The advice above is pretty spot on.

Without seeing your mouth its impossible to be any more specific. There are always a few options and there is rarely a right and a wrong answer in dentistry. The implants may represent a better value for money option in the long term rather than a new bridge which may have a more limited lifespan and still cost a significant amount. Bottom line is that a lot depends on whats going on under the existing bridge and what sort of shape the remaining central incisor that is currently the support for the bridge is in. If that tooth is ok for a crown but not good enough to support the bridge you would get away with one implant to replace the bridged lateral, if the central is knackered too you would most likely need two implants. The bone level is not going to be a problem in the central position as you havent lost that tooth yet, in the lateral position if there isnt enough bone you can have artificial bone chips or a bone graft to increase it. This would add £600 ish and might add an extra surgical procedure and 6 months to the treatment time but it’s not a horrendous process.

I would say that all my patients with implants are all happy they went for them. I dont do the surgery but i do the putting the teeth on top afterwards bit

Cost wise £2000 is right depending on where you live and who is doing them for you. I would advise against going abroad to get them done cheaper – if you get trouble later it leaves you in a hole as far as sorting it out goes!

sounds like i should investigate the spring as i cant sag it any more as it is with my weight, the preload is already totally off……unless i eat excesively over xmas of course…;-)

    ceepers

    Thanks

I’m pretty sure the rattle isn’t there with the preload dialled up a bit so I guess it might be the spring

So next question, ill get my wife to check my sag as it were. A softer spring is going to give a plusher ride and I should see that o ring move further up over a ride?

How much is a spring going to set me back? Am I better off saving for a better air sprung fork or will I still find the basic spring in something else too stiff?

    Thanks everyone!

i just pre ordered a small too. i’m 5’6 and short legged. Cy was super helpful by email and very clear that was the right size for me. very excited although my build is just going to be porting everything off my genesis and replacing as it wears out.

My only dilemma is whether i should risk the wrath of “her indoors” and spend the cash for a reverb dropper since i have to buy a seatpost anyway. I know i shouldn’t but it’s very tempting….

It’s 2012 shimano m430 which I think is alivio and so I guess will be dual pull!

I’ll have a peer at the bike later!

I’ve identified another issue. My existing front mech is down pull but the soul routing is top pull. Is there a way of easily adapting my mech or is it easier to buy a new one?

Any idea what the core frame would be worth?

    Edit

I have a tapered steerer fork already I assumed that would only fit the newer frame?

Yeah I checked there’s a mint one on there now

I need a small though and seems like there aren’t as many of those around!

I just bought some of the nukeproof ones. really comfy on 3 hour exmoor rides, nice and warm in this weather and better fit and slightly more reassuring level of protection than the 661 pads i tried. Coming from wearing pads skating in my mispent youth, some of the mtb ones seemed a bit flimsy in comparison. I wear knee pads 90% of the time and really like these

fair enough but i bet you would give a workmate a couple if you had them on you and they had a headache. I was just trying to point out that the risk with the epi pen is minimal (in that situation), on a par with commonly used medication and the reward, ie saving a life, massive.

What i’m trying to say is that as ajsmonkey points out, in those few minutes it really is life or death and in that situation things really get reduced to basic survival first, legal considerations should come a way higher up.

Kind of like maslow’s heirachy of need

qwerty hit the nail on the head i think.

I’m sure there would be potential legal and moral questions about a “trained first aider” watching someone die in front of them from anaphylaxis. I’m pretty sure that the legal system would (eventually) agree that it was reasonable for such a person to administer an epi pen to save a life if the person having the reaction was not capable of doing it themselves. In most cases the key thing is whether you acted reasonabley in the situation, i would argue that in this case you would be.

As an illustrative aside, the following are the side effects from ibuprofen which no-one worries about doliong out to other peoples kids……

    •nausea (feeling sick)
    •vomiting (being sick)
    •diarrhoea (passing loose, watery stools)
    •indigestion (dyspepsia)
    •abdominal (tummy) pain
    •headache
    •dizziness
    •fluid retention (bloating)
    •raised blood pressure
    •gastritis (inflammation of the stomach)
•duodenal or gastric ulcers (open sores in the digestive system, see Peptic ulcer)
•allergic reactions, such as a rash
•worsening of asthma symptoms by causing bronchospasm (narrowing of airways)

Less common side effects can also include malaena (black stools) and haematemesis (blood in your vomit). These side effects can indicate that there is bleeding in your stomach

    wHAT’S your worry?

If the person is having an anaphylaxis and needs the epi pen, i’m sure they would be happy to have you use it on them since they might die if you don’t! The epi pen only contains adrenaline which occurs naturally in the body so if you were to administer it unnecessarily there is no risk of harm. I’m not sure i see where the legal risk is. It’s akin to using one of those defibrillators that are in train stations

i’m a noob too! I got a genesis core 26.4 which cae with a 70 stem and 680 bars, i bought a 55 stem and 720 bars after a bit of internet bargain hunting. really transformed how the bike felt, made it feel much more like it was “with me” on the descents, easier to lift the front wheel, hop and shove into corners, way more room to move fore and aft as needed. Hasn’t seemed to make much difference climbing unless it’s super steep when it is a bit more tricky to keep the front down!

I do have a suspicion i should have bpought a size smaller originally and the shorter stem makes it fit better.

Interesting question though as i do have a hankering to buy a soul at some point in the future and port some of the genesis kit over until it breaks

it’s so ridiculously muddy everywhere i went for the sandy drained through the dunes option. Even the bits through the trees there had puddles and they normally stay passably dry.

ps no photoshop or instagram buttons were pressed for this one!

Well they don’t make things like they used to / it was better in the old days / we used to have an empire……….. ;-)

Dunno, personally I like things to be authentic therefore I like film as opposed to manipulating new to look old. Granted I use Instagram but like I said I’d only consider it to b a bit of fun with my phone when I’m bored not some kind of serious statement

    ceepers

Instagram is just throw away fun for me. The film shots aren’t photoshopped at all that’s how they come out of the crap plastic cameras the tints/saturated colours are from processing slide film in the wrong chemicals. It’s a niche bit of analog photography (toy cameras / lomography) that’s become a mainstream “retro” look because of Instagram and hipstamatic apps mimicking it.

I love the unpredictability of using old film and old cameras but guess its not everyone’s cup of tea

i’m feeling slightly guilty about posting non wheeled content so here are a couple more bike shots, electra cruiser in devon lane and schwinn cruiser beachside in california. Both cross processed film from a holga camera

my hardtail (genesis core) came with 70mm and 680 but i’m currently running 50 and 720 which i like a lot better. i’m 5’6 but was reccomended a 17.5 frame and the more i’ve read the more i think i should have got a 16 (which the lbs didnt have for me to try) my theory is the short stem despite looking slightly wrong makes the cockpit length more similar to the smaller size. it’s certainly made the bike feel a lot more “chuckable”

climbing wise on road it’s made no difference, it is hard to keep the front wheel down on steep off road ascents but i think thats partly my newbie lack of technique/in-experience and i’m not sure i found it any easier with the old stem/ combo

In reply to the camera question, my pics were all iphone (cos it’s convenient and in my pocket anyway) apart from the one of the guy leaning on his bike which is 120 slide film cross processed shot in one of these:

    http://microsites.lomography.com/diana/cameras/dianaf

    unpredictable, sometimes disasterous, sometimes brilliant!

i have a pentax optio which is a pretty sturdy and small waterproof compact which takes decent point and shoot shots:

you can get some pretty cool stills with the older non hd go-pro camera’s which i’d imagine are available pretty cheaply now:

apologies for hijacking with water pics but it illustrates the point!

Incidentally, i got given a waterproof iphone case to review for surfing with a couple of months ago, too big to keep in a pocket probably but good enough to cope with taking pictures/ checking strava in a downpour!

Not strictly what you were thinking of but lovely bikes to cruise to the beach on and guarunteed to put a smile on your face. All three are Electra bikes, the red one is a deluxe cruiser, a swing 3 (in black and white) and a petro zilia girls one. 3 internal hub gears andweigh as much as a small car!

Relevant because if i’m correct, the first MTB’s used cruiser wheels cos they were stronger than racing bike wheels and thats why we all ended up on 26’ers originally?!

so many thanks for the help everyone!

small amount of pimping after some bargain bin internet hunting!

It’s a 17.5 frame and i’m only 5’6 so i was in two minds about getting the 16 inch originally so i went with a 50mm ragley stumpy stem and some alloy answer 720 protaper bars.

changed the tyres for nobby nics too

only ridden it around the block so far but seems to climb just as comfortably as before but feels more responsive and “chuckable” to my inexperienced skills. Definately easier to hop off curbs etc.

Yet to try it down anything off road so i’ll report back

    Wow thanks for the advice!!

Sounds like I’m halfway there, I have dmr v8s and those am41shoes. Clothes wise I’m sorted too.

Sounds like it might be worth wider bars!? Would I still need to get a shorter stem at 720?

I’d thought of a dropper post guess the extra weight is worth it?

Tyres seem like a first step. Maxxis advantage 2.25 or continental mountain king mk2 have been suggested, any views on what’s best?

I got it for £775 as ex on a stand in a shop but never ridden so it seems like even more of a bargain now!

I’m on flats with shimano flat shoes. It came with spds but I’m never about not being able to bail from the bike until my skill levels improve (my 38 yr old body doesn’t bounce as well as it used to!

The bars are just the stock ones I haven’t measured them

The (obvious ) local trails are single or double track probably mostly no more technical than the red run at haldon forest. Tyres wise I know it’s a whole can of worms but what’s better than what I have. Mud specific in our climate I guess?!
