We used ‘Carmania’ in Cape Town a few years ago. Much cheaper than the big names.

But really you want a proper old skool Merc in Africa:

There’s your answer. Frequent application of icy cold water (i.e. in the sea) to the area plus an active lifestyle (surfing/running to beach carrying board/etc).

I jest not; I’m pretty sure windsurfing has helped me in this respect.

Seems worth having one with at least one brake. Ours didn’t which meant he would drag his feet to stop. By 4 he had moved on and was pedalling confidently but is still using his feet to stop at 5. Cue frequent shoe purchasing!

Similar to vorlich but we did a photo album for our fathers 80th. Family pics right from his own childhood up to the present along with in-line comments/thoughts/etc. If you get the old photos digitised (sp?), there are some good online printers to do a decent book – e.g. http://www.photobox.co.uk.

Takes quite a lot of time to put together but I think that’s the element most appreciated.

Good tip about the Roval valves, thanks. Some threads seem to suggest I ought to have got some with the bike in the first place so I may ask the shop as they’re not far away.

You’ve wasted your whole life with tubes. Go tubeless NOW!

Not got round to it yet …

Hmmm… I think the latter’s more likely to be the wasting of my life whatever ‘it’ is

Great mountain biking as well as all the windsurfing. But get up early for the bike as August will be hot!

(and the girls might like the view of tanned windsurfing instructors..)

Edit: sorry, just saw budget – perhaps hang on for last minute deals?

Great thanks. I may as well give it a shot once most of my current lot of inner tubes finally fail to be repairable. (and once I stop using the winter Schwalbe MudShark tyres I just put on which were the reason I noticed)

The MPV conversion thing always looks like a good idea, not sure of price though.

Something like this but buying on arrival and selling on leaving rather than renting? (for the Aus leg)

Edit: the link is meant to show a 4-man camper though the text suggests otherwise

A heavy bag charge may apply to bags over 23kg (51lb).

I’d stick to 23kg as the limit if I were you. Far more likely to comply with your destination airport policies as well.

Very happy with a 54 plate 530d Touring here. I had it mapped by Ecotune so theoretically it’s up to 265 or 285bhp (600 – 630Nm torque) depending on which map I upload, though I haven’t had that verified but you can definitely feel the increase.

It’s certainly made a huge difference to the way the power is delivered. No more big jolt of power somewhere random between 1.5k and 2.5k revs, it keeps pulling right up to the line and economy is better on the motorway runs. That said, it’s still a shocker around town for fuel and I miss my old T5 when it comes to the bike.

    Edit:

Just when I was wondering how in earth the average stwer affords all those wood burners/gaggias/bike/luxury man caves this thread appears.

£7.5k + a few hundred for the map. Not that bad and depreciation should have slowed down now. 85k on the clock when I got it this summer.

Might be worth finding out if the remote volume control will also control the headphone socket output.

If so, there’s a wealth of fairly decent PC speakers that would do the trick.

I’d suggest doing one of the consolidated ‘upgrade’ courses such as

Course 20417A: Upgrading Your Skills to MCSA Windows Server 2012

rather than a shed-load of courses starting with the very basics which you clearly don’t need.

Regardless of the trainers ability, these at least give you the opportunity to get some hands-on trying out lots of different technologies before hitting the exam. And (for me) it means I’m not having to do that whilst at work or in my own time.

edit: sorry, just re-read the question. No experience of Manchester-based courses. We used to run some in Leeds but now only do them in Southampton or Poole. Combine it with a few New Forest / Purbecks rides :-)

Seriously – there are some excellent threads on what to put in there, format, etc. No need for a program.

Reset the router to factory settings and re-enter them all? + make sure it’s on the latest firmware.

I have to do that occasionally with an oldish Linksys of mine.

Before rolling back it might be worth going to the manufacturers website for the main components to see if they have even newer drivers.

For instance, I always go straight to Intel with a new build to get the latest chipset drivers rather than just relying on what Windows updates gives me:

    http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu

Have a look in Device Manager (control panel, hardware, device manager) to find the manufacturers of each part – e.g. graphics, network card, etc.

Worth looking at the Youtube link halfway down this thread

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/the-holy-grail-of-bike-locks

I left a bike at Paddington for years with no issue but may just have been lucky. £50 hack bike, bit rusty looking and a ripped saddle to reduce desirability even further.

Another approach is to get a pair of overmitts to use when it starts bucketing down. Just pull them over whatever else you’re wearing and off again when it stops. They are just a very thin but fairly durable goretex shell outer mitt which roll up very small so can be carried somewhere close to hand without needing to rummage around in rucsacs. Roomy enough to still operate gears/brakes.

Look up ‘vertical mouse’. Your wrist ends up being at a better angle (for me anyway) and they tend to be a bit larger.

Edit: Also try using your whole arm to move the mouse around rather than just flicking it around from the wrist. I was getting the forearm cramp thing and this seems to have made the biggest difference, at least when I remember.

some sort of battery life saver app?

my wife’s wildfire battery lifetime is a shocker but as she won’t let me go near it, I suspect she has everything running on it all the time – bluetooth, gps, facebook sync, etc, etc.

Sounds like a detachable is important if you have reverse parking sensors? Constant false warnings could get very annoying!

Edit: I see Witter let you put in your registration to whittle down the list of compatible towbars. Still expensive though! £433 up to £546 :(

*stupid quesiton, do beemers havd DPF/EGR thingies?

Since 2004 I believe, at least on the 5 series.

However lots of places now able to remove DPFs and re-programme the ECU to take account of the removal. Plus by all accounts this gives a small performance/economy boost.

I went up to the Lake District for something very similar for my own stag do.

We used http://www.adventure21.co.uk/ who did a great job.

However you’ll have to accept the nights out will be more of the decent meal/pub/real ale variety than anything more raucous.

Transporter option doesn’t need to be the very expensive Caravelle.

A basic panel van which you can have side windows and a rock’n’roll bed added to afterward would do the job very nicely (and legally/safely). AKA a ‘kombi’.
I’ve used this basically as my daily drive to work vehicle for the last 5 years and love being able to chuck a muddy bike (or even windsurfing kit) in the back for a quick ride near where I’m working.

If it does get something but you then have problems you may also want to read this article:

    Good luck!

If you do go to Northern France and take the ferry to Cherbourg, then I’d recommend a night, or at least eating out, at the Hostellerie de Chateau in Bricquebec. The meal/service/wine/etc were one of the highlights of our honeymoon there. The website doesn’t really do it justice.

    http://www.lhostellerie-bricquebec.com/English/presentation2.htm

She wasn’t quite so taken with the 2nd WW stuff  but the beaches, and some kite-buggying, made up for that.

Falmer Palmers towards Poole has a good indoor play area though might be a bit limiting for the 9 year old.

Tank Museum and Sea World are definitely worth a trip whereas I think you’ll find the Monkeys in Monkey World are even more miserable than you in the rain.

Or take them out for a windsurfing lesson – they ‘ll get wet anyway and be nice and toasty in a wetsuit! You can check out the Olympic sailing venue at the same time.

This is a known bug with file validation, opening docs from a shared network resource. There’s a patch on technet somewhere…

    +1

    Try this link – http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2501584

You could also try removing the Windows Update patch that started it but you’d have to remember not to re-apply it everytime you run your updates.

With a bit of hindsight I think I would have gone for a balance bike that had at least one brake. Jumping to a bike with both pedals and brakes is quite a big transition and even a year later he’s still putting his feet down quite a lot to slow down.

It was a very cool bike though.

But does this mean you have to keep using it forever?

What a pain! the only time I dislike it is looking at my wedding photos where the sun was shining through the church windows at just the right angle. Did it’s job as the proverbial solar panel though… :-)

If you do go, try out the windsurfing. WA has some of the best spots on the planet and it’s a good excuse to head down to the Margaret River area and get a wine tour in while you’re there.
