it but when challenged they just say “well I can’t get this sort of job in the north” – diddums princess, suck up your latte and quit whining.

I used stainless on everything apart from stems as they tend to have very exact bolt lengths and sometimes odd shape heads too – as well as for the strength issue.

Never had a problem with stainless on brakes, but I make sure I go to my local bolt stockists where I know the quality is excellent – and they are the cheapest too

I am still stuck in the 90’s as I love my anodised alloy bolts – still got an original SRP purple rear mech bolt on one of my mechs…… and a purple anodised Bullet Brothers chain tensioner (extra retro points for anyone who remembers them!).

No reply yet. When I look back at my purchase and enter the same eBay item number it comes up as the same product but at a higher price.

They didn’t say to me the price was wrong, just that the quality wasnt up to standard.

I’ve asked them to send me the brakes being as they are still selling them.

I’ve bought screwfix ones before and the quality isn’t great.

Local bolt stockists. They sell every single type of bolt for engineering stuff, costs a few pence each, I get stainless generally on my whole bike.

The one I use is Danlett in Huddersfield but every town probably has a similar sort of place. I love the place.

I work in the civil service and am on standby (cat 1 responder) at the moment. I’ll get £128 ish for the week plus x1.5 time in the evenings and Sat and x2 normal wage after midnight or Sunday.

For the work I do I think that’s reasonable, it’s a pain when you don’t get any extra hours in as the £128 isn’t much when it’s been taxed etc but if we get something massive in I could be working 20/30 extra hours in a week and that’s quite nice (I wouldn’t have to do my day job if that happened though).

    Lewis to the Ferrari.

I can’t ever see that happening. I think Lewis needs to right team to flourish – was so much better at Merc than Mclaren as he didn’t have to do all the promo stuff. In Ferrari you’ll always be second to the team itself – they don’t reallt care about the drivers all they want to do is win but they don’t realise that having a strong team makes great drivers even better.

I cant imagine Merc would let Lewis go without a fight anyway, he probably sells more cars for Merc just by being who he is than any amount of promo work could ever do on its own. Just in the USA market their sales must have increased enough to pay his wages as he’s really popular over there as well as in the UK.

No it’s not. Maybe if it hadn’t had its ride and handling ruined

How do you know that? You don’t, you just thought you’d make yourself look clever by putting it down. You’ve not built it or driven it, just an Internet know it all

If the air ride has been installed correctly (which it probably has been looking at the standard to which it’s been built) and set up nicely it’s very probably better than the original suspension.

I’m no fan of office parties at Christmas but when we do it I get the person something nice and if I find something that costs a bit more but I know they’d love it I still get it.

Takes a few minutes to be nice, being grumpy and miserly takes a lifetime. Cheer up.

The local council place have a recycling area so I would assume its recycled by them

Yes they recycle them but not reuse them, they’ll get mashed up with all the other electricals when they get fed into the industrial frag plant. They’ll take the lead out of the batteries and recycle that and treat the acid inside then frag the plastic.

Reuse by selling or giving them away is a much better option and if you want to get technical it’s further up the waste hierarchy (prevent/minimise/reuse/recycle/energy recovery/dispose)

Just been in there, aren’t they the same things that were on there weeks ago?

Looking at the pictures is hard work on my iPhone, keeps jumping out of them back to the main list.

    Bit messy really.

If you binned the frame from a £5k bike (only thing which has an identifying number on it) how much could you sell the parts for?

With forks selling for closer to £1k and shocks not far behind you’d make a decent amount of cash selling those, then sell all the expensive parts such as dropper posts, pricey drivetrains, fancy wheels and Carbon bits and you’d have £2.5k in the bank pretty easily maybe?

Its not hard to see how the crime can pay very well. ☹️

Problem is, even if Kubica is as good as he was, it’s going to be like Alonso in the McLaren driving the wheels off it just to stay ahead of a rookie in a Sauber.

Agreed, that’s why I made point a) in my post recognition that Williams need to turn things around a bit as well.

I would love to see Williams win a race again before Frank passes away, he literally lives for F1 and if the team died I reckon he would too. There’s a great moment at the end of the Williams documentary (Amazon Prime or Netflix) where he is falling asleep in his wheelchair and he snaps awake and alert when an F1 engine bursts into life. It wouldn’t surprise me if he has bits of a Cosworth DFV engine keeping him alive.

Proper owner run teams are in fear of becoming history which would be a real shame. It’s those teams that often give some of the greatest drivers their chances in F1.

I’d love to be wrong, but I think that Kubica is really going to struggle….. didn’t Sirotkin beat him in testing this time last year?

He only just beat him by a tiny margin and Sirotkin was bringing loads of money to the team. I think I read that Kubica was now much better and was bringing some sponsorship from Poland now too. It’ll be good to watch as a lot of drivers really rated Kubica, who knows what he will be able to do once he gets into race situations.

Its such a good positive thing to happen and will really give some other disabled drivers hope for the future (Billy monger maybe but he hasn’t proved himself in F1 like Kubica did).

If I predict anything it’ll be wrong but here’s what I’d like to happen.

    Hamilton wins 6th WDC.

Vettel struggles with Ferrari and decides to move teams – I don’t like him but I just don’t think Ferrari is good for him.

Kubica gets top 10 finish in first race because a) Williams have turned things around and b) Kubica is a legendary driver who gets things out of cars no one else seems to be able to

Verstappen has an incident and he ends up lamping someone which gets him banned from a race. He comes back a better driver as he’s a) learnt to control his temper and b) admits he’s wrong sometimes and learns rather than dismisses criticism.

Honey Badger beats the Red Bulls on a regular basis.

LeClerc gives Vettel a run his money and wins a race or two.

Kimi, well, just turns up and is 100% Kimi. Would be nice to see Sauber get a race win with him.

Go to your local carpet store and just let them advise you. You’ll get what you want cheaper!

A lot of the plain carpets are fairly similar nowadays.

If you are in West Yorks I can recommend a carpet specialist.

Just trying to divert thinking about work tomorrow.

Dont turn up, I’m sure your colleagues won’t miss you. Everyone happy.

When you cut the panels down you don’t necessarily want the cuts to be straight. You’ll leave an uncut edge at the front and probably the bottom if your floor is level and cut the top and back edges. The top will be straight but you need to scribe the back edge against the wall so that might be wobbly or at at angle.

The guy who did my worktops used a track saw, jigsaw and router to work with.

I didn’t read you were only putting new doors in, sorry.

I hope you’ve done you’re measuring properly……. not all 500mm doors are 500mm doors, and you can’t cut them down.

We tried a memory foam mattress, to be honest they are mostly the same.

It’s now in our spare room and we have a sprung divan and mattress with pillow top to replace it.

Never having a memory foam one again!

You don’t need to fit the hinges on DIY kitchens units, they are pre built with the doors attached. You have to specify which way the doors open so be very careful about choosing to avoid clashes with other doors and ensuring decent access.

Youll need to fit the handles – just lots of very careful measuring and a sharp wood bit needed for that! Clamp scrap wood to the back to avoid blow through though.

Decent jigsaw would be good for scribing th units back to the rear wall, as well as a long level and building square to level things up.

Get a pro to fit the worktops though, they might be able to help final fit of the cabinets for you. Even if you have the jigs and tools worktops are so difficult to get right.

Dont forget to plan all the services in too!!

Hmmm I see some people are blaming some sort of health issue – has she always been like this? In my experience some parent can just be plain nasty, for some reason more often mums with daughters – can be a lot of guilt and passive agressive behaviour.

So there’s about £5k each in the house if you’re lucky?

Give her £5k to move out and move back in or demand £5k off her to call it quits.

iWould you guys be happy with reverting to a simple text editor if it meant it solved the autocorrect issue?

Don’t forget all the other issues too that affect far more people than the autocorrect.  Like the pages crashing repeatedly (“there’s a problem with this page so it is being reloaded” – never seem this on any other site ever) or the pages loading erractically so you can spend multiple times trying to select a thread (why oh why does the main forum page HAVE to reload every time I press back on my browser to come out of a thread back to the list? No other website I have ever been on does this) or the jumbled up order of posts on older threads (surely that’s web development 101 – “display posts in order of time” surely cant be that hard?) or the crap search function (actually it’s not crap as crap would indicate it has some tiny measure of usability) or the extra code cutting and pasting generates.

These are issues that forum members have been complaining about for months since the forum changed and nothing has been done. The site is noticeably quieter and the response from STW has been either nothing or obtuse or denial.

A lot of people post far less and I’ll guess a lot have left and some have cancelled P status. I’ve come back after a long time away and lurking for a while and the site is far worse than a few years ago.

A simple question – why are you (or STW) ignoring all the issues people have flagged up repeatedly?
