Yeah totally, I think it’s a bog standard formula hub that’s on it

@otsdr ah fantastic thanks for the links! You were right, it was a 2016 model Float 32 Performance Elite with the FIT4 damper, no idea if it had/has the open mode adjust as well tho…

Were you not a fan of the bar mounted lever?

    Thanks for the replies all!

Don’t worry @crimsondynamo, it’s the 650b+ version (2.8″ rubber) and now has a Fox Float 32 on the front for a bit of bounce!

Maybe a switch to some gears might be the way to go but I have found that when out riding at Glentress with mates on geared hardtails, when it gets so steep that I need to push, I’m not usually that much slower than them spinning a tiny gear!

@scotroutes wow, and here was me thinking velox tape was still ‘good’! Got some wtb tape now so I’ll try and give it a go this evening hopefully.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

I know going tubeless is probably the way to go eventually I just don’t have the time right now, we’re expecting our second child in July and I’m likely to only be out a couple of times before then, a trip to Arran to ride the Grinder route in a couple of weeks being the reason for trying to fit the Nano’s.

I’ll look into the IRC levers, thanks @charliem.

    @scotroutes
it’s a strip of Velox tape.

A mate has just bought some Gravelking  SK’s to run tubed on some Alexrims so I’ll see how he gets on with them (not a direct comparison I know but I’ve got the same rims on the commuter so might be able to draw some vague conclusions)

    Kona Unit?

I picked one up earlier in the year and while I’ve not had time to ride it much it seems like a lot of fun so far

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

I tried moving the cleats to the most rearward position and it felt definitely different and have now moved them slightly forwards and it feels much better than it did.

The cleats are now in a very different position from the old shoes but then the shoes themselves are very different too!

I might look out my old road shoes soon to see how they feel in comparison too, they always felt absolutely fine position wise.

    Thanks again!

@Vortexracing ah nice one – thanks!

Do they seem pretty decent out of the box in terms of quality? I’ll be interested to see what you make of the free hub click, I have memories of a mates Pro3 on his racer being pretty loud…

@Daffy it’s not dissimilar to weights I’ve seen quoted for the Grail/Pro4 combo elsewhere and I’d rather go for something solid than super lightweight.

There’s a good chance I’ll be doing some light touring/bikepacking/’gravel’ riding on them so solid and reliable is more where I’m looking at.

I just hadn’t noticed quite such huge changes on other brands etc and wondered if there was something specific to do with Salsa.

@b r – probably, but I don’t trust myself not to forget it sometime!

@greyspoke – ah cool, I’ll have a poke about and see if I can find some – thanks!

@STATO ahh ok, I hadn’t seen the widths of the Vapour when I was researching, I just kinda figured they’d be ok for road widths too, thanks!

@steve_b77 I’ve got some 40c Nano’s to go on for ‘off road’ times but for road duty it’ll probably be some 28c or 30c Gatorksins.

I’ve never tried tubeless yet so am a wee bit wary of it…

Coming form more of a road-ey background I’m a bit surprised that I’m a more excited to see how these ultra endurance events (HT550, Tour Divide, TCR, Trans Am) go than I am some of the grand tours this year!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I think if they start trying to mess again I’ll just stop up and ask them what their problem really is, if they kick off then they’re gonna be fully in the wrong.

Taking the go pro every day will be a bit of a pain and I wish we didn’t live in an age where it’s even a consideration but maybe I will start at some point.

I’d rather not have to change route as a lot of the roads I’d otherwise be on are pretty nasty.

@nobeerinthefridge the first time was on the stretch of NCN75 just past the Hilton at the SECC, yesterday was again on the cycle route almost under the Kingston Bridge at the Renfrew Ferry.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, seems like it’s still a pretty even split between the Grail’s and the Pacenti’s! Time to decide which ones I prefer the look of now :)

I was there as part of a quad but ended up having to bail out on the morning of as I felt absolutely terrible, grrr.

The rest of the team did a good job though, first MTB event for any of them and for 2 of them the first time doing any kinda of bike event!
