Really don’t tempt me! Always wanted to make a full size ballista :-)
I am planning on making a bigger version from laminated bamboo blinds next, I think. Or maybe a self loading Chinese crossbow type version..

Am I the first one to be bored enough, then? :D
Made it with huge hairclips for a bit more oomph and added a trigger as it is a bit hard to releast the string with a finger!

Shame I don’t have any kids to justify wasting my time with stuff like this, though..

I found a great way to decontaminate pads after a friend got oil all over my old hope fourpots. No way was I about to replace eight pairs of pads!
After a brainstorming session, we decided to encase the pads in soft modellers clay and bake at 200c for an hour or so, then tap the bulk of it off and brush clean.

The idea is that the oil would be drawn out into the clay during baking process.

    Worked a treat!

As for rotors, just clean well and wipe with alcohol.

Hmm, had this happen once with a chilli sauce. Turned out to be fermentation due to too low an acidity and/or salinity, I was told by a chef friend.

I was just crossing the m62 at the top of Rakewood as you were heading up the other side of the valley to the crossroads. Was very quiet today

Just been over there too, bregante. I am a certain shade of ‘Moorland brown’, right now!

I must have been a little behind you as I was following fresh tire tracks here and there. Were you in a yellow top, by any chance?

I use the Jtech ones as they were a bit cheaper. They are just fine

They will also whip up custom and offset ones to your requirements, too

Dunno, but it feels nice and gets rid of all that dead skin! Provided the terrain is not to sharp, that is..

Poor pic, but you will get the idea. Mine works better than my real one.

Pad spacer, cable tidy (the ‘s’ shaped thing), a brake bolt clip to stop bolts working loose and two black things..
    Might be spacers or shims?

Yes,mate. Tried a few now. Clarks were terrible. Might have been a bad batch, though. Nukeproof seemed ok, not much different from the original pads. Goodridge were hard to fit due to being a fraction wider than stock, Formula originals are fine but short lived and the last few sets have been from Uberbike. They seem to be a cheaper, a little longer lasting and much quieter than all of the previous brands.

Just what I noticed.. Other peoples opinion my differ.

Yep, they fit just fine. I put mine on a set of Formula the ones and as others have said, much quieter, much tougher.

Cheers, jairaj. Looks like I will be ordering from them as I have not had a reply from Merlin as yet.
I had read the same regarding the occasional build being a little loose from Superstar, but a quick re tension is not a problem.

Anyone heard anything about thespokedwheel.co.uk in Sheffield?
Looks to be a small outfit but seem offer a nice range of builds.

Just put a shimano rt76 on my formulas. Seems much tougher and less prone to warping than the old one.

Will be getting a nice new pair from uberbike soon. Also, their pads seem to out perform the standard formula ones, too.

Yep, look fine. I had some recons which lasted for years.
Really consider good condition secondhand, though, as you will get a substantial saving on stuff that is only a few months old/taken off a new bike. In fact, there seem to be lots of 100mm forks in the classifieds or on Pinkbike, such as http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1627931/

Depends what it needs, really! What would you like to be better?
I would look at secondhand forks, brakes(shimano are great value atm),
    or tyres.
Rear mech and shifters would also be an option, along with pedals too, if still using the plastic ones that came with it.
Other than that, it looks to be pretty well specced.

Tbh, the most noticeable thing would be forks. XCR’s are a little basic.

Contact on-one, i guess. The postal contract is between them and Yodel, so they normally just send you another item while they try and sort it.

Both early epicons and axons had the same crown and adjusters on them, it seems.
Looking at the age range, though, I think Rorschach gets the points!

    Suntour epicons, I think.
The air cap is a suntour one, anyway

Edit: Yep, Defo Epicons with manual lockout

If you take the bottom link (IMG) there is no need to add the square brackets bit.
Just paste the link into the post and away you go.

Tempted by a factory wheel, but have decided against it as I hate Hope rear hubs with a mighty vengeance and an XT or superstar evo build with the same rim is about £125.
£200+ is simply not an option for me at the moment.

No local LBS that I would trust to do a wheel build properly, unfortunately. :(

A cone shattered in my old xt, leaving nasty pitting and a slightly off centre cup. Might just get a new axle and bearings and have a very grumbley wheel for a bit!

Are crc still doing builds? I looked and could only see an option for a hope pro 2 build, no others :? Might have not looked hard enough, though.

As above, though. Merlin have always built great wheels. Would like to use them again, really.

Already sent an email this morning, no reply as yet. I mean, I just killed my rear wheel last night and need to get a new one ordered A.S.A.P.

Anyone got any alternative recommendations as I have always used Merlin? Are superstar any good? Kinda like the look of the switch evo on 521’s

Edit: I did think about the possibility that they were short on staff, but you would think that they would put info like that up on the page.

Picked up a set of new but secondhand 2014 revelations a couple of weeks ago for just under 300, so there are plenty of options out there.

I would rather take the rebas at a bargain price than pay for a new set of sektors, provided there were no stanchion scratches.

“No really, it goes up to eleven, so…. Elevens better, right?”

I really don’t know why VLC did it like that.
I mean, the old version went up to 400%, but the new one only goes up to 200% and is louder than it was at 400%…
Why not just call the highest volume 100% and be done with it (unless it actually is a Spinal Tap reference by the programmers)?

I use free the version of DFX as mine is a bit weedy in the sound department.
Never had it change the sound for me, though. Works fine.

Also, maybe try VLC as your media player as it allows you to put the volume up beyond the normal ‘100%’

No idea, mate. Just some random ebayer.
The second one from a different store is a real one (or at least a clone with HP stickers) It seems to be fine, so far. Think the better one was about £35 or so.

Replaced my dm3 battery with a cheap one. It lasted 6 months then exploded. Literally.
Could have been a bad one, though. These things happen.

Replaced that with a different one which is still going after 18 months.
