Does get a bit tiring ushering them gently outside again, but meh. that’s nature. Easier to catch than wasps.

Also, they are definitely the most venomous creature known to man. Ricky Gervais said so.

They don’t hibernate. The breeding season is nearly over, eggs have been deposited in the soil ready to develop and hatch into larvae early next year.

Not sure that anything serves a ‘purpose’ as such, just eat, reproduce and die, which is exactly what they are up to. The bulk of the breeding season is triggered early September, then they all just bumble about for a week or so waiting to die.

Most of their lives are spent as Leatherjackets in the larval stage, munching whatever organic debris they can find, so I imagine that waking up one day with wings and the sole purpose of reproducing might seem like heaven to them.

If you really want a purpose, then imagine the benefit to the birds when all these lovely fat tasty buggers turn up just before winter migration begins …

Does anyone know why the STW powers decided to retire the old buy/sell forum… and replace with what we have now?

I seem to remember that it was in order to update an ageing system and to appease the many members who felt that it needed updating, as in the ability to sort posts and upload pics.

Trouble is, the update changed everything and seems to have broken the general feel and usability of the site which was what made it fun. The new version is way more functional, but in a very ‘soulless’ manner.

Also, they chose to cut out a seemingly significant portion of users with their Adblock blocker.

It would not be hard to replicate the old forum layout on the new system but with the additional features.

Direct from their website. Way tighter seal now.

Tried a prismo but it seemed to make a worse brew than my normal aeropress espresso method.

Also, just ordered a replacement seal from Aeropress and it is the new silicone version. Much better all round than the original rubber ones.

Depends where I am going in Manky-chester, but about thirty mins to Slattocks roundabout, hour and a quarter to Failsworth and about hour and a half to the centre.

Most days I come off early at Slattocks and cut through mid towards Crumpsall or Salford

I ride that exact section nearly everyday. 42c, 50psi or so Cracking route, No ‘dodgy’ bits near rochdale at all.

Only thing is, if you are going for speed, there are a couple of sections that are slightly faster on the road, as said above.

Also, Timber Bell. They are great for early warnings and less stops.

Just remember that the ultrasonic deterrents are possibly one of the most annoying things ever invented. Ballcocks are they ‘out of the human hearing range’.

They are like having a swarm of soprano mosquitoes stuck in your brain and can be heard from a  good few gardens away, too

Aeropress can make a stunning espresso with the right technique.  Took a good few goes to get the hang of it, though

Not tried the Fellow Prissmo espresso attachment yet, but that looks interesting, too.

a bit strange that the farmer chose a field traversed by one of the busiest paths in the area

It is not uncommon for all of a farmers grazing fields to include public RoW’s, which is why there is often conflict when asked to relocate.

Maybe that is the only suitable field for its occupants and if ordered by the HSE to remove the herd, would have to let them go as no alternative could be found?

going from the direct quote from the farmer

There seems to be a lot of unfounded comments, speculation and exaggeration from all sides in this.

Good few mountain and climbing ones. Tend to just start with one that looks good and let autoplay do its thing!

The HSE made a suggestion that the herd should be relocated after a single complaint. Unfortunately this seems to be a standard response whilst any investigation is planned (or not, as no assessment has yet been undertaken at the site).

There is no suggestion that there have been any other complaints, nor that the herd was acting unusually or aggressively.

Is there any chance that we could start using the PM system for awesome comments, personal sniping , epic comebacks and general insults, please?

No problem with discussion and argument, but far to many threads seem to descend into personal spats, discouraging further consideration of the original point.

Are we blaming Marcus for their demise then?

Please, lets not. OP made a complaint about a potential risk and the result was a little extreme, it seems.

until someone suggested maybe they should maybe thaw the frozen chickens out first…

I think it was Mythbusters that tested this and found that there was no difference between the impacts. Surprising, but the physics doesn’t lie!

Edit* They found it was plausible, dependent on speed. Under 120 mph the frozen will have greater penetration, above 120 and the difference is negligible.

Kind of agree on the timescale, but then, the example weapons at the beginning of the challenges are made within the time limit by the judges to ensure that it is possible. Dave Baker makes all of the historical weaponry, which always look amazing!

It does get a bit addictive. They did a sister program called Knife fight for a while, which was a home forged knife obstacle course of destruction, but it was all a bit American and shouty for me.

    That Fargo is nice indeed!

Not a bike, but personally, I would buy those White Rebas that have been in the ‘promoted’ section for god knows how long, just because I suspect that after all the promo fees the bloke is going to be onto a loss!

Just out of interest, as well as removing most ads, does a Premier membership do anything about the multitude of third party scripts, usage trackers and the like?
Pinkbike seem to get by with none.

Yes, to the fraction of a penny it will earn when batch sold to data analytical companies, most likely.

Like the woodturning bit, but the end result just looks wrong, like the proportions are off. The blade re-profiling and the curvy ‘aesthetic’ changes to the steel ruin it a bit for me.
