@mark Out takes, retakes and what did I just say ā€¦ and I have a script in front of me. Envy the people who do it in one take.

Bike pack specific raft the Alpacka Raft Caribou. Shaped better to support a bike. The rafts worked really well as you see. Very stable

Yes nothing to see here. Unfortunately the downed trees is real. ā€˜Unmanagedā€™ trails will take years to reopen or never will, for example in the Moors of Feshie.

@patron Thank you for the links. They are interesting and a little surprising too. I knew there was a reason I never quite liked tomatoes.

@nwlarge Iā€™ll take a look. The mount I got through for the airtag impressed I am. Tight tolerances. Itā€™s the first 3D printed thing I am happy with.

@aphex_2k Iā€™ll explain :-). The Airtag does not connect to an iPhone, it continuously transmits a very low power signal ā€“ a Bluetooth signal. The whole ā€˜locate your lost/stolen thingā€™ relies on an iPhone/Mac/iPad wandering into the area AirTag and picking up the signal. Once a device has picked up a signal the device anonymously sends a communication on the Find My network. In turn you get notified of your Airtagā€™s location.

I forgot to mention in the video, the one thing that could make this Airtag/Find My App better in a tangible way would to have a geofence feature ā€“ even if that was at the cost of some battery life.

In iOS 15, Apple has added separation alerts to the Find My app, which let you know when you leave an AirTag or other Apple device behind. Separation alerts also support Find My-enabled third-party accessories. I will follow this in a feature review.

There is as it happens a good article in the latest edition of SingleTrack Magazine called ā€˜Lockdown Lessonsā€™ where a few of the SingleTrack World team and friends talk about how they handle lockdown riding. Some saw some benefits like fitness.

I classed local in my mind to be ride to the trail from my door and I used ride a distance at times like 10 miles avg before meeting up and riding a few years back. COVID lockdown did put a good few miles of tarmac on the knobbly tyres. So can do it again. Just the will power and fun factor balance.

Fitted a set to my wifeā€™s bike for the first time yesterday and rode the roads up to local trails. She is converted. Means we can still get out in the next few weeks riding from home.

I remember when I got these in 2010 I would ride trails and walkers clinging onto walls would say ā€donā€™t go up there itā€™s pretty dangerousā€ šŸ˜‚

@colournoise yep I know. The urge, but over thinking procrastination weather where loop! Which is all useless, for fĀ£$#%@!, just go film something first, anything thingā€¦. just do something. Hope it works out for you.

Yes the people shadows. Did not realise at the time and annoyed. Normally if I do notice, I take a blank film shoot of the view then film with shadow. Then in post mask out the area with the shadow and replace with a section which has no shadow. Works if you do not ride over the shadow! In this case trying to remove the shadow would have created more of a noticeable mess so left it be.
In the viking broch shot where I ride off the high rim down into the woods, it uses this mask over technique. There is my wife up there filming me. Two cameras used at the same time

Honestly, good to hear that this style of video and riding is hits a positive note with quite a few people.
MTB videos with mostly chest mounted POV is not for me. Like to show the context of where why someone is riding in a location.
Music. That is one of the hardest things I find to do when making a video like this. First finding non copyrighted music which is ā€˜suitableā€™ for the story. I do now pay for music now but still trawling music takes a long time. Music is like marmite, canā€™t suit everyone all the time. In fact the music in this video is not normally the kind of music I listen too. More of a armin van burden man myself. Tend to go for upbeat rock otherwise watching me ride is like watching paint dry lol. Happy to film other people with the skillz though. Use of good editing and music choice does spruce it up. Still tough though.

Be interested to see your next video. Is you old one online?

Have this one, all stainless steel ā€˜Solo Stove Ranger Fire Pitā€™ as it is quite portable for out in the van.
The one you see in the film ā€˜Ride Local Trailsā€™ is a Hƶfats Cube. It flips over to smother it.

@boardmanfs Thanks for watching. The editing software I use Final Cut Pro 10 (FCPX). Highly recommended (I have not used any other editing software). Still learning new techniques/ features even after a few years! Happy help if you have any questions.

@zigzag69 I rode some new trails by the Antonine wall and the wheel for first time this year, after 10 years!
Local lockdown riding exploring has revealing new woods and tracks that have been right under my nose. The extra time available.
Since March I have only filled up the car 4x.

    @morecashthandash
Thanks and happy for the inspiration.

Thanks for the great feedback. Took a while to put this together. Good to see there are like minded people too. I can ride well not rad air knaw. Most of the time it is a one man band filming crew. My wife is brilliant giving me a hand too occasionally.
Lot of raw footage on the floor. A sequel is on the cards. Big thanks for clicking the like as this helps my YouTube channel a lot.
    Keep well and safe.

Oh :-( Scotland to follow? Self isolation and getting out on my bike was/is something I could expect to do and keep sanity going forward while being sensible about it.

My experience of solar panels and being able to work as expecting and if so work in a timely manor especially in a climate like Scotland is for me not a viable option. The panels would
have to be quite a size before being able to get the turn around time I want.

The disappointment of the USB-c for not charging my Mac has been alleviated mostly by being able to trickle charge via the 12v 10A to USB adapter. But atm is only a 500ma device. Still ok to charge the Mac when not is use though will take a while. Like over night.

Note I do not have a habit of discharging my to zero. I wanted my use case in the van to be to use the Mac then charge when not in use.
Mind I have gone from 100% to 5% in 2 hours when rendering at full pelt. This worst case scenario was what I was catering for but I do not expect this to happen very often. So I do have plenty of head room.

@twrch At 1m50sec there is a graphic showing the capacity of the unit. The unit can sustain ~500w from one AC port.

    ChannelD

I chose a lithium battery for the following reasons:
ā€“ for the same mAh capacity you can discharge a lithium battery to 0ā€™ish without damage many times. For lead acid it is recommended not to exceed 50% repeatedly. Therefore lithium has 2x effective capacity.
    ā€“ portableā€™ish
ā€“ lighter in comparison to a lead battery but is extra weight :-/
ā€“ multi-use given but is expensive
ā€“ my Mac could discharge my already scarce 2x 90Ah (really 45Ah) lead acid batteries when they need to keep van kit running off grid in approx 4 recharges.
ā€“ my lead acid leisure batteries and the van are second hand 2 years old so not in optimal condition.
    ā€“ reduce my battery anxiety!

@argee It has been a while known for some for a while. For me only just recently I have found Dunkeld a revelation to always thinking the need to go further north. Trailforks app was the key. Likely you will find it a great place to ride. It is a big area.

@lovewookie thank you. The next edit is Dunkeld Birnam hill. Dunkeld used to pass it by to go further north but recently begun to appreciate how good it is. The red at it took a few hours to film. 20 minutes to do if not filming.

@13thfloormonk Ridden it quite a few times over the years and it slightly different every the time. They fix it and in parts water erosion changes its character which is part of the fun for a quick loop. So can vary a lot in places. I sure your friends will be ok with this one. It would one I would take people too for there first time.

Always like your old shop with its not always run of the mill stuff, fatbike and bike packing bits and bobs. The Salsa Bucksaw is still going well, love it. Good to see you continuing with the site and in Ripon.

Whitestone: We did look at the black tracks up to Meanoch Bothy as a possible place to pitch depending how we got on and not finding a suitable pitch. Not been up there. Nice to know it is rideable perhaps given our packed bikes are not light! Can be done but at much slower pace. Thanks

When planning the route I looked at the contours and thought yeah ok, the start gave no hint. When we popped out of the woods after first few kilometres then the scenery wow. I had it on my list for years. I thought it as nothing special.
