Ahh, that works! Just upload all your pics to the classified section with ridiculous prices so nobody tries to buy anything, then embed from there!

    Not a serious suggestion btw.

For balance, Have both spyres and juin-techs on hope and shimano rotors and with good compressionless outer, neat setup and after-market pads and they are both brutally powerful.
Was really unimpressed when I first got them, but the upgrades made them excellent.

No doubt that full hydro systems will be better, though.

I own two of those things and would, too, highly recommend!

Also, in before someone telling you that you are wrong. This is STW after all!

+1 for Dave Glover. Nice bloke with lots of contacts that may be of use. He helped start a W4A group in Edinburgh a while back, so is pretty local.

Well if you ever find yourself in the North West of England, around Calderdale or North Manchester give us a shout! We don’t have many trees on the moors either!

Yes, me. But I am bloody miles away.
    However, there must be others!

Have a look around for wheels for all / bikes for all groups run in association with Cycling UK or Cycling Projects UK or FABB Scotland and ask about.
Some of their coaches will be Cycle Leader trained and may be interested.
They should all be listed on the Cycling UK website. https://cycling.org.uk/wheels-for-all

These sessions are an ideal and safe way for anyone to begin cycling, generally with excellent tuition from cyclists who often have strong links with the care sector, as they are geared toward full access, regardless of age or ability.
Not all will have a full on mtb trail leader on hand, but some will, as it is a wonderful place to work and tends to attract two wheel fanatics (I’m guilty, but then, who wants a real job)?
It is also a good way to get decent training without having to pay one to one mtb instructor prices.

Just to say, we had a young lad in a similar situation come to us through a day service. He couldn’t ride at all. We had him confident on two wheels in three sessions. That was six months ago, now he has started as a volunteer with us and has mastered skids, bunnyhops and last week, his first proper endo!

    Good luck!

To be clear, OP is looking at these ones. Air sprung, remote lockout and some real damping options.

Not to be confused with the ‘spring in a tube, steel stanchions, plastic bushes and no adjustment’ cheapo models.

Also, the fluid fs 3 has a pair of Recon slivers. Not sure that that is an actual upgrade, other than badge.

Had a pair on a bike we used for a charity bike ride. You know, they weren’t half bad!
Can’t comment on longevity, but they felt smooth, lockout worked fine and didn’t flex noticeably.
Get the one with the frame that you want. Forks are easy to pick up if you feel the need to upgrade down the line.

It does make a great rear tyre. Just the right amount of slide without being sideways everywhere. Can spit its dummy occasionally on steep loose climbs, though.
Not sure that it would have the same characteristics in a bigger size

I would assume that if the printed mag dies off then the move will be towards an online publication with a homepage, magazine downloads and a user forum.

Put some SKS blumel 53mm on my London road commuter about a month ago. Fit well, really sturdy once set up properly and fit over my 42mm tyres perfectly as well.
Originally intended to take them off for weekend thrashing, but have ended up just leaving them on as they only rattle slightly on rocky descents.

Shorts, tshirt and a fleece this morning, was a bit dithering at the start, though!

Your brain is also sending the ‘er this isn’t right’ signals

Yeah, my brain must have a different assessment of ‘weird’. The winter days or torrential rain are the times that I can ride harder, faster and further. Can’t ride for shit and lose all stamina at anything over 22C, though.

I have a ton of stuff I should have listed on the classifieds before they “improved” it

I think this true of many people. While the new classifieds are better in terms of pic hosting, required info ect, it makes putting up a few little bits and bobs somewhat long winded in comparison to the old setup.
I mean, I like the idea of the new classifieds and it is an improvement for a given value of improvement, however the ‘no browser extension’ thing is a bit of a kicker considering the sheer amount of information pillaging, errant scripts and trackers that are going on behind the scenes, as well as the advertisements that are definitely not an ads in the side bar.

    Curates egg, innit?

Might have been a repeat ad, or it somehow broke the rules, perhaps? Maybe message Stompy to ask? ;)

Well, I hope that you gained both knowledge and received advice in this thread!
You now know that he may be busy and/or out of the country and due to the time of year immediate replies may not be peoples priority.
I have bought from Tom before without any issue. Just give it reasonable time, but if, for any reason, you don’t get a reply, don’t sweat it and just move on.

Just out of interest, how did this perceived scam work? Was he going to persistently ignore you until you paid him to reply?

Pinkbike is quite unlike here in terms of user attentivness. Sometimes people simply do not reply to some messages, respond in an unhelpful manner or act inconsiderately, but that is entirely their choice.

Even so, thanks for the thinly veiled insults over my suggestion that I felt your solution to the lack of communication was a little dickish, though.
I’m beginning to wonder if it is you as well.

If it helps to calm your boots, Stompy is often on the road between here and Croatia, so he might just be busy.

    That one?

Also, bit of a busy time of the year to be expecting rapid responses from anybody.
Also, flagging someone as a scammer because of poor communication or bad manners is a bit of a dick move.

Definitely delivery bags. Found a couple on the canal the other day that had had the contents of the packages nicked.

Consider it from the pov of a mole. Maybe they tend towards being nocturnal as this is their optimal foraging time (as earthworms rise to the surface to feed) and sleep when they recede again. Or they are least active during times of increased disturbance probability. I would guess that they were all pretty similar, behaviourally.

Sorry, should have said ‘purely* enzyme based’ .

I’m not aware of any Talpa europaea specific studies, but there have been a good few studies into other fossorial species examining the expression sites, protein substitutions and expressions against similar, non burrowing species and I recall that the general idea was that there is a greater reliance, and sole utilisation of a modified oscillatory pattern of MOP3 without the need for direct photon or thermal receptor cues to act as the reset switch.

’tis an interesting question, tbh. They will, but I would guess there would be some operational differences from other mammal, but not to the extent of some other truly underground species that may have atrophied the original receptor organs (eyes)

    how does it work

Well, we thought that Circadian rhythm was regulated by environmental cues (light signal via retina), but loads of studies into blind or subterranean mammals revealed the complexity of the circadian gene layout, where the system has become enzyme expression based. This is interesting because it largely does away with the multiphasic aspect of regulation as unnecessary due to their lack of environmental and seasonal variation.

    what stones do I need?

Couldn’t really say as they get to be a bit of a personal choice

    But have a read Here

Ignore the Diamond stones as they cut really fast making it quite easy to bugger an edge with a bad stroke, then work to budget and practice with your older knives first!

It sounds like a nice knife so should only need touching up every now and then unless you use it all  the time, so a ceramic rod to keep it tidy would be useful too.

Sabatier professional for speed, Fallkniven DC4 for portability and finishing, or a fixed angle system such as a Lansky, or similar for a consistent and pretty much perfect edge.,

Just have a look at what is popular on a few knife store or forum, there are loads of good options

But you know you really want a set of stones …

Really wanted some of these but they simply don’t fit anything bigger then a ten, so no chance on my twelves.

However, there is hope! Just spotted that they are making an xl-xxl size listed in the 2018 US product catalogue, so hopefully they will turn up in the uk sometime

I think that Endura made a bit of a balls up with the mk2 jacket, tbh. I would say that they compromised the protection aspect in favour of a higher breathability rating, so that they could market it as great at both., when in reality it leaked as soon as the dwr wore off the unsealed sections.

The mk3 version looks to have gone back to the ‘full shell’ style of the mk1, but with the massive ventilation options of the mk2, which I would say is the better choice: a good quality well sealed membrane which favours weather protection over supposed ‘breathability’, which is what the all the vents are for.

    cdoc

Was this version described as a ‘waterproof’ jacket

Yes. As Endura’s top of the line, 200 quid waterproof hardshell.

Wonder if it was user error or unrealistic expectation then?

Have since moved to a Columbia outdry trail running jacket that breathes rather well and really is waterproof. Also half the cost, but more suited to my requirements.

Not just you Andy, my MT5OO (2017-18) is good, but unless reproofed regularly it leaks like a sieve through the lower arms and the back where there is a different fabric. If I hold it up to the light it seems that the membraned fabric only covers exposed areas and a lighter, non membrane fabric is used in other places to increase breathability.

I am not the only one to have this issue, hence the 2019 version being changed back to full membrane like the mk1, which was great.

Must say, I was a bit disappointed as the mk1 lasted me for years, whereas I rarely use the mk2 now.
