Just remembered what Cam McCaul said once and it defines riding to me:

“As kids we learn, after touching a hotplate, not to do it again because it hurts. What is it about riding a bicycle that, no matter how much pain and damage is inflicted, we get up and start all over again?”

I don’t know if I’ll ever find an answer.

I was thinking about this also.

I thoroughly enjoy watching Gee Atherton & Sam Hill ride bikes. I do not enjoy their interviews.

I thoroughly enjoy watching Ronnie O’Sullivan play. I do not enjoy his interviews.

To conclude, when Murray plays tennis I shall watch and enjoy. I won’t watch the interviews.

    No help whatsoever teamhurtmore !:-)

I keep my SS drivechain clean with degreaser and a good wash n’ lube.

Otherwise, mud goes on, mud falls off, mud goes on, mud falls off.

All components are sealed-against-Scotland and I don’t feel any less of a scruff for riding a dirty white bike.

But the crust is the best… especially if a clever person amalgamated some spinach in there!

Otherwise, bash up Wotsits-other cheese puffs are available- and stick ’em in a granary roll with full-fat cream cheese.

    Aaaah, student dayz.

    Best value in mountain biking?

Two wheels and some triangles, a gear and some kinetics.

Struggle to the top of a hill and let go.

Freedom. The value’s in the word.

“You need to believe in things that aren’t true. How else can they become?”

    Terry Pratchett- Hogfather.

Not a Discworld reader but I came upon that line once and it’s stuck with me ever since.

That and the fabled “one love, one life, let’s get together and feel alright”. Timeless and true.

Proper cheese, savoury biscuits, home-made brew?

It’s all gone River Cottage since some people drank themselves to sleep.

Wonder how stumpyjon and his Cloudy Bay’s getting on.

If one is slightly tipsy, do not go for a pootle round the garden…

    Wuaey.

Every time I say “that’s it” a pack of Virginia Smooth ends up in the basket with the scratchcard. Just for one at the weekend.

I reckon the law banning it from P.O.S will do me favours…or make it even more of a guilty pleasure.

I like a life of moderation now after “the student” narcissistic years of 20 Marlboro Red and many vodkas-a-day.

Am only bloody 25. Going on 40. Innit.

I’m just back from the dirty, dirty woods.

Pishing down, loamy filth in every hole-in the ground and I- and a cheesy grin to boot. No-one about, just me & full blast Maiden in the ears.

    It’s Scotland, it’s Summer, once you’re wet… you’re wet.

Sierra Nevada bullies my head in the morning, so does Blue Moon for that matter, something funny must happen in the cargo plane.

Having a notion for some Modelo, but I’ve forgotten what the sun looks like so it wouldn’t be right.

Need a nice comforting “pssing down” ale.

Like Innis & Gunn Rum cask.

    Interesting point, about rewards.

After 46 days, I’d convinced myself I deserved a nice posh Old Fashioned, y’know, just the one.

Don’t do that. Buy a frame instead.

I think Monday morning, with a belly full of soda, will be quite a landmark PJM1974.

You’ve done yourself proud, proven the mind over matter and know that despite the difficulty of a no-beer-BBQ you’re going to cope well.

Get stuck into grilling & hosting, presenting guests with the new drink-free character you’ve worked this hard for.

Almost a month… think of the shiny shiny.
